" ...P-plan- What?? W-wait, we never- "
A hushed hiss came from behind a tensed maw of pointed teeth hiding somewhere in the aether. At the moment she was wrestling with the binding of her own indecision. If she didn't move, maybe the dog would just lose interest...?
Before she even dared to descend from the mess of the table the rat was caught up by the marine and flung in her direction. A shrill yelp joined the cacophony of shattered wood and wasted food as Pikasso tried and failed to keep alight on the wreck of the table. With fancy footwork she managed to catch herself mid-fall, enough at least to land on her feet, sliding two heel marks into the debris as her boots tried to find purchase in the chaos collected on the floor.
Aya's gaze frantically poured over the unfolding scene for a glimpse of the vicious canine, only taking a few brief glances toward Maxwell. Still, those snapshots were enough to catch wind of what he was setting his sights on.. and to watch him throw himself through the large pane of glass with another terrible crash.
Pikasso stood on her tiptoes to peer out the jagged frame of the window to assure he had survived the jump. No sense yelling at someone already dead and gone, after all. Luckily, Richard seemed like the resilient type.
Aya, however, was less willing to go through the pain of a fall through and onto glass like that. After all, this party dress was new! To her, at least. And no one even saw it here!
" ...I'll find youteia!.."
With the panic in her voice, it was unclear whether her shout-out to him was a desperate grasp at any semblance of plans for the future or just a thinly veiled threat.
As she swung around she was met with a front-row view of a snarling canine who looked fierce enough to give the wannabe apparition a run for her money. Drool-soaked jowls parted to give some sort of gravely alert bark, the hound's training giving Aya a tiny head start as the mink began running as fast as her short little legs would let her.
From seemingly nowhere the dog snapped his teeth onto the edge of a sheet... quickly snagging the ghost costume right off of Pikasso's body. After some thrashing and the chewing of a few new holes into the sheet, the beast concluded he hadn't grabbed what he was really after, dropped it, and hurried after the invisible girl as she skittered through the nearest lofty doorway.
In her panic she set her sights on higher grounds. Perhaps it was simply instinct.
If Pikasso had been more perceptible it would have looked like some sort of strange fairytale for a split moment; the little mink dashing up the stairs with her arms snugly hugging her tail to her chest, all aflutter with flouncy dress material and fur as she glanced over her shoulder at her pursuer... But the scene was quickly given a Grimm twist. Aya yelped as the hunting hound scrambled for purchase on the polished stone floors and bashed into the banister just before launching himself up the first few stairs after her.
She did not want to let that beartrap of a mouth get anywhere near her.
" ...Bad dog!! BAD DOG!!!"

One of the guns poked far too close to the rat’s nose. “You are surrounded! Surrender now or-!” The ultimatum was cut short by a fearful squeak. “I surrender!” To underline the claim, he meekly lifted his empty hands besides his head. Needless to say, the gesture garnered puzzled stares.
“Wait, what?”
Richard nodded eagerly, donning the most charming smile he could, given the circumstances. “Indeed. You got me fair and square, see. So I surrender.” His honeyed words were spoken with haste, as if he was scared to draw a breath. Well... Maybe he was.
Finally, the armed assailants lowered their weapons. One scratched the back of his white cap, muttering beneath his breath in mild disbelief. Perhaps even disappointment. “O-oh... Okay... That was easier than expected...” A snarkier marine, on the other hand, mused that this was pretty much exactly as easy as he expected.
While one of the fine heroes started going through his pockets for a pair of cuffs, the others huddled together to whisper. They still didn't quite believe this. Was this guy really worth that bounty? One reminded the others that it could’ve been just because of all the damage caused by that plague incident.
Meanwhile, Richard’s expression soured. He averted his gaze with a toothy frown, mumbling bitterly. “Why is that the story everybody shares...?” His sly hand carefully swept the ground beside him. “You work as a doctor for twenty years and nobody remembers, but you accidentally unleash ONE plague...” Searching, searching... And finding something handy.
See, the human body was a shoddily constructed, little thing... It had several weak points, highly susceptible to even the tiniest injury. No amount of training could change that. You couldn’t harden your kidneys, diaphragm... Or arteries.
