Cho Nan
Basic Character Information
First Name: Nan
Last Name: Cho
Epithet: Shōbushi [勝負師 - Gambler / Risk Taker]
Birthdate: August 18th, 1808
Gender: Female
Species/Race/Tribe: Kuja
Faction: Marine
Profession: Doctor
Physical Appearance
Height: 168 cm [5'6"]
Weight: 52 kg [114 lbs]
Hair Style: Medium length, asymmetrically cut
Hair Color: Sapphire with azure tips
Eye Color: Emerald
Scars: None
Clothing and Accessories: Having a fondness for clothing that allow her to move around freely, the young, self-proclaimed fashionista can usually be seen wearing the combination of an indigo colored, sleeveless bodysuit, embellished with silver ornaments, and a sleeveless and highly adorned overcoat resembling a qipao dress. The overcoat mainly carries a variety of blue shades and is decorated with a mixture of ebony and ivory designs with the fabric's choker carrying a shade of white. Innocently ivory colored fur decorates the shroud and sleeve ends of the young doctor's Marine jacket, which she usually wears by simply letting it hang over her shoulders in a manner similar to how higher ranking Marines wear their coats.
Her legs are usually wrapped into a pair of high-heeled boots that reach beyond her knees, even covering half of her thighs. Even though being a diligent doctor, the young woman has a certain fondness for accessories. While refraining from wearing rings or bracelets, she, however, got her ears pierced multiple times, wearing a pair of larger, crystal shaped earrings as well multiple studs of which some are connected by a small chain. Nan further decorated her choker by attaching a good luck charm in the shape of a die to it and tends to wear mittens that are white in color and barely cover her wrists.
Description: Nan's athletic body is neither the tallest nor the shortest; for young women like her of ordinary height she nearly stands to five feet, six inches. Looking at her one might envy the young woman for her fair and flawless skin, which seemingly lacks any trace of common blemishes such as birthmarks or scars. While it is true that her skin lacks these imperfections that can be considered witnesses of one's life and the incidents shaping the same, this is not because the Kuja has been especially fortunate or lucky, but rather because of her using her Devil Fruit powers to remove the scars she received in the past. Looking at her petit physique it might be difficult to imagine her being a defender of Justice, but even though lacking bulky muscles Nan's frame is highly agile, weighing no more than 114 lbs.
Her medium length hair carries a shade of sapphire and is cut in an asymmetrical manner, leaving the right side longer than the left. Her bangs follow the same awry cut as they curtain over her forehead. While the female Marine's hair is blue by nature, she went and dyed the tips of it azure, granting her already somewhat tomboyish appearance an even more rebellious note. While usually leaving most of her mane to be a disheveled mess, the inky topped female tends to braid a few strands of her into a single braid that dangles from the back of her head. The Kuja's eyes are emerald in color and carry a somewhat cold air despite the passion dwelling within their owner's heart.
The Past
Main Traits:
♡ Kind, Hard-working, Righteous, Perceptive, Erudite
♤ Stubborn, Emotional, Prejudiced, Overprotective, Soft-hearted
Likes: Gambling|
Dislikes: Killing Others | Cruelty| Pirates| Helplessness | Her mother | Snakes
Unique laugh: シャリリリー [Shaririri~]
Hometown: Sessha Town, Jinja Island, Grand Line
Personality: The name "World Government", which sends shivers down the spines of most criminals roaming the seas, is often associated with stern individuals that mercilessly pursue to the concept of absolute justice; this imagination, however, only partially bears resemblance to Nan, who may harbor an animosity for pirates, but first and foremost considers herself a doctor. Due to this she will treat any patient equally, independent of their race, alignment, personality or even her personal grudges; even going as far as to save a pirate's life despite despising these contemptible criminals and blaming them for the chaotic state of the world as well as the death of her family. But even though generally being a caring and soft-hearted person, Nan actually doesn't shrink from displaying a rather cold behavior towards individuals she doesn't trust or like.
Her epithet "Shōbushi", however, doesn't just originate from her treating allies and enemies alike and thereby taking risks, but also from her beliefs. Even though having grown up in a rather traditional and religious environment, she doesn't believe in any kind of divine powers and instead is certain that everything in life is simply a gamble. It, of course, can't be denied that the dark haired woman also has a certain fondness for gambling as it to her is a means of killing time and relaxing. Nan in generally is an easy-going individual, who firmly believes in justice and cannot stand watching others grieve. The only thing she hates more than cruelty is the feeling of helplessness and so she won't just sit by and watch, if innocent people suffer and will instead do everything within her might to help.
Nan might not look like it, but the truth is that the young doctor actually has a weak spot for cute things, such as puppies and anything similarly adorable, which cause her to turn into a total fangirl. When it comes to the topic of battles, Nan actually doesn't enjoy fighting and would rather choose another way to put conflicts aside, which, however doesn't mean that she isn't a skilled combatant.
