- History:
Moon Beach island is mainly a tourist spot, due to the islands unique shape and grey-moon colored sand. At night the sand glitters, reflecting the soft light of the moon. The rest of the island is spotted with small villages and the main city is located at the western tip of the crescent. Around most of the inland villages is forest with a winding trail leading to each of them. The main crop of the island is the cherimoya fruit which is one of the main exports alongside fish, timber, and berries. Magar’s home village of Koryoma is located towards the eastern tip on the outer curve of the island. However, further up north, lies a small fishing town where Magar was born. Magar was born into a family consisting of his mother Glajia, father Argell, and his grandfather on his father's side Rasbor. Later on Magar got a little sister, Onada.
Magar was born into a family with a long line of fishermen on his father’s side. On his home of Moon Beach Island, he lived with his mother, father, sister, and grandparents on his father’s side. Of his family, he respected his father Rasbor the most. At a young age, Magar started taking interest in fishing and his grandfather would spend time with him teaching him the basics.
One day, Magar got to go out on his father’s fishing vessel to watch his father and his crew work. That day a rogue sea king appeared, and Magar witnessed his father and his crew take the beast down, launching and hurtling giant harpoons. This jazzed up Magar even more. Seeing Magar’s growth in motivation, his grandfather decided it was about time for Magar to learn the family’s Line-in-Hand technique, which allowed the fisherman to cast fishing lines without a rod.
A few years of training later, Magar had become fairly proficient with the technique. That same time however, a group of defected and corrupt marines began an inhabitance of the island under the guise of active marines. The corrupt marines demanded resources from the different villages on the island. Within a year, as Magar trained and became stronger as a fisherman and swimmer, the Marines grew greedier. Tensions grew between the people of the villages and the Marines on the island. One night while Magar and his sister Onada were out on one of the beaches the caught the smell of smoke and the sound of voices. They followed the voices to discover a small band of the corrupt marines gloating about their brilliant plan to squat on the island as active marines. A misplaced step from his sister alerted the men to their presence. Onada managed to get away, Magar however was knocked out.
Next Magar woke up, he found himself in a box with his hands tied. Enclosed in pitch black, surrounded by the sound of the ocean and waves, Magar floated like this for days, knocking periodically in hopes that someone might hear. As time went on his knocks grew weaker. His stomach burned from hunger, his lips cracked from dehydration. He didn’t know if this coffin would be where he’d die for good or not.
After days of floating with no sense of time or direction, Magar’s box was pulled from the ocean onto the ship of a group of pirates. Discovering that the kid Magar was in there, the pirates quickly rushed him to their doctor. After being treated Magar asked the pirates to help him get back home and help him with his problem back home. The Pirates agreed to help him get back home, but would see about helping out with the other problem. These pirates were the Red Talon Pirates, lead by captain Almon, consumer of the hawk zoan fruit. The Red Talon Pirates were a friendly group, not like the stories of pirates Magar had heard of in the news. The Red Talon Pirates allowed Magar on as a temporary member until they got him home. While on the Red Talon’s ship, Magar had his first encounter with a Fishman. Magar talked with the fishman quite a bit trying to learn more about him and his species. Magar took great interest in the fishman's Gyojin Karate. He quite enjoyed his time with the crew and was fascinated by the stories that they had to tell.
After a few days with the Red Talon Pirates, Magar was returned home. Though when he came through the door, the mood was sullen. After his disappearance, Magar’s father and some of the others from the village retaliated against the false marines, Magar’s father was wounded and executed with a few of the other men for their rebellion. In tears Magar pleaded to Almon for help. Almon patted Magar’s head and smiled before saying “ We’ll always help out one of ours.” He said before relieving Magar of his duty to the crew. The Red Talon pirates left and a few days later, the news of the false marines being beaten and kicked off the island came across.
Magar took inspiration from his time with the Red Talon pirates to train so that he may one day go out to sea on his own to experience the world beyond what he knew. Adventure called, and so he trained. Magar trained for years, becoming one of the strongest individuals on the island as well as one of the best swimmers there as well earning him the nick name 'Land Shark'. When Magar hit 17 he set sail on his own to find a teacher to teach him more about Gyojin Karate.