With the deceptive swiftness of a biting rat, the criminal suddenly sprung up and lunged at the closest soldier. Glass gleamed in his grasp. A spurt of blood was followed by a pained shriek. As the poor victim recoiled, the assailant helped him along... By shoving him right into his buddies.
Rather than stick around and fight though, the coward immediately legged it. Glimmering glass shards fell from his clothing. The bloodied spots left behind had already stopped trickling. Thanks to the chemical cocktail coursing through his veins, he healed quicker than the average crook. A lot quicker.
Camaraderie was strong among the startled soldiers. Instead of giving chase, they immediately went to help their friend. One dashed off to drag the medic over here, while another sprung for the door. “Sir!” He shouted into the hall...
...Only for the Lieutenant to burst through another window and land onto the yard.
Inside, the butler audibly groaned. “We have a door, good sir... Please use it...” His lament went largely unnoticed, as the confused crowd was focused on the growling beast chasing seemingly nothing.

Having a drooling, snarling beast on your heels was certainly a good motivation to work off the donuts that Aya had so eagerly treated herself to earlier. That being said, the number of locked doors she had encountered in this lavish hallway was starting to feel like some sort of cruel joke. The mink knocked over expensive vases and potted plants alike, trying to put anything she could in between her and the four-legged hunting machine panting after her.
When the hall took a turn, she was left facing another door.
"...Please..."
The handle turned in the panda's grip.
"...Yes!!"
The door swung open and revealed the safety of... A very much already occupied closet, and two lesser minks in a champagne-fueled and luckily coat-obscured amorous entwine. They, on the other hand, were faced with an empty doorway and fast approaching, ferocious, open maw of snapping teeth and terrible barks.
"O-oh, S-sorry.."
Pikasso was about to shut the door out of sheer politeness but hesitated as she realized the pooch had just noticed the end of the hall was fast approaching. His claws skidded over the shiny tiled floor of the hall, legs now working desperately to slow the hulking canine's momentum.
"...Really sorry, actually."
With a little sidestep from the mink and a duet of screams, the massive hound slid into the closet and crashed into the duo with a series of confused shouts. Without hesitation, Aya slammed the door shut and turned tail. The problem wasn't completely dealt with. She could already hear hands trying and failing to find a way to open the door in the dark while trying to avoid the confused canine.
The dash back towards the stairs was a quick one as Pikasso shoved past the few lesser minks that had begun the terrifying ascent to see just what sort of horrors were causing the cacophony of screams and barking.
A turn into a room she hadn't yet stepped foot in revealed a large, ornate den. Untouched books lined the walls surrounding dark-wood furniture all arranged in front of a large fireplace. Why one would need a fireplace in a place like this was beyond her, but the room also had something far more attention-catching for the mink.
A plan was quickly hatching in the young woman's scrambled thoughts.
Looming in one corner stood a massive, hulking bear with a permanent vicious snarl pulling at its lips. Its glass eyes glimmered, as did Aya's.
With a bright sneer and the sounds of Marshmallow bowling through guests to try to track down the frustrating evasive prey looming ever closer, the little panda began her climb of the gargantuan taxidermy trophy. To prepare for her foe's arrival she perched between the heavy stuffed animal and the wall behind it, poised to put everything she had into one swift motion.
She just hoped she'd be strong enough to pull it off.

Gaudy garden gnomes and lawn ornaments were a mere blur at the edge of Richard’s vision, as he sprinted across the yard on wings of desperation. Somewhere in the depths of his mind, he found a moment to curse the kind of person who thought bigger was better. This thing was a nightmare to landscape and escape.
It felt like running in a dream. The edge of the hedge didn’t seem to approach at all. Worse yet, all of a sudden a grim shadow appeared over the rat, like the silhouette of a hunting owl drawn against the moon. He barely had time to make the mistake, to glance over his shoulder. A muttered curse got stuck in his throat.
Reminiscent of a white and blue cannonball, the Lieutenant came crashing down. His powerful elbow dug into the target’s back with a chorus of cracks. The impeccable green lawn was torn asunder on impact. A pink, plastic bird was an unfortunate casualty.
