"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

Gray’s identity now out in the open, there was very little he could do. The Vice Admiral’s expression indicated that he recognized the name, and surely he wouldn’t keep mum of such big news. However, Gray did not wish to create an unnecessary conflict. His survival’s revelation was an inevitable eventuality. His only regret was that he couldn’t complete his quest before his secret was let out. The quest that he had spent the past three years after…

Meanwhile, the white-haired maiden who was once a rowdy and popular cabin girl among the Soaring Pirates, before she was even ten years old, was now running at him with wavering emotions. As she slammed against him with open arms, Gray’s guard let up, slightly surprised to not see a violent reaction. As she wrapped her arms around his waist, his tattered cloak scrunching within her arms, his gaze lost its intensity. Warm memories of the past, and the sweet smell of the sea that he sailed with his beloved nakama somehow reinvoked themselves within his senses. His eye started to water, his right hand now placed on Sora’s head, while his robotic hand patted her back as she complained. Why did they leave her alone? Why didn’t he tell her he was alive? The questions had answers, but Gray couldn’t find the strength to answer them.

But, Gray regained his composure quickly, remembering the presence of the Vice Admiral, who still seemed shell-shocked from the sudden change in atmosphere and the world-shaking revelation.

Gray suddenly grasped Sora with his right arm around her waist, and slung her over his right shoulder. Before the Vice Admiral could have the chance to react, Gray was already dashing through the streets with the white-haired maiden in tow. In only but a few seconds, they were on an abandoned cliff facing the sea, with a forest behind them. He then sighed and placed Sora back on the ground, who may very well have been dizzied by the uncomfortable ride and the blinding speed at which they traveled.

He dusted off his pants and cloak while staring out at the waves, and then turned to Sora to speak with a grim expression and a solemn voice. ”There is a reason why I haven’t been looking for you, Sora. The reason is simple. Because it wasn’t your turn yet.”

The girl continued to sob this time quietly as the man took her to the cliff. She didn't care where he took her, as long as he was in her life once more. She missed him greatly, and it could tell on her face. It was puffy and red, her eyes were in the same state. It was if she hadn't cried in years, which she hadn't. She had stopped crying when she was four, and had cried for her nakama once. This was literally the second time since she has cried in over ten years. Sniffling slightly, the girl listened to the man in front of her. She wondered why he abandoned her, why he said it wasn't her turn yet.

"What isn't my turn, yet? Why wouldn't it be my turn yet?" She had a lot of questions, and wanted answers to all of them. She had grown strong since he had disappeared, due to her having to live alone and couldn't rely on other people. She wanted to tell him what she's been doing for the past four years, that she was trying to live up to his legacy, that she was going to reveal herself as his daughter when she was twenty and continue his work, but this time she would destroy the Marines first instead of being called into a war during their conquering.

She wanted to do so much in his memory, and walk in his footsteps. She wanted to be his real biological daughter instead of thinking of him as her father, which he was. "Why couldn't you send a message saying you were alive, and explain why you couldn't come find me. I've been searching for the past four years ever since news of your death reached my ears. I've been searching for your Devil Fruit, and continue your legacy…. I even took up your last name in secret, so I could reveal it when the time was right to the world…" She said to the man in front of her, with her head lowered. She should've known that he would live, despite being tossed into the sea by the marines.

The girl should have known that the Marines were just blowing out hot air. That they weren't telling the truth about them killing him like all the others. She sniffled slightly as the tears and sobs stopped. She didn't want to look like a little crybaby in front of one of the only men she respected. She respected all of the other members of the crew, and even saw them as parents, but he shined even brighter than all of the others in her eyes. He was the one that took her in when no one wanted her, he taught her how to use haki to defend herself. Gray did so much for her, and she wanted to repay him for everything even if he were dead.

"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

Gray had known all too well how attached the young and impressionable Sora had become with the Soaring Pirates. She was as much a member of their crew as he was. Leaving her behind had left a bitter taste in his mouth. But, it was not something he regretted, as his fears had all come true. Had he not left her behind, she may very well have died like a dog along with all the people she had grown to care about.