After some time at sea, fishing and hopping from island to island, Magar found himself a Teacher. The teacher's name was Martu Blackfin, an old dogfish fishman who had settled on a small island off the coast of a bigger main island in the west blue. Martu aggreed to teach Magar after Magar mentioned the name of the fishman that had been on Almon's crew. Magar spent five years training under Martu's guidance. In that time, Magar had advanced at a surprising pace to both Martu and his own surprise. They had formed a strong bond, talked more about themselves. When Magar mentioned his mother's name, Martu spat out his drink. "Huh, Small world." Martu commented. Martu then said that he knew both Magar's mother and her father, Magar's grandfather. "No wonder you picked this up so quickly." Martu said. Martu then gave Magar a name to look for, Amparo. "I've taught you a good deal here, but he can teach you so much more." Martu told Magar. " And I think he'd appreciate a visit from his grandson.
So Magar set sail once again. On top of living the greatest life he could and becoming the greatest fisherman, Magar now had a new goal of finding his Grandfather and further mastering Gyojin Karate.

History looks good Greys. I'd just add a little bit about Orion at the very end there. Maybe some sort of promise of reuniting their father's pendant? Just to show the state of their bond as they parted ways.

I really like how you handled the brothers' parting! Exchanging their pendant halves was a great idea.
Niko wrote:Niko X. Jewell.
Basic Character Information
Starting Bonus: Soar, Phoenix| Starting roll
First Name: Niko
Middle Name/Initial: X
Last Name: Jewell
Epithet: The Red Storm
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Faction: Pirate
Profession: Navigator/ Cartographer
Physical Appearance
Height: 8'1
Weight: Roughly around 200
Hair Style: Short, Messy Spikey
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Blue
Scars: Several on his torso, but nothing notable.
Clothing and Accessories: Niko often wears a very plain set of clothes. Oft sticking to a plain solid color V-neck T-shirt and a darker solid color pair of pants. He wears a solid black pair of boots. In colder weather he will don a grey colored long coat with lighter colored grey fur-like lining. In warmer weather he may switch out his pants for shorts and his boots for sandals. The only thing of his wardrobe that stands out is a small half of a metal emblem he wears around his neck.
Description: Niko's body is well built from the years of rigorous training for him and his brother to take over as military leaders. At over eight feet tall, with a solid build, Niko is an intimidating figure to stand against.
The Past
Main Traits: Adventurous, Dependable, Carefree, Daring
Likes: Discovering New places, Breathtaking views, Freedom, New experiences, Training
Dislikes: Rules, Strict schedules, Pushy people, Conflict, Boasting
Hometown: Polmachi Island
Personality:
From a glance, standing over eight feet tall Niko might be described as intimidating. Niko's typical stone face, hides a heart yearning for adventure and the freedom that the sea provides. Despite his physical standing out of being tall and having bright red hair, Niko doesn't actually like to stand out, causing him to dress plain to balance out his more outstanding features. His general expression often brings people to think that he's uncaring, but Niko's eyes are always watching and assessing out of habit from his upbringing. Despite Niko's intimidating size, Niko as actually a bit of a gentle giant.
Niko's smile shows up when he's being introduced to new and exciting experiences. His rare smile can brighten a room. His openness to new experiences leads to making friendly bonds easily. Though he prefers to have several really strong bonds when it comes to friends. When it comes to friends he's formed strong bonds for he is incredibly loyal and dependable. A good friend he will fight tooth and nail for, despite his disliking of conflict. Those who form a really strong bond with Niko can expect a friend until the end.
Niko spends a good portion of his days training, that is the one thing that he actively schedules. Outside of that, Niko dislikes having schedules that tell him where and when to do things. He loves the freedom that comes with adventuring on the seas. Often he can be found taking a nap. Good friends, he might do favors for if asked nicely. Overall, Niko is a pretty, go with the flow type of person.
