- Joey can be summed up as an immature child with a heart of gold. He always puts the life of his friends, family, and those in need over his own. Unlike most others, Joey takes a more positive approach on life despite the hell he has went through in the past. Things rarely get to him unless it involves those he cares about getting put in danger. Joey is almost always seen with a smile, or grin on his face, never once showing any physical signs of anger when it comes to expressions. He is also pretty laid back which some could find out about him immediately by catching him whenever he is laying about randomly, or with his arms folded behind the back of his head. He likes to take things easy for the most part, and wishes others would too which is why he acts so nice even to those who may want to do him harm. This usually just ends up making people want to harm him more....
Another obvious trait about this young pirate, is his simple minded nature. Joey is known to be a bit slow when it comes to certain situations as he was never the type to pay attention in school (which he still should be in now, but decided it wasn't getting him anywhere...) Still he manages to have his moments, or at least manage to get help from others. If it isn't already obvious by his appearance, Joey is also a strong nature lover who loves finding himself in forests, oceans, or around wildlife of all sorts, even if they are trying to eat him, he might try to befriend them....or rather eat them instead. Just because he is a nature lover, doesn't mean Joey doesn't find other things interesting such as boats. He is very easy to impress most of the time due to being someone who really wants to go out there and see the world.
When it comes to friends, Joey is the type who wishes to make tons of them everywhere he goes, believing the world would just be better if everyone were friends. He'd even go further and treat those he claims as friends as family depending on how long they've known each other. To become the best captain, and see the world along with those who are close to him. When it comes to girls, Joey is no pervert, and doesn't really treat those of the opposite sex any different. Being more interested in his dreams, Joey never thought about getting into a relationship, only having a crush on his late friend before she died. Still he is a boy, a teenage boy at that, so he still notices women, but instead of getting weak in the knees like most other boys, he will keep his upbeat personality, and tell them how he feels, and even if he does get shot down he will hold no grudge, and simply shake it off. Being a bubbly simple minded fool can be charming too....right?
Joey is known to be very reckless as well, usually taking a more destructive route to get things done which suits his way of fighting, and impressive strength. Though, he is not the type to take someone's life unless his hand is forced, but even then he will not like it no matter how bad the person is. Wanting to be a pirate captain, Joey knows that he must get himself stronger for the trials that will come ahead. Being a pirate means bounty, and bounty means pesky Marines as well as those bounty hunters, so he will have to be prepared.
Joey wants to make sure that the world knows of his existence, and that he isn't afraid!

