LEONARDO LA SCALA PARADISO
Basic Character Information
Forename: Leonardo
Middle Name/Initial: La Scala
Surname: Paradiso
Epithet: N/A
Birthdate: 11th of January 1803
Gender: Male
Species/Tribe: Human (but lives the life of a tortoise)
Faction: Civilian
Profession: Bouncer, Pit fighter, Debt collector
Physical Appearance
Height: 8'4" (2.57m) in his Hybrid tortoise form, human height unknown
Weight: 1960 lbs (889kg) in his Hybrid tortoise form, human weight unknown
Hair Style: Bald, human hairstyle unknown
Hair Color: Unknown
Eye Color: Yellow with dark pupils, human eye color unknown
Scars: N/A
Gear: Leonardo is not picky about his looks but focuses more on the functionality side of his clothing. He usually wears a simple black tank top and matching dress pants which are held up by a simple leather belt with a silver belt buckle. He wears no shoes due to them not fitting his feet. While not in action or in a place where the weather is not up to Leonardo's standards, he wears a light gray trench coat which is large enough to cover the shell on his back combined with a matching colored fedora.
Description: Leonardo is a dark green-skinned tortoise with piercing yellow eyes, a long face with a sharp nose, and a rather large mouth. By average human standards, Leonardo is rather tall, easily towering over most people he walks by on the street. He weighs about nine times more than an average human but that is because Leonardo is a very muscular man with the majority of his body showcasing some bulking muscles which are needed to help him carry around the heavy shell. Ironically the shell contributes a lot to his weight. His actual form, the human form in its adult state is unknown as Leonardo has been unable to transform back into his original self ever since he ate the Devil Fruit. Having become at peace with who he is, he proudly calls himself a tortoise.
The Past
Main Traits: Distrustful. Aggressive. Dark and sarcastic sense of humor.
Likes: Simple things in life. Gambling. Meaningful violence.
Dislikes: Meaningless violence. Overly flashy things. Smoking. Opening up about himself.
Unique laugh: Tor-tor-tor-tor
Hometown: South Blue. Briss Kingdom
Personality: Having gone through a cruel life full of mistreatment and torture, it certainly has left a mark on Leonardo. He has a cynical and distrustful view of the world and other people, often expecting the worst from them, which makes him reluctant to open up or trust anyone... But it has happened before.
This has led him to develop a defensive and aggressive attitude, often lashing out at others or hurting them before they can hurt themselves. Having taken someone's life at a rather early age, he has no problem getting his own hands dirty and roughing up some feathers... But without any specific orders or an absolute reason, a simple beating up usually suffices.
Leonardo has a hard time expressing or feeling positive emotions, such as happiness, love, or gratitude... Some would even say that he only has two emotional facial expressions... Neutral and angry, one of which gives him a good advantage in gambling. He does however have a dark and sarcastic sense of humor, often using it as a coping mechanism or a way to mask their pain.
- History:
- Give me the right to be heard
To be seen, to be loved, to be free
To be everything I need to be me
To be safe, to believe… in something
A mantra that should be dedicated to every child in the whole wide world. Unfortunately, there is a countless amount of those who'll never be able to live by it... Leonardo was one of those many children.
Born into a cultist family living on the outskirts of Briss Kingdom, Leonardo was not assigned a name after birth... Rather the family preferred to label the children using numbers or just call them "the child". Leonardo being the firstborn, became known as "Number One" in the family. His parents were cold and cruel fanatics of a family cult they had created. The cult contained multiple strange traditions and rules. One of which was to feed a Zoan fruit to each family member the moment they could eat solid food.
Having barely been a year old, Leonardo was already fed a minced-up devil fruit which immediately turned him into a tortoise... A similar fate awaited many of his siblings who were to be born later on. And as it was the tradition of the cult... No one, not a single one of the children was taught to return to their humanity. One big 'happy' family of misfits... All different creatures.
Mistreated his entire life, Leonardo's day contained demeaning slurs, daily beatings, and preaching. The beatings on him and his siblings were so bad, that not all survived them. He spent the entirety of his childhood barricaded inside the house. The world is a cruel and ugly place, his parents told him. But Briss Kingdom was far from being the ugliest there was... The ugly thing, however, was the home life.
A child's curiosity is comparable to that of a cat. When he was twelve years old, he momentarily sneaked himself out of the house while his parents and siblings were asleep. He saw the outside world for the first time in his life... And he liked what he saw. The greenery, the flowing waters, the blue sky. These pleasant views kept lingering within him... A dream was born. To see more of it. To spend the days outside.
But the parents got the whiff of what he had done, leading Leonardo to be chained in the room along with the remaining two siblings... So no one would ever do what he had done... Ever again. Within just hours, he went from a mistreated numbered child into a mistreated prisoner at a place he was supposed to call his home.
But the dream... Stayed. Dreaming is what keeps people sane. It thrives them... And it thrived Leonardo, as well as his siblings who he told the stories of outside. The years chained, the dream... It however slowly began to change him. It drove him towards a life of hatred, especially to those who gave birth to him. Life indeed was cruel. A cruel joke.
Having outgrown his parents by the time he was fifteen, he broke the chains of his own and those of his siblings... But it was not an easy escape... Things just got out of hand, with the altercation turning bloody. The lack of love the parents felt for their children did not stop them from taking their lives... They could just make more of them, they said...
No more children born into this family should experience what he had felt... The physical pain... The mental pain... The life in darkness, the loss of his siblings.
There was nothing left... Not even a hesitation. Being physically superior, Leonardo, the child number one, took the lives of his parents in the very same altercation. He burned the house... All the memories of what he was supposed to call home.
With nothing holding him back anymore, he left the scene to explore the 'cruel' world. He was not however accepted at many places. As a walking talking enormous tortoise, he could as well be considered a freak. But there were exceptions. Not all saw him as a freak... Some saw an opportunity. A local small-time underground crime family saw a walking talking tank as someone who could bring them a lot of berries.
Leonardo was given work as a local debt collector, eventually becoming a pit fighter for the family as well as a bouncer for the small-time gambling den. With work came benefits. He had a place to stay, berries to spend... And finally... A real name, even giving himself a surname of his own. Leonardo... With a punch so strong it sent people on a stairway to heaven... La Scala Paradiso. But the distrust remained... It was part of a family, a crime family... But what stops the 'family' from treating him as the family before had?

[approve]The tragic story of a tortoise begins. It's a shame his purpose has become to be used as a tool. Perhaps that'll change one day.[/approve]
