Detailed Description: As a tall, muscular man Eva has the body of a fighter. His muscles have been built through countless brawls and hours of training, but remain lean and not bulky due to his focus on speed. His stature, combined with his short light blonde hair and piercing red eyes, strikes an imposing, and to some, terrifying figure. Fuelled by his narcissism and arrogance -as well as one too many drinks- he decided to get a tattoo of his own name on his back, over an older tattoo of an artistic depiction of a tree. The latter was done so as to conceal the scars left by whipping during his slave days.

Personality: Eva is extremely arrogant. He believes he can achieve everything he wants, just as long as he simply tries. He thinks of himself as the greatest there has ever been and ever will be. Many believe him to be a narcissist, yet he denies it, claiming he can't possibly love himself when he loves women so much. He is a notorious, yet unsuccessful womanizer, disliked by almost every woman he meets. He pays little mind to insults and disregards them as jokes or petty acts of jealousy. Despite having a magnanimous personality, he displays shocking ruthlessness when someone interferes with his goals and commands respect from any who dare call themselves men.
His one simple dream is to achieve absolute freedom, for himself and the world. His desire for freedom is so strong, he sometimes finds himself discontent with the laws of nature, thinking they bind him and prevent his absolute freedom. This attitude has many times caused trouble for him with the Marines, often leading to fights and imprisonment, further fuelling his desire for freedom. From such experiences, he has found himself believing that the way to absolute freedom is obtaining absolute power.

Eva was born and abandoned in an unknown island. He was found by an underground slave fighting organization. He grew up imprisoned, fighting every day for his survival and the amusement of rich sadists. He did not yet know the concept of freedom.
He started fighting small animals like dogs, cats and flocks of mad roosters when he was 6 years old. If he somehow managed to end the fight quickly, by sneaking in a weapon, he would be whipped for not putting on a show. After returning to his cell, he overheard two other slaves talking about how their lives were when they were 'free'. This was the first time he heard the word 'free'.
As he grew he fought larger and fiercer animals, ranging from bulls, bears, lions and hippos. Once, when he was 13, a bull had broken the cage and he tried to escape. He was promptly caught by members of the audience, wearing, what he later found out to be Marine uniforms. He was whipped and starved for 2 days. This was when the concept of freedom first started forming in young Eva's mind.
Finally, when he was around 18 years old he fought his first human. Sometimes he would fight other slaves, this was easy, as they both knew they had to kill or be killed. There were no bad feeling or grudges. It was simple. Other times, however, he would have to fight newly caught prey. The organizers would have kidnapped someone and brought them here to be killed. The prey would cry, scream and plead for mercy. They would often talk about their 'families' and mention a world Eva could never have imagined. He would always kill them, though, in the end. This was the point Eva set his goal to freedom. From that day forward he trained even harder and tried developing skills that would help him escape, all the while waiting for the perfect chance.
After three years, at age 21, an opportunity came. After he had finished killing a newly caught human and was being escorted to his cell, he heard gunshots and people shouting from the audience. One of the two guards escorting him run toward the commotion, while the other tried to hurriedly get him to his cell. Fearing such an opportunity would never come again, Eva strangled the guard with his handcuffs, searched the body for a key and ran to the cells. Killing a few guards on the way, he released all the slaves and told them to run to the exit. Mingling with them they reached the exit, where marines had rounded up the audience and some guards. Seeing the slaves running toward them wildly, the marine officer in charge of the raid ordered his men to shoot at will. Using his slave-mates as shields, Eva ran straight to the exit. Starting to feel that he wouldn’t make it, despair took hold of him. He screamed, releasing, unbeknownst to him, a powerful wave of Haoshoku haki. Without looking around he continued forward and ran towards a nearby thick forest.
He was running for hours when he looked around and realized he was alone. Having reached a small port-town he saw a big ship and sneaked on it. He found some rations and filled his pockets, then proceeded to hide in a big crate of potatoes, where he fell asleep. When he finally awoke, the ship had sailed and reached another port. Sneaking off the ship, he saw a big town, with a large sign at its entrance. It read: "Loguetown".
In the five years following his escape, he kept training and joined the revolutionary army, hoping it would assist him in achieving his goal. He quickly climbed the ladder thanks to his skill and haki, and eventually made it to the position of Commander. In order to increase the army’s strength, he was chosen to eat the Ito Ito no Mi and trained to use it.
