"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

"And then without any warning, she just kicked him in the balls! Gahahahahaha!"
"Chaaaahohohoho!" The fat man slapped the table repeatedly while his upper body curled up against its edge, his hand clutching at his chest to control his laughter. His body convulsed as he laughed, as if he were having a seizure, causing some of the less festive guests of the establishment to shake their heads and frown.

This was Mock Town, the port city of Jaya, and one of the more lawless civilized islands of Grand Line. This humor-filled ruckus was pouring into the streets from within the walls of one of the most popular taverns of Mock Town; "The Singing Skeleton", it was named, for who knows what reason. The owner of this establishment, the fat man slamming away at his own property, was short and grey-haired. His nose was curved, almost like a parrot's and his features were withered. Yet, the man seemed full of energy and enthusiasm, as evident from his laughing fit.

The man sharing in this hilarity was rather tall and muscular, requiring one of the bigger chairs of the structure. With a tattered black cloak draped over his shoulders and no fabric on his torso besides the bandages wrapped around his upper waist, one could almost mistake him for a homeless man if it were not for his unusually advanced robotic arm and the metal pauldrons stitched to the shoulders of his cloak. A trimming of his scruffy stubble was long overdue, and his shaggy red-brown hair did not help his image either. The man wore baggy pants and long grey boots which nearly covered the entirety of his shins and calves.

His robotic arm winced and squeaked silently within the guffawing of the two characters, barely announcing its existence. The laughter of the two men stood out within the confines of the building, but they were not the only ones entertained. They were joined by the chuckles of men sitting around them, their center table surrounded by about half-a-dozen men listening in.

"What'd you end up doing with her?" The fat man asked curiously. The man-in-black replied with an eyebrow raised, "What do you mean what did we do with her? We laughed about it, and gave her a pat on the back for having more balls than the guy she kicked." The response encouraged the fat man's guffawing, "Chaaaahohohoho! Chaaahohoho! Stop--Stop it!" Some of the disapproving guests continued to shake their heads, clearly irritated by the man's loudness. However, the discontent went completely unnoticed by the audience of the man-in-black.

The light through the windows was donning an evening hue, and the wind had picked up in the past hour, slowly blowing clouds to form a partially overcast sky. The street seemed abandoned in comparison to the indoors of The Singing Skeleton, which was jam-packed with its evening clientele.

The group around the storyteller continued to cause a commotion, the sounds filling the nearby streets with echoes of laughter.

Spoiler:

Barely any clouds in the sky this evening, Mock Town was filled with many different people. Some pretty normal, while others quite...odd. Families were out enjoying themselves, friends were catching up with each other, couples hand in hand, and children playing among each other. One would be amazed that such a town with no form of law backing it up would be this tamed. Among the people out was a white, and spiky haired man who looked to be younger than he actually was. His attire consisted of a black unbuttoned coat with a turquoise short-sleeved shirt, the same color as his eyes, and a steel chestplate perfectly hidden underneath. A scarf, white as snow rested around his neck as khaki pants covered his legs assisted by black sneakers while his sheathed katana was visibly attached to his back. Mikado Law, a fairly new Vice Admiral within the Marine ranks was his name.

The off duty marine looked from left to right with a pretty calm expression as his hands were neatly tucked into his pants pockets. Picking this place a temporary vacation spot seemed like a good idea at first, but the number of people was kind of getting to him. He did have to admit though that the cheerful people brought life, positive life to this town. As he walked past some people, Mikado was welcomed by greetings in which he responded in simple hellos. Small talk is something that he didn't want to do mostly because of how awkward it just feels to him. Mikado walked by one of the town's local taverns almost about to pass it completely before stopping as he heard laughter coming from the establishment. Amazingly, it sounded louder in there compared to the entire town, peeking the green eyed man's attention. Mikado slowly opened the door leading into the tavern which was only big enough for one person at a time, and peeked in. The first thing that caught his attention was the jolly crowd that were further in laughing up a storm. Especially the chubby fellow.

Mikado then looked around to see some of the others shaking their heads at the sight, mostly thinking what Mikado was thinking of right about now. Despite the noise, Mikado decided to stay here for a bit, perhaps getting something to drink before heading off. He quickly took a look around the place, specifically away from the noisy people for a seat, but unfortunately they were full. His eyes then went back to the noisy crowd where he noticed a free seat next to a red haired gentleman. "Oi..." Mikado softly said before sighing as he made his way towards that seat, noticing from the side of his eyes that people were looking at him whispering among each other. In his mind they must've been talking about how out of place he looked here, and...how young he looked. He wasn't wrong, but some were also talking about how he looks familiar, that they must've seen or heard of him before, but couldn't put their fingers on it.