Despite all Niko's training that he's done, He isn't all that fond of fighting or conflict. He tends to stick to his father's words of "Soldiers don't train to fight, Soldiers train to protect." Niko would prefer to talk things out to a solution, and avoid any unnecessary violence. He dislikes people that boast about their strength, but will never start over such a subject. Very rarely will Niko actively start a fight, those exceptions are typically to protect a friend's honor. When Niko ends up in combat, Niko is a tenacious fighter and very skilled from years of training.
One quirk that Niko tends to display, is when he is thinking, he will rub the split pendant on his necklace.
- History:
Niko and his brother Orion were born into a noble family. Their mother had died during their birth, and their father was a Military leader. Being the sons of a noble military leader, they were both raised as soldiers. They trained in combat and tactics from a young age. While their father was harsh on both of them in training, as a father he loved both boys deeply. When the boys started with school, that added another layer to their strict routines. Both boys excelled in their training and schoolings. Niko found he had an excellent sense of direction and smell, and was gifted when it came to survival training. While Orion on the other hand was much better at tactics and had an eye for patterns. The boys were often scoffed at by the other noble children for having to do their silly training. The boys had to just take the insults, so as to not act out of turn. Their father had always told them to be smart about what fights they did and didn’t pick. During their early days of training, their father would always tell them “We don’t train to fight, we train to protect others.” Their father told them that practically every day.
One day while the boys were out training in the estate grounds, Niko heard an rustle in the bushes and threw a stone at the source. The stone connected, paired with a yelp. Pushing aside the bushes to see what Niko had hit, they found a girl in rags holding her head. Niko felt a sudden rush of guilt and went to the girl asking if she was ok. After applying some herbs to the girls forehead and calming her down, the boys were able to talk to her. Her name was Kayla, she was a girl from one of the villages further down the hill. She said that she was exploring and found a gap in the fence that she squeezed through. The boys told her to go home so that they didn’t have to report her for trespassing. She left, but she wasn’t out of their lives.
From that day on, Kayla kept coming back to visit. Hanging out and watching them train, asking them questions. The boys were actually glad to have some company other than the snobby noble kids from school. All the time Kayla would ask the boys to go exploring with them, the boys generally opposed. Though one day, curiosity of what was beyond the walls of the noble housing got the best of Niko, and he offhandedly accepted Kaylas invitation. Orion was reluctant to come along, but wasn’t going to let Niko to go out on his own. The boys followed Kayla to the hole in the fence that she kept getting in through. After leaving the grounds of the property, Kayla led the brothers through wilderness of the island, Orion seemed to be having trouble, but Niko was excited to be out in unfamiliar territory. Niko was happy to have the freedom from the rote schedules of their usual day. It was during this adventure that Niko discovered his wanderlust. Everything was a new and exciting experience for him.
Kayla brought the brothers back to her village. She apologized for it being boring, but to the brothers it was actually a new and exciting experience. As the trio were walking through the village streets, a group of older and bigger boys approached them. They called out Kayla, asking if she’d found more freaks on her adventures. Kayla defended by telling the boys that the brothers weren’t freaks, calling the older boys names. The older boys took offense and began approaching the three, with grins and cracking knuckles. The leader went to throw the first punch. Kayla screamed, but the impact never came. Niko had stepped in and caught the older boy’s fist, staring daggers at the leader. Niko then twisted the boys arm and kicked him in the gut. Orion stepped up beside Niko as the other boys watched their buddy crumple to the ground. “Anyone else?” Niko asked. The older boys quickly scrambled to get their friend, profusely apologizing as they ran away. Kayla piped up on how amazing the brothers were scaring off those other guys. Kayla invited the brothers for dinner at her house. Niko accepted despite Orion’s suggestions of getting back home. Niko told Orion that he had a good feeling about it.