As the dust settled, the marine picked himself up without so much as a straw of grass on him. Even dirt failed to latch onto him, as if his uniform was shielded by an unseen armor. [npc=navy]“Richard Maxwell.”[/npc] He spoke with the cold confidence of a champion. [npc=navy]“If you are still conscious, you are under arrest. You will no longer be able to run. Or walk for... that... matter...”[/npc] His confidence wavered and the flow of words dried up.
Slowly...
Shakily...
The living lump of dirt and grass stood up again. [ass=The PoV is a bit confused here. It's why it's generally best to stay locked to a single character's PoV (especially within a single scene or post.]Pain radiated down his back, to his very toes... Briefly, the two fighters stared at each other in shared disbelief. Neither side was quite sure what had just happened. By all rights, this should have been the end...
The Lieutenant was the first to regain his composure. [npc=navy]“I see... So this is why you have your bounty.”[/npc] Arms spread and open palms facing the foe, he took a stance resembling a wrestler. [npc=navy]“No longer will I underestima-hurkh?!”[/npc] So much for that claim.
Moving like a man possessed, the slippery rat closed the distance. He shoved a large clump of dirt and grass down the opponent’s open mouth. It may have not done any damage, but it certainly sent the foe reeling.
While the hunter was trying to cough out the choking hazard, the prey beelined for the hedge. Skidding several dozen feet along the grass had certainly brought it closer. Flailing vigorously, he burst through the leafy barrier and scaled the iron fence behind it.
Pure adrenaline fueled the criminal’s thoughts. Suitcase. Needed the suitcase. Then run into town. Vanish in the alleyways. Good plan. Best plan. Or so he repeatedly assured himself anyway.
Naturally, the crook hadn’t forgotten his partner in crime either. Of course not! In fact, he gave her existence exactly one thought... It was the faint hope that she wouldn’t show up and he might keep her share as well. The money weighed oh so heavily in his pocket.
Unfortunately for the greedy rat, Lady Luck heard his prayers...
And she had different plans.

"...Heeeere, dog!! "
A shrill whistle found its audience in the still slightly frazzled beast trying frantically to catch back onto the trail of its prey. The hound's monstrous head lifted, and Marshmallow's ears trained on the invisible guide to the mink.
"...That's right, stupid! Come on!..." Though hidden from view, Aya was contorted uncomfortably between the wall and the musty wall of fur that her back was poised against as she put her weight on the back of the trophy. Though she couldn't see the rest of the room like this, the drool-soaked snarling and determined sniffing were getting louder by the moment.
The dog's huffing-and-puffing frame slowed as he turned into the den. The dust and 'charm' of this room made the trained tracker sneeze, but this was just a slightly murkier barrel of fish to catch. Aya's heart felt all too loud as it pounded in her chest and she dared to glance backward.
"Time for one last hunt, big guy, don't... let me down!"
Just as the dog was snuffling nose-down around the base of the trophy and sending dust bunnies scattering around its feet, the mink struck. As she extended her legs the bear's weight shifted and caused it to lurch forward.
Or rather, tip forward.
With its great paws extended and claws raised for one more downward swipe with gravity's aide, a yelp rang out as the navy-trained dog was caught in its grasp. Aya squeaked with surprise as she somersaulted backward over the head of the Ursidae. With a gracefully stuck landing, she was now standing facing the toppled taxidermy as it lay face down across the still-growling canine. Despite his desperate thrashing, Marshmallow seemed thoroughly stuck. He quickly took to chewing the bear's worn old fur in frustration.
" Kiiii-pi-pi...! Tah-tah, poochy!"
With a victorious bounce in her step and with the happy knowledge that she was free from the chase, Aya turned her attention to the large windows to one side of the room. Clear little paws unlatched the two panes, throwing them open as the mink climbed up onto the sill and took a glance across the yard. The fluttering of her dress in the night air could be heard but not seen.
And like clockwork, the red panda's luck shone through once more.
Keen eyes caught sight of a rat scrambling over the top of the perimeter fence. Another smile snuck onto her lips as she scampered down from the window and into the yard after him.
A short dash brought the agile little mink into the hedges, which she rustled through with giddy excitement. Her claws hooked into the chain links as she lifted herself to start the climb. Her eyes narrowed as she set sights on her fleeing 'friend' once more.