Sora was not the only child they’d left behind. There were five other kids, a few of them some years older than Sora, who had apprenticed on their ship, The Adventia. All of these six children, they’d left behind as close to their home islands as they could. Sora was the first one they had parted with, and so it was near certain that she had assumed that she was the only one that had been left behind. It was small wonder then, that she was so bitter of that fact.

Knowing this, Gray maintained a stoic face, despite his wavering eyes, and continued to expand on his earlier answer after Sora had finished reasoning with him. "Regulus, Borishima, Tolliver, Runcella, Leofish, Aesha, Marco..” He coughed incoherently, interrupting the chanting of his list. ”All of the Soaring Pirates besides the six kids aboard The Adventia… They are all dead.” A tear runs down from the corner of his left eye as both his hands grasp Sora’s shoulders firmly, his eyes unable to meet hers out of shame or guilt.

”Four hundred and eighty two members of the Soaring Pirates died on that day, four years ago. And I’d led them to their deaths. The only ones that had survived were the ones that I’d left behind. I wasn’t ready to face you, Sora-chan. Not until I had made amends… reparations… paid my dues, or at the very least, my respects.” He sighed, and his voice gained its depth again, no longer wavering.

”For the past four years, I’ve journeyed across the seven seas. One by one, I’ve found the relatives or loved ones, or even someone who at least knew, one of our late nakama. Four hundred and sixty nine, that’s how many of our nakama’s homelands I’ve visited so far to tell their stories, to leave behind something of them that might continue their legacy. You were the first nakama I lost Sora-chan, and that’s why your turn hadn’t come. Because meeting you was to be the end of my pilgrimage.” He looked at her proudly for a moment, before his expression turned mournful once again. ”You were my final destination.”

Sora listened to the man that talked in front of him, she got his reasons for staying away for as long as he did, though why couldn't he visit her first and take her with him, with the other kids. Be like the way they use to be, or at the very least help the children grow stronger so they wouldn't die in this world. She didn't know what happened to the other children, she had not heard from them, though she was constantly moving around almost randomly in her search for the Pressure Pressure fruit. The girl did not want to meet the others, they honestly didn't interest her in the least anymore.

Sora wanted a new family, a new nakama to replace the old one. She felt the breeze start up. It felt good, to cool herself off for a bit. The air was salty from the ocean, it was how she liked it. The girl loved the fresh sea air, it was part of the reason why she had a basic raft so a ship did not filter out any of the lovely scent that came from the air around her. The white haired girl thought for a couple minutes. She didn't know what she was going to do now that she knew that he was alive and well. Sora didn't know what she wanted now that she knew that he was alive and well.

There however was one thing she wanted to do, it was spar with him. The last time she did was a month before the war that ended the lives of most of her family. She wanted to know how far she's progressed since the last time she had fought with him. Since then, she had given up using a knife to fight, and had started to use her own version of melee combat. It was partly due to her gaining a devil fruit, but it was worth giving up the knife. She could seriously surprise him with how much she's grown, and her devil fruit powers.

"Gray, can we spar? I want to see how much, I've grown these past four years. I know I will more than likely lose, but I want to see how far I've gone on my own journey," she said. Gone was the little girl that was crying for her father to hold her, gone was the little girl that was bitter about her entire family going off and dying without her. Gone was the girl that wanted to lash out at the world, in her place came a warrior that wanted nothing more than to fight. Even though she still wanted to topple the government, she wanted to do so with a crew of her own making.

The girl wanted to go to war with a family of her own making, she wanted to do the one thing that Gray had never done. She was going to fight Marineford head on and win. Her resolve was ironclad about her new goals. Sora no longer wanted to fight the world government while wanting to die in combat, no… Now she wanted to fight the world government and win. She wanted to win to avenge her family, and to prove to the world that anyone can rise above the titans in the world and indeed win against them if they put all of their willpower into it.

"MY APOLOGIES, SORA.”
”I am very sorry to have kept you waiting. Since my techniques are now finished, along with everything else for my character, I should now be back in full-form, replying as soon as possible to your posts.”