Niko and Orion joined Kayla for dinner along with her large extended family. Kayla introduced the brothers to everyone, and told her family how the brothers helped scare off the older boys who keep teasing her. Kayla’s mother thanked the brothers for keeping Kayla safe from the bullies earlier. The dinner was crowded and unruly, nothing like it was back at home. But the food was also amazing. The company was a welcomed surprise for the brothers, since dinners back home were usually pretty quiet and lonely. Almost everyone at the table had a story to share. And with each story of the world beyond the island, Niko’s thirst for that adventure grew even more.
After the dinner ended, the boys realized that they’d stayed much longer than they had intended. The boys thanked Kayla’s family for the meal. That moment, Niko’s nose picked up the scent of smoke on the wind. Niko turned to see a red glow and smoke on the upper hill where the Noble Housing was. Niko urgently tapped Orion on the shoulder, and took off towards the noble village. When the boys got to the village there were guards at the entrance keeping people out and away from the blaze. Niko and Orion were kept outside the village until morning after the fire had been quelled. Once they were let in, they rushed to see a smoldering black hole where their home had been. Niko grabbed a passing guard and asked how the fire started and if their father was alive. The guard told them that no one knew how the fire had started, but several of the noble homes had been consumed. As for their father, there had been no sign of him. And if he were still in the burnt pile, it wasn’t likely that he was alive. Devastated, the brothers grieved together in front of the charred remains of their home.
After the rubble was removed, the only thing that the brothers were able to recover was a slightly disfigured metal pendant. Other than that and the clothes on their backs, the boys had nothing to their name. With no home to go to, the boys heavy heartedly trudged back to Kayla’s home to ask if they could stay there. Kayla’s mother was heartbroken at the boys’ loss, and said that they could stay with them as long as they helped out with chores. The brothers wept at the generosity of Kayla’s mother.
The next few years the boys lived with Kayla’s family. The brothers kept training together and getting stronger. The three would sit and listen to Kayla’s grandfather’s stories about the seas. With Kayla, they were always going out on adventures and exploring. That’s when Niko discovered map making. It may have been a coping method, but he would draw out the area that the three explored each day and keep records. The boys stopped looking at what they had lost, and more at what they still had. They had split the pendant they had found in their home and each wore a half as a reminder.
One day as the three were out adventuring, Niko stepped on a loose spot of ground and fell into a hole. He passed out when he hit the ground, and woke up in a dimly lit cave network. Niko followed the dim light source out of the cave, and eventually found his way out. He wasn’t sure how long it was that he’d been out, but he was starving. Once he was out of the cave, Niko came to a new part of the island that he’d never been to before. After a bit of wandering, Niko spotted a fruit on a tree. It was red with some light blue swirls on the exterior. He’d never seen anything like it before, but he was so hungry he was willing to take the chance of it being poisonous. Niko savagely rushed to the fruit and ripped it from the tree, scarfing it down, not sure if the skin was even edible. Immediately Niko was re-energized. Also immediately he shot up above the trees accompanied by a sudden clap of thunder, before shrinking back down. Niko was surprised and confused at what had just happened. He wondered if he could see where he was from that height, and managed to shift back to the tall form. From where he was he could see the village from where he was. From seeing the village, Niko could remap the path that the group took to about where he fell. Niko took a look at his hands which were a striking red with blue marks about them. He then thought about being smaller again, and shrank back down. Niko started heading back towards where he had fallen, but just then Orion and Kayla came running exclaiming something about a giant. Niko then said that the giant they were talking about was him.
The trio rushed back to the town to ask Kayla’s grandfather about strange fruits. Her grandfather then told them about devil fruits and the powers that they could bestow upon those that consume them. From then on, along with usual training, Niko was also training in the use of his new devil fruit powers.
When Niko was 17, he decided to head out to sea to quench his thirst for adventure and see the world with his own eyes, mapping out what he saw and experienced. Orion would also travel, but for the sake of politics. Traveling from island to island to observe different models of government that might better suit and balance the people, making life on Polmachi better for everyone. Before the brothers departed, they'd trade their halves of the pendant to each other with the promise of giving them back one day when they've reached their goals. Kayla being a couple years younger than Niko, said she’d set out when she was the same age. Niko told her that she’d need to catch up to him eventually. Then he set sail.