As soon as he made it to the noisy group, Mikado faced the red haired male before clearing his throat in hopes of getting his attention. If successful, Mikado would follow up by asking, "Is this seat taken?" pointing at the empty seat, but looking away from them awkwardly. If he didn't get his attention, he would just stand there looking at the noisy bunch with a bit of an annoyed expression on his face.

Sora walked through the streets of Mock Town, while thinking about the leads she had on the Pressure Pressure fruit. That was one of her main goals of her constant travels throughout the world, she just could not find the fruit anywhere. It was like her old captain and father was still alive. There weren't any rumors about someone having the same powers as him, she sighed while taking out a small pouch with her beli in it. She had 50 grand in the pouch. Enough for her to have a good meal at the best tavern within the township. She even had enough for a couple bottles of sake from west blue. It was something that she remembered that the man that she thought as a father use to drink.

The girl had acquired a great liking to the sake, it was one of her favorite drinks. She however did not drink enough to get drunk, knowing that she might not be able to control herself and start a massive brawl throughout the town. It had happened before, and it was partly how she gained her bounty. Who knew starting a town-wide brawl after throwing a Captain of the Marines at a group of pirates amounted to over a million bounty gain? She entered the Singing Skeleton, and looked throughout the tavern.

She had a habit of looking at her surroundings before entering an establishment, due to her bounty. There were a lot of bounty hunters in the past that came after her due to it. There were also a lot of trouble makers that wanted to start stuff with a young looking girl with that high of a bounty. As the girl scanned the tavern, she saw a short white haired boy at the bar. She also saw someone that made her blood run cold, and made her see red.

It was the man that she had thought of as a father, it was the man that took her in when no one wanted her. It was Gray Starks, her old captain. He looked nearly the same as the last time she saw him, but with a ratty cloak, and mechanical limbs.

Clenching her fist, the girl charged the man. "STARKS HOW DARE YOU NOT TRY AND GET IN TOUCH WITH ME!!!!!!!!!" She had shouted with all of her might, and she did not care if anyone knew his name. She was pissed off because he made her think he was dead. She was going to make him suffer for what he did to her. She was planning on punching him in the testicles, while using her powers to cause even more damage to them by making her fist explode. 'Nut Cracker Grenade,' she thought while launching a punch towards the man's groin area.

"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

The creek of the door went entirely unnoticed by the rowdy crowd in the center, as the silver-haired, short young man walked into the tavern. The man-in-black remained focused on entertaining his guests, however, his eyes flickered towards the entrant, detecting his strong presence, despite his child-like appearance. However, he quickly distracted himself by giving his cheery audience his full attention.

He cracked open another joke from his arsenal, which was already running dry, and the joke fizzled away, as his audience’s attention started to divert towards the newcomer. The silver-haired fellow was approaching them, his intentions unclear. However, the man-in-black detected no hostility from him. As he approached, the owner of the bar turned towards the young man and smiled a big business-like smile. ”Welcome, welcome, Silver-kun.. Welcome to the Singing Skeleton!” The young man’s intention became clear from his following words, as he requested the only empty seat within their vicinity.

The sudden murmurings that were initiated by the young man’s entrance piqued the man-in-black’s ears. ”Vice---New---So young---Navy”, the words were easy enough to put together based on the strong aura that was oozing out of the silver-haired man. His stature was no disguise, as the man-in-black could recall many individuals of small stature reigning havoc over the New World. There was little doubt in his mind that the young man was a high-ranking officer in the Navy. And from what he had picked up from the whispers, he was most likely a Vice Admiral.

He quickly regained his manners and smiled towards the new guest, hiding any signs of having detected his strength. ”Of course, An-chan. Please excuse our ruckus. Feel free to have a seat and share our drink! Martin-san, get this young man a drink on me!” He proceeded to pull the chair up, leaving space between the table and the seat, offering it to the Marine if he would accept it.

But, just as Martin, the bar owner, got up to oblige the man-in-black’s request, regardless of whether the young man accepted the offer or not, a more flashier entrance was made.

A brief moment before the entrance, the man-in-black’s senses tingled familiarly. He somehow recognized this presence, but couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Just then, a young girl entered the bar uproariously. A white-haired maiden, her hair giving off an orange hue from the setting sun, stepped in, looking around. The face… the hair… the attitude. Something was too familiar about it. The gash bridging over her eye and running down her cheek was the only thing unfamiliar about her. After the briefest moment of assessment, just when the girl’s eyes met his, it clicked. His jaw dropped and his eyes opened wide.