Gray attempted to quickly reel back his slipping emotions, never having been one to partake in overly sentimental reunions. However, the relief he felt from seeing one of his family alive was too deep for him to hide. Nonetheless, he suppressed his sentimentality, and regained his former composure.

On closer inspection, Sora had not changed at all since their separation. Aside from the scar across her eye, she looked almost exactly the same to him. And this fact concerned Gray, as he would have wished for her to grow taller and healthier. He voiced this concern when Sora challenged him to a friendly duel, seemingly having gotten over her shock from learning of his survival. ”Ehh? You want me to fight you when even the wind could blow you away? Have you even been eating? You have barely grown in the last five years. And what kind of trouble have you gotten yourself into to earn yourself that scar, Sora Starks?”

In that moment, something seemed to click inside Gray’s mind. As if a missing piece of puzzle had just been added, and the picture of that jigsaw had completely changed. His jaw dropped again, just as it did when Sora barged into the Singing Skeleton earlier. His face flushed and his forehead wrinkled, he shouted in astonishment, ”Huuuuuuuuuuhhhh?! Did you just say you took up my last name?!” He slapped his forehead and shook his head, a sympathetic smile leaking from the corner of his lips. ”You foolish little girl. Do you not know what lengths the Navy will go to look for you if they find out your connection to me?”

The smile grew wider on his face as he remembered that time, years ago, when he had decided to name his crew after Marsh’s, revealing his connection to the dead Pirate King. Seeing a similar resolve in Sora’s eyes was heart-warming in a way. But, that also meant that he knew the dangers that came with such bold claims all too well. He placed a fatherly hand on Sora's head, if she allowed him to, and chuckled. ”Gahaha. You are as fierce as I remember. I’m glad to see that nothing has broken your spirit yet. I’m sure you’ve come a long way from the days that you used to run around the deck of The Adventia. And I’m sure you have lots of stories of your own to tell me.” His gaze turned sharp, suddenly, as if piercing right through Sora. He stepped back a few paces, before smiling confidently.

”Come then, Sora Starks. Show me how you’re going to beat the world.” He stood firmly upon the craggy terrain, his feet locked with a combative distance between them. But, his back remained relaxed and unperturbed, ready to react to Sora’s first move, if she were still in a fighty mood.

Sora smirked at him while he still hadn't realized that she had taken up his last name. It was a fun game, revealing something shocking while waiting for him to finally realize that she had done so like that. She had been counting the seconds until he said her full name, and at the end of his reprimand of her, she said, "I did say in secret. The World Idiots do not know my connection to you, nor do they know of me being a former Soaring Pirate. I've been waiting to reveal that information, waiting until I'm strong enough to defend myself from anything under a full Admiral. Then by that time, I was planning on having a nakama that could help in taking one of them down."

The girl wasn't stupid as to say what her full name was, she was pretty smart and had been planning most of her moves ahead of time. "Though, I suppose they will realize that I was a Soaring Pirate after that vice admiral reports in on seeing a Supernova attacking you, and you knowing said supernova," she said while planning on showing him her wanted poster after the friendly duel.

She shrugged slightly, it was a little ahead of schedule for her tastes, but it didn't really matter to the girl in the long run. Sora was planning on revealing the information in a few months time anyways, and didn't care a wick about revealing said information. After that she listened closely to what he was saying next. She watched his movements while keeping ready for him. She wondered if he was wondering if she still used knives like she did on the Adventia.

Her style evolved since then, she discontinued the use of knives when she had eaten her fruit. She couldn't use the knives in conjunction with her fruit and so taught herself an improvised form of melee combat that centered around her explosive paramecia. The girl smirked while waiting until he said show him how she was planning on beating the world.

In that instant, she ran towards him. She usually kept her knives in her sleeves making people think that she was simply going to use her body. In the last instant, she would pull them out and slice into the opponent. But that was no longer her style of combat, the style that he was use to from her. Sora hoped that he would be completely surprised at her not taking out the knives in the last instant, helping her to attack him in his surprise. She had gotten faster, stronger, and more durable since her days on the Adventia. The girl did not slack off in her training, not one bit and was at the very least three times as strong as she was on the Adventia.

