Few people were ever able to actually tighten a bond with her. But once she calls you a friend her loyalty knows no limit

Howai was born in Cocoyasi Village and her mother already died in childbirth. Her father on the other hand left her when she was 15 to become a pirate but died shortly after in the conqueror's war. Luckily she had one remaining friend in her hometown, who just happend to also be an orphan. Just on their own they had to learn how to survive. Pickpocketing and lying was not the easy but most efficient way to get by. 3 years living like this didn't just improve their skills but also the ability to judge people by behavior and looks. Making it even possible to foresee some peoples actions. Slowly her friend became sick of their lifestyle as he turned 20. He apologized for leaving her alone all by herself and left to become a pirat, something he know she would never be capable of.
One day she broke into a garden and found this special looking fruit on the ground near an appletree and ate it. It turned out to be a devil fruit and suddenly she was able to sprout multiple body parts on any solid surface including the her own body. This new earned ability made pickpocketing a lot more convenient.
At the age of 20 the New Revolutionary Army stopped in her village for some days to store up again. One commander in particular was looking like an easy, but valuable target for her. Although her actions were well planed and performed she misscalculated his skills and got cought.
Impressed by her skills he offered her a job, food and supply for everthing she needs. That was an offer she was just not able to decline.