Nothing is known about Joey's origins, or even parents. As an infant, Joey was simply left on the door steps of an orphanage located at Dawn Island in the East Blue. For about five years now things were going fine for young Joey. Throughout his time, he was known for being a pretty relaxed, cheerful, and all around happy lad despite being teased from time to time by the other orphans there. He didn't mind it at all. The boy was just so positive!
However, the teasing has grown worse wants it was time for his first day at school.
A lot of kids are afraid about going to school for the first time, but it usually ends up being a fun experience. This isn't one of those moments however. Joey would be constantly bullied by the bigger kids because of his cheerful, and simple minded nature which would result in various different methods of bullying. Still, despite all of that Joey kept a positive look on his face, never without a smile it seemed. This only fueled his tormentors more, and this would keep going on, and on. Teachers didn't seem to want to help, and whenever the boy came home to the orphanage with various bruises and suck, the people working there would just turn the other way as if orphans were the scum of the Earth, who didn't deserve love, nor existence. Joey was hurting on the inside, despite that smile which only but a false sign at this point.
On, and on he would continue to get bullied until a girl by the name of Mei who was seven, two years older than Joey jumped in to help him much to the boy's surprise. She was a new student who came from a far away land of people that were skilled fighters and made little work out of those bullies to the point that they would never mess with Joey again, the girl acting as his bodyguard now. The two became quick friends and would always be seen together. It was thanks to her that his smiles could be more than just for show again! One day, the two would begin to talk about dreams and hobbies. Joey told Mei that he didn't have any hobbies, but he would like to be someone helpful like she was to him. He never thought about any big dreams. He just wanted to survive, find out who his parents are. That sort of stuff. Mei was obviously flattered by the boy's words, quickly taking a liking to her new friend. She would say that she wants to be someone who can help anyone as well, that she could do more, be better despite Joey constantly telling her that she already IS the best! She also dreams of going out there, and traveling the seas. She just wants to see what's out there, and all the potential friends she could meet. Joey who believed that was amazing as well decided that he would do that as well which would result in Mei saying that they should become pirates! Not just any pirates, but the best! They will get to do whatever they want with no rules, and make all sorts of friends! They agreed that they would do this together once they are ready!
Unfortunately, that day would never happen for one of them....
Joey who is now ten and Mei who is twelve, were always together to the point that others would tease them, but not in a bullying fashion this time around. Other children would say that they were boyfriend and girlfriend which Joey would always fluster up about, complaining that they weren't only for Mei to teasingly say they were much to Joey's embarrassment. The two even gave each other nicknames. Jojo for Joey, and Mei Mei for Mei. The nickname Joey gave to Mei wasn't exactly...all too creative, but she loved it nonetheless! They were pretty much always accompanying each other even to the point that Mei would sneak into the orphanage Joey resides in at night, and sneak him out to explore the island, pretending to be pirates. She grew to adore Joey's naive, cheerful nature, and Joey admired her fighting capabilities as well as her goals. The two have obviously grown a crush on the other, but being that they were only children, it was something the two never admit to each other. They had many good times together, sharing laughs and such ever since they first met, but all these good times would end one day when Mei suddenly collapsed while she was with Joey at school. She was quickly sent to a hospital where she was diagnosed with a incurable illness that was slowly eating away her insides without a sign or feeling.
Mei's body would grow weak each day. Joey would go to visit her at the hospital everyday, bringing with him books, flowers and various other things, keeping her company for hours, believing that she would get better and that they would still get to fulfill their dreams together. This has been going on for three years, and never once has Joey missed a day even when he got sick, he would still manage to get himself to her, not wanting to leave his friend's side for these hard times. One day, Joey now at the age of twelve was going to go to the hospital to see the fourteen year old Mei, but was stopped to find out that she passed away the other night after he left. Joey began to shake violently and fell to his knees, crying uncontrollably. All of the things he wanted to do with her, all of the things he wanted to talk to her about, their shared dream, crushed. He wasn't even able to be there for her during her passing at least....
Joey would then fall into a coma from shock for one year. This was the first time Joey had felt absolute dread, and hopelessness. To lose the only person who ever cared for him like this.
A year has passed, and Joey now thirteen woke up from his coma one night in the hospital. He was confused at first, before finally realizing that he is in a hospital which quickly made him think of Mei. He was prepared to shoot out of his room, and look for Mei to see how she was until he remembered...that she died. A nurse came into his room to see that the blonde has finally woken. Joey asked her what happened, and she told him of his coma, and that it has been a year much to Joey's surprise. The nurse told the teen that she will go alert the other doctors of him waking up as well as the people at the orphanage before leaving.
The orphanage....
Joey didn't want to go back to that place. They didn't care for him. He managed to sneak out of the hospital that not before the nurse could come back, and made his way to the docks where he was lucky to find a ship that was dropping off cargo about to leave. Joey sneaked in, and stayed hidden. Wherever this ship was going, Joey would start his new life there. He just wanted to get away from that place....this sadness. The ship finally docked somewhere else, and Joey managed to sneak out undetected. He was now in the South Blue, specifically Baterilla. This is where Joey will start his new life, but it proved to be far less easier than things back in the North. He had to struggle to get food mainly through stealing. He had to live off the street, but soon he would attempt to rob someone which of course ends badly at first for Joey, but soon the elderly man who he attempted to rob would take a liking to the boy, seeing a sense of determination in his eyes. The elderly man decided to take Joey in whether the teen accepted it, or not. The man revealed himself to be a part of a group of people located in the Grandline who specialize in a certain technique which Joey knew nothing about. What really got the blonde's attention was that the man claimed himself to be a former pirate. Don Zen'nin-sha of the Zen Pirates. Those words right there rekindled Joey, and Mei's dream of becoming pirates, to see the world. For three years, Joey would learn how to fight by the elderly man, even picking up a special technique that is passed down from the elderly man's family, Hasshoken. The man believed in Joey, and Joey found a reason to be cheerful once more, to be how he was before all this.
He is going to go out there with his own crew, see the world, meet tons of people. He will do it all not just for himself, but for Mei as well.

Wed Mar 15, 2017 10:22 amOne thing that I think you should probably reconsider is stowing away on a ship that's traveling from the North Blue to the South Blue. Because the two Blues are divided by the Red Line, I wouldn't recommend crossing it so casually in your history. After all, Brook did say that to cross the Red Line is a massive undertaking. One more thing I ask of you is to not mention the "Chinjao" family specifically, just because we're technically an alternate universe. You can still learn Hasshoken, just don't have his tutor specifically name the family. You should also think about giving his tutor a name, just to add more character depth and connection.

Clothing and Accessories:At a first glance, one would think Joey to be a farmer due to his attire. (Though his personality might not help much.) Joey's usual attire consists of light blue overalls that go all the way down to just below his knees. Underneath it is a short sleeved worn out shirt that is light brown in color which he acquired from his years as an orphan. Underneath that is YET another shirt which is black and has sleeves leading half way down his arms. Being more of an outside person, Joey usually wears light brown flip flops, thankfully without socks. Luckily he has a brown belt wrapped around his waist to keep that overall of his up. He also has a straw hat which completes his farmer like appearance. He never wears the hat oddly, and instead keeps it behind him held up by some black string he managed to connect together with said hat.

What really got the blonde's attention was that the man claimed himself to be a former pirate. Don Zen'nin-sha of the Zen Pirates. Those words right there rekindled Joey, and Mei's dream of becoming pirates, to see the world. For three years, Joey would learn how to fight by the elderly man, even picking up a special technique that is passed down from the elderly man's family, Hasshoken. The man believed in Joey, and Joey found a reason to be cheerful once more, to be how he was before all this.
He is going to go out there with his own crew, see the world, meet tons of people. He will do it all not just for himself, but for Mei as well.