While she ran at him, she had started to prep one of her techniques. In mid-run Sora launched her right index finger into her right nostril and dug in deeply. The girl dug in for a good booger, slowly the girl pulled it out. It was a huge wad, and it was slightly bloody from the picking. Not that the girl cared in the least about that. She had everything that she needed to perform her doubled petard booger blast.

When the girl got within five meters of the man, she aimed the booger directly at him and said, "Doubled Petard Booger Blast." Flicking it with all of her force towards the man, she continued to run at him. Due to the extra force behind the explosive and bloody booger, it flew faster than what the girl could run. But that wasn't her main attack, no… She was planning on using that as a way to make cover for her to unleash her real attack. The booger was aimed at the man's feet! More specifically around a tenth of a meter in front of the man. The booger would land and explode in front of the man. Whether or not the man would be caught up in the explosion, the girl didn't know.

But what she did know, was that the bomb would throw up a bunch of dust to cover what she was really planning on doing, she was planning on using the dust to jump above him and attempt to kick his face in with a Dynamite Kick. Entering the dust that was created by the booger bomb, she launched herself above the man, and prepared her main attack. Upon falling towards the man, Sora drew back her right leg.

The muscles were prepared to send her foot into the man's face. Finally when the proper amount of strength was saved up for the girl, she launched her leg and foot forward towards the man'd face. While it flew, Sora prepared the explosive kick to explode on contact.

While the kick flew towards the man's face that she was attempting to kick, the girl had primed the explosive-laced kick and declared, "Dynamite Kick." She had gone too far to stop not, the girl wanted to test her mettle against Gray, the strongest man in the world. What she didn't realize that he wasn't the strongest man in the world. That title went to one of the current Yonkou, but she didn't know that. She wanted to see how strong she was, compared to Gray.

"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

When Sora referred to herself as a “Supernova”, Gray’s eyes shot up with mild surprise. ”Oooooh! You must have a nice bounty on your head then. I’m surprised I haven’t seen your wanted poster flying around yet.” Gray was genuinely curious about the actions that Sora had undertaken to earn herself a fat enough bounty to be labeled a supernova. It brought back early memories of him earning his first bounty, spreading his name through the world.

As Gray prepared for Sora’s first attack, he recalled Sora’s fighting style when she was still part of the Soaring Pirates. He remembered her hiding knives up her sleeves, fighting rather skillfully with them for a ten year old. But, when she shoved her index finger into her nose and picked out a big, bloody booger, his eyes widened. ”Oi, Sora-chan! Young girls shouldn’t pick their noses like that!” He did not truly mean that, as even he found it secretly hilarious. But, the father in him instinctively reacted to teach her manners.

However, his words seemed to have no effect, as she nonchalantly tossed the booger towards him. Not wanting the nasty booger anywhere near him, he held out his right hand in front of him, with his fist closed tightly. In this moment, he noticed that Sora had launched herself towards him also, following the booger. Unsure of how she fought now, Gray did not risk underestimating her. As soon as the booger and her were both less than five meters from him, he opened his fist with enough force to create a sonic boom. The deafening sound and a powerful shockwave would launch themselves from Gray's fist, towards the flying booger and the attack-ready Sora, sending them flying over fifty meters back while dealing medium damage, if it were to hit her fully.

[Go home, frog in the well]

He grit his teeth after releasing this attack, not meaning to launch it quite so powerfully. But, he had, and he could only hope that Sora had now become as resilient as he had expected. On second thought, however, he realized that this level of attack was a good test for her. If she were to find herself a family of her own and defend it, she would need to learn to endure such pain, to bear through it, broken bones, bleeding cuts and all. If she was successfully thrown back by the attack, he would call out to her from the distance, ”One thing you ought to remember, Sora-chan, is that your own strength isn’t everything. If you wish to have nakama of your own, you must one day also have to rely on them. And if you aren’t strong enough as a collective, then it doesn't matter how strong you are as individuals; you will lose each other.” He would then sigh, pointing towards himself. ”Just look at what happened to me.”