”Eh-Eh-Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh??!?! Soooraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-chaaaan?!?!” His shocked reaction was mirrored by her, only with a violent distortion. But, in her aggravated surprise, she’d let slip his name. Whether it was intentional or not, a sudden irked expression flashed across the man-in-black’s face, as he grit his teeth. Before anyone could notice the information that she had let slide, he simply had to control the situation. While she charged at him, before she even made it half-way across the room, he had already released it.

A burst of intimidation so powerful even the Yonkou would break out in a cold sweat. At least that’s how his late First Mate used to describe it. This aura knocked out about everyone in the room, minus Sora, the silver-haired young man (who was at least strong enough to weather the intimidation without completely losing his faculties), and the owner of the bar, Martin.

Even if Sora were to continue running across the room with her hostile intent, he quickly stood up and out of his chair, his right arm ready to defend anything that she were to throw at him. If the Vice Admiral was still within his proximity, his towering figure remained stoic, adding to the effect of his intimidation.

Meanwhile, he had not noticed that there was a pirate captain in one of the corners who had just barely stayed conscious after that burst of intimidation. He panickedly looked around at his unconscious crewmates and spoke with a stumbling voice. ”Ehhhh?!?! Ha-ha-haoshoku haki?! Aaand did you say Starks?! I thought he looked familiar… Could he be… one of the Yonkou who died in the Marineford War four years ago--- The Conqueror, Gray Starks?!?!!!!”

"Thank you very much." the Vice Admiral said with a bow towards the owner before raising an eyebrow at being called, "Silver-kun." First he has ever been called that, but he didn't really care for it. Mikado's ears would then pick up the same murmuring that the metal armed stranger heard. It seems word gets out pretty fast which could mean bad news if any marine loathing pirates, or even bounty hunters were to show up, but more importantly it would mean that this poor silver haired male's vacation would come to an early end. His attention then went back to the metal armed guy who was very welcoming. His cheery expression although loud, was somewhat interesting. It even brought a small sense of nostalgia towards the Vice Admiral, reminding him of an old friend of his. The moment this man said, "An-chan" however caused Mikado to briefly shut his eyes, gritting his teeth some, but would most likely go unnoticed due to the noise before taking a deep breathe, bowing this time towards the man who agreed to share his drinks with him.

"Thank you."

As Mikado sat down, he glanced to his left where another person was sitting by him with a nervous expression on his face while another one by that guy smiled forcefully. Knowing very well why they were looking at him like that, Mikado looked down at the table in front of him as he's gotten all to familiar with these reactions. He was curious though. If they knew about his rank, then could they know about how he got it? Simply did what his adopted father did in the past, liberated slaves, and put a supposed end to the syndicate who ran these slaves, The Mad Titans (T.M.T). Unlike his adopted father however, Mikado swooped in, literally, and handled this situation on his own which got him the rank. Mikado may turn a blind eye towards certain pirates, and criminals from time to time, but what he finds truly unacceptable due to personal experience, were slavers.

Mikado then glanced at the metal armed fellow who was giving off not only an annoyingly cheerful aura, but a powerful one as well, dwarfing the Vice Admiral's. Mikado sensed this the moment he walked in, perhaps that was part of the reason he even walked in here despite his distaste for...noise. To top it all off, the man looked vaguely familiar, swearing that he saw him before. But just before he could put his finger on it, another strong aura, not on the level of the older man's appeared followed by....yelling. An annoyed expression, almost as if he wanted to face palm himself appeared on Mikado's face as he turned around to see a young lady he easily recognized. Wanted posters of this girl filled many marine bases, and other places among others. The infamous "Sky Bomber" Sora. "Here I thought I could enjoy some peace, and qu-" he mumbled with a pause before realizing how stupid that sounded. He was in a freaking Tavern that could be heard miles away. Thinking that his vacation was pretty much over as he predicted earlier, Mikado quickly gripped the hilt of his sheathed katana on his back before exhaling, his breathe visible as if he were in the cold despite it being pretty warm in here.

Before doing anything, Mikado blinked his eyes a few as the red haired guy uttered the girl's name in a sense of familiarity which then reminded the marine what she yelled a bit earlier. "Starks?" he mumbled softly to himself. Could he be....

Just before he could think about it more, the entire tavern was hit with a burst of aura that knocked everyone save for Mikado, the owner, Sora, and the red haired guy which this power originated from. Chills ran down Mikado's spine, something that normally doesn't happen to him due to his abilities. His face remained stern, but deep down he was surprised about this....Haoshoku haki. He was completely sure that was what this man used, and confirming it was another guy who seemed to have remained conscious through this while also blabbering out the red head's possible almost certain identity. A man of legend who thought to have died.