- History:
Born in Sessha Town, one of the settlements located on the peaceful Grand Line island called Jinja, Nan grew up within a sheltered and loving environment as the older of two sisters. Her parents weren't rich, but kind people that had completely devoted themselves to the well-being of their daughters. Life back then seemed like a never-ending dream to the innocent child, who was known for being the spitting image of her mother. Back then Nan was actually proud of bearing such a semblance to her parent and always wanted to keep her hair long in order to resemble her even more. Her mother, a Kuja woman named Tsubaki, was a strong, kind, wise and beautiful woman with the magical ability to create soapy bubbles out of nowhere; an idol Nan believed to be without flaw. She taught her children about the world, how to defend themselves and values she considered important while their father, a scholar named Cho Shin, taught them to respect life as well as the customs and traditions of the island they called their home.
Being located in the vicinity of an island nation called Wano and therefore surrounded by harsh seas, the inhabitants of Jinja weren't as troubled by pirate attacks as other places. But the dreamy life Nan back then believed to last forever was eventually shattered shortly after the young girl's sixth birthday. It was the day that her mother's past caught up to her and Nan's world was shattered in the process. The attack hit the small island's population without a warning and entirely changed its appearance as the invading raiders brought nothing but destruction with them, burning villages, stealing valuables and killing those that dared to resist or failed to hide in the depths of the dense forests. To the young child the entire raid seemed like a random act of violence, while the actual target of the attack had been her mother, who had stolen some of their valuable treasures when deserting their crew in order to settle down almost a decade ago.
When her mother realized what was going on, it was already too late to evacuate her family and not wishing for the treasure she had stolen to fall into the hands of her former crew, Tsubaki took the Devil Fruit she had stolen from them and force-fed it her oldest daughter without even telling her child what was going on. Having the gross tasting and odd looking fruit shoved into her mouth, Nan almost passed out as she tried to eat the abomination of nature, which she barely considered edible. By the time she had caught her breath again, her mother was gone. Lured out of the house by the resounding noise of familiar voices in the form of screams, Nan was forced to witness the deaths of her neighbors, friends, parents and even her younger sister. It didn't matter, if people resisted or peacefully surrendered, they were all killed one after the other. She herself would have certainly followed them to the grave, if it hadn't been for the sudden arrival of the Marines.
Traumatized by what she had just experienced the world around Nan began to fade and the young girl collapsed even before becoming aware that she had been saved. She awoke in the care of a female doctor treating her along with the other survivors. It was then that she realized that she had lost everyone and everything, a truth she struggled to accept. But it wasn't just the pain of loss that tortured her: the helplessness that ravaged her soul was at least as painful. The traumatized child had no idea how much time had actually passed, but when the Marines prepared to leave the island, Nan had decided to join their ranks and insisted on them taking her with them. Despite initial resistance her stubbornness eventually triumphed and the girl left her home. Marine training was difficult and while it every so often caused her to reach her limits, she managed to eventually grow stronger.
It was during her training days that she learnt that her mother had fed her a so-called Devil Fruit; a realization that followed a scary experience as she almost drowned in an accident that took place during a maneuver. As a result she also learnt that what she had always believed to be her mother's magic powers were also the abilities of one of these apparently cursed fruits. But learning that she would never be able to swim again wasn't the most shocking revelation: during her studies in the archives of the Marines she learnt that her mother had been a pirate and it became obvious that the pirates had come to Jinja Island because of her. At that point the love she had always felt for her parent turned into sheer hatred and while she had previously been proud to resemble her mother Nan now cursed her appearance. Not wishing to be associated to a pirate she cut her hair, dyed parts of it and used her Devil Fruit powers to remove all the birthmarks and moles blemishing her body.
Carrying her father's surname, Nan didn't think about changing it and instead continued to proudly think of herself as the daughter of a scholar. Intending to honor her father and his legacy she continued to study hard in order to become a doctor. Years passed and the innocent child turned into a proud doctor working hard to save lives and protect the people from the scourge known as pirates.

This is an excellently written bio! I just have a couple of comments that I would like you to consider.
1. The application of the Ito Ito no Mi to remove blemishes is interesting, but I don't see how it could do the same with any scars she might've had. Surgically removing growths on the skin is a reasonable application, but the additive nature of mending permanent scarring doesn't quite fit the Ito Ito no Mi.
2. Her being a Kuja seems rather pointless based on her history. The Kuja tribe itself is more of a culture than it is a race, so if she grew up anywhere outside of Amazon Lily with basically no exposure to the Kuja ways, then I would rather you specify her tribe as human. Her mother can be a retired Kuja warrior if you'd like.
3. It seems to be that you're implying her mother had the Awa Awa no Mi. The implication is a bit risky because that is a canon fruit that's moderately popular. Implying its user in your bio canonizes the fruit's history. If anyone else were to claim it for their character, they might need to account for your character's history. While I'm okay with allowing you to imply the Awa Awa no Mi's historical use here, I would like you to at least consider putting in more vague descriptions of her powers if at all possible.