As Sora rushed the man that partially raised her, she felt pressure build up and launch her away from him. The force of the pressure sent her over the cliff and towards the ocean below, thinking rapidly the girl decided to test out an idea that she had. Sora sorely hoped that it would work or she'd be dead. Killed by Gray's overpowered ass, it was something the girl wanted to avoid. Bracing herself, and aiming herself at one of the rocks that were perched just above the water, the girl landed on the rock in a crouch before jumping into the air while making an explosion at her feet to propel herself higher. In that single leap, the girl was about to cover 20 meters before starting to fall.

With another burst at her feet she was propelled higher and higher until she got to the top of the cliff which was around a hundred meters high. Panting while clutching her legs, the girl knew that she had damaged herself by doing something that she had never done before. But it was a good first attempt to do what she had done. She hoped to get it to be faster and feel almost like she's teleporting from the ground to mid air.

But the girl knew she was spent, from the damage of Gray's attack to the damage from her test to save her own life. Sora knew without a doubt if she were to continue to fight as she was, she'd no doubt lose anyways. She had a good feel of her own power compared to Gray's now. She was still too weak to do anything to the man. She vowed right then and there never to lose again, until she had beat the man standing in front of her.

(OOC: My reason for Explosive Flight damaging her is due to the fact that she has never used it before, that it was only something that she knew she might be able to do but didn't test it out until now. Due to her thinking it might not work. Every time you use a brand new technique without testing it out beforehand there are always some form of drawback, like Kakashi, the Chidori, and Tunnel Vision. The damage that she suffered due to using a untested technique is this technique's Tunnel Vision.)

"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

”Oh crap! Sora-chan!!” Gray leaps forward to the edge of the cliff as the uncontrolled force of his previous attack launches the young girl off the cliff and towards the violent waves of the sea. But, as he peeks over the edge, his eyes widen, and an impressed smile sits upon his lips. He had wondered what sort of abilities Sora had gained after the Soaring Pirates had left her behind. And from what he could tell, she could create explosions somehow, which he had noticed earlier when the flying booger had blown up after being deflected into the distance.

But, the manner in which she stumbled as she propelled herself with the explosions, suggested that she did not yet have full control over her ability. Slightly concerned for her well-being from the use of the explosions, he approached her as she landed clumsily within the safety of land. He patted her back as she panted, before ruffling her hair playfully, and smiling proudly. ”You’ve come very far from when you used to run at me with knives in hand, Sora-chan. I'm impressed by how you managed to save yourself from falling into the sea. I thought I would have to jump in after you.”

He noticed how she was no longer tense, suggesting the end of their combat session. She had grown far stronger than most her age. But, the rate at which she was progressing also clouded his mind with certain concerns. Doubtlessly, he wanted her to grow strong, but he was more worried about her maturing in the right way, not having her psyche skewed by the endless terrors that awaited her across the seas. He wished to see appreciation and care for the world in her eyes, rather than despair and hatred. But, knowing the injustices that were done to her at such a young age, he imagined that to be only a distant possibility.

At the same time, he knew a good example of someone who had come to see the world in a positive light, despite being tormented by society as a child. He recalled his days in the wintry bowels of Jotunn, when he was kicked out of his village at the age of four, labeled as a “monster”. But, his time with Marsh, the late Pirate King, had changed his perspective of the world. He had come to accept the flaws of humans, and had embraced them as inevitable. And when he had brought Sora aboard The Adventia so many years ago, he had hoped to be to her, what Marsh had been to him. He had succeeded at least somewhat in that regard, as he could see in Sora’s earlier embrace, that she still saw him as a father figure. But, he did not know if her time with the Soaring Pirates, despite how it ended, had made her more optimistic and respectful of life, no matter how flawed it might have been.

He shelved these concerns, however, not wanting to bog their reunion down with impertinent lectures. He looked towards her and tilted his head curiously. ”So, tell me about these flashy explosions. What kind of Devil Fruit did you eat?” He had assumed the abilities Sora had were bestowed by a Devil Fruit, as he did not see her wear technologically advanced shoes that could have caused those explosions under her feet.