The Conqueror....

[OOC Note: Mikado should not know about Sora's last name. She secretly took it up, so only her really close friends would even know about it.]

Sora felt the wave of energy hit her out of nowhere, she halted in her steps and felt that the man that she was about to neuter with an explosion was giving off an aura of power and intimidation. That was not the man that she spent four years with and saw as her adoptive father. This was a man that was a warrior, uncaring about anything or anyone. This was a man that would put her down if she did not stop her attack. Despite her wishes and control over her body, cold sweat flowed from her pores, she slightly shook in fear.

The girl knew despite their past together he would not harbor an attack on him with impunity. She felt like the small scared little girl that she was all those years ago on the streets. Tears welled up in her eyes, she felt horrible about attempting to attack the man that she saw as a father when she first met him after four years of being alone with no one but a single crew that went into the New World part of the grand line.

They did not last very long, it was also how she gained her devil fruit powers and around half of her total bounty. Gray made her feel small, he made her feel all the emotions that she felt when she heard that her nakama, her first real family died while trying to rescue the wife of the pirate king. She felt confusion, she felt scared, she felt that she was going to die from the pit in her chest that could not be filled by anything. It wasn't fair, she was starting to get over her feelings of her family dying, and here was the main reason why she was feeling those feelings for such a long time.

Without hesitation, she did what her instincts told her to do. She ran at the man in front of her, despite the fact that she wanted to hate him, despite the fact that she wanted to loathe his very existence. She just wanted comfort from one of the only people that could or would give it to her. She kept most of her feelings about the matter of the Soaring Pirates' forceful disbandment by the Marines.

The girl would attempt to crash into the man, and cry loudly while attempting to wrap her short arms around his hips. She attempted to dig her face into him while trying to hold onto him for dear life. She wanted to hate him for abandoning her on that island all those years ago, and making her into a very sad, very scared little girl when she heard the news of his supposed death, and the deaths of the rest of her family. The girl wanted to beat the man into paste for toying with her feelings like this.

Why didn't he try to find her? Why didn't he say he was still alive, or at least send her a letter explaining that he was still alive? "Why? Why did you leave me all alone?" She finally spoke with a small voice. "Why didn't you try to find me, or at the very least send me a letter? I would've kept you living a secret..." She continued, in the same tone, this time every other word was separated by either a sob or hiccup. She wanted to loathe him because of his cruelty, in making her think he was dead then her finding out that he was alive like this.

"WHO DO YOU...”
”...THINK I AM?”

Gray’s identity now out in the open, there was very little he could do. The Vice Admiral’s expression indicated that he recognized the name, and surely he wouldn’t keep mum of such big news. However, Gray did not wish to create an unnecessary conflict. His survival’s revelation was an inevitable eventuality. His only regret was that he couldn’t complete his quest before his secret was let out. The quest that he had spent the past three years after…

Meanwhile, the white-haired maiden who was once a rowdy and popular cabin girl among the Soaring Pirates, before she was even ten years old, was now running at him with wavering emotions. As she slammed against him with open arms, Gray’s guard let up, slightly surprised to not see a violent reaction. As she tried to wrapped her arms around his hip, his tattered cloak scrunching within her arms, his gaze lost its intensity. Warm memories of the past, and the sweet smell of the sea that he sailed with his beloved nakama somehow re-invoked themselves within his senses. His eye started to water, his right hand now placed on Sora’s head, while his robotic hand patted her back as she complained. Why did they leave her alone? Why didn’t he tell her he was alive? The questions had answers, but Gray couldn’t find the strength to answer them.

But, Gray regained his composure quickly, remembering the presence of the Vice Admiral, who still seemed shell-shocked from the sudden change in atmosphere and the world-shaking revelation.

Gray suddenly grasped Sora with his right arm around her waist, and slung her over his right shoulder. Before the Vice Admiral could have the chance to react, Gray was already dashing through the streets with the white-haired maiden in tow. In only but a few seconds, they were on an abandoned cliff facing the sea, with a forest behind them. He then sighed and placed Sora back on the ground, who may very well have been dizzied by the uncomfortable ride and the blinding speed at which they traveled.

He dusted off his pants and cloak while staring out at the waves, and then turned to Sora to speak with a grim expression and a solemn voice. ”There is a reason why I haven’t been looking for you, Sora. The reason is simple. Because it wasn’t your turn yet.”