"... Waiting for me on the other side... right, Mister Maxwell..?" The ghostly presence seemed unwilling to let the lesser mink be free of her haunting, the rattling of the metal fence marking her ascent to the top. In a sure-footed leap, she dropped into view on the other side, long enough to shoot Richard a sharp-toothed, expectant grin.
"Youteia wouldn't leave without saying 'goodbye', would you?"

Suitcase. Got the suitcase. The frightened rat was shedding his disguise rapidly, revealing the sweat-stained dress shirt beneath. His hands scrambled for the locks of his trusty friend. A couple of clicks later, he got his arsenal back, along with his usual jacket.
A sudden voice made Richard recoile with a strangled yelp. “Gah!” He staggered a couple of steps away from the grinning phantom, clutching his chest weakly. “Goodness, you sca-hem, startled me. Need to put a bell on you...” He muttered beneath his breath, trying to scrape his shattered nerves back into a tidy pile.
Then the question properly sank in and the crook struggled to find a smile. Along with an excuse. “Errr... Nnnooo, of course not! In fact, I was just waiting for you!” He lied through his sharp teeth. “And now you’re here. Safe and sound.” Slowly, carefully, step by step, he inched away from the girl. “Soooo... Goodbye!”
Before the rat could turn tail, however, another silhouette came flying over the fence like a boulder from a trebuchet. It landed right in front of him, cutting off the escape routes drastically. “Eep.” With a fearful squeak, he reflexively stabbed both hands into his deep pockets and rummaged furiously. Come on, come on...! Which ones...?!
[npc=navy]“Stop right there, criminal scum!”[/npc]
The Lieutenant lunged, but his attention was stolen by a glint of glass suddenly sailing across the air. A vial sloshing with suspiciously murky liquid threatened to fly over the hedge. Going after it would leave no time for pursuit... In a split-second, he made his choice.
Just before the vial could hit the ground, the brave marine closed the distance. Sliding along the grass, he snatched the weapon from the air before it could shatter. If there had been a crowd, it would’ve gone wild from the perfect catch.
Unfortunately, another glint drifted just past his head... And clashed against the tough ground. His eyes widened. It felt like time itself slowed down to watch the tragedy. Orange liquid flared into a massive explosion, swallowing the man and a good portion of the hedge.
Richard shielded his face with the suitcase, staggering from the shockwave. Burning liquid splattered against the grass at his feet, setting it ablaze. As he dared to peek at the results, he froze. From the inferno emerged a figure grim like the reaper himself.
With a panicked shriek, the rat spun around and ran for dear life. For someone lugging around a huge suitcase, he was surprisingly swift on his feet. If Aya gawked for too long, she would be left biting his dust.
Meanwhile, the blackened figure’s glare narrowed. He glanced around, considering his choices. [npc=navy]“Hrm...”[/npc] Without wasting another moment, he bellowed a mighty command. [npc=navy]“Men! Get buckets and shovels! Put out the flames! Evacuate the building!”[/npc] The safety of the guests came first.
However, the hunter glanced down at his hand. A glass vial glinted in the moonlight, a vial that had been in the criminal’s possession. His grip tightened, clutching the crucial clue in his grasp. This hunt was not over... Merely postponed.
Down the trail towards the town, the rat finally slowed down to a scampering jog. His dash all the way over here had been undoubtedly superhuman. He was a credit to his race. Namely, the hundred yard dash.
Upon reaching the first brick wall at the edge of the town, the crook took the chance to stop and catch his wheezing breath. All these near-death experiences were bad for his health... He thought, while digging into his pocket for a carton of smokes.
Richard took a cheap cigarette between his lips and continued rummaging through his pockets. Now where was his lighter again...? His hands hit a thick stack that didn’t feel familiar. He pulled out the payment for the exorcism. It did bring a smile to his face, but didn’t quite spark his smoky vice.

"You're not the first person to suggest a bell, and you certainly won't be the last person I have to explain it to... That sort of defeats the purpose of this, no?"
Aya's icy gaze was stuck fast on the rat and his subtle distancing from the problem of a rather diligent runty collector. One cream-colored brow rose slowly, her maw pursed into an unamused pout as she crossed her arms.
Before she had the time to parse out whether it was really worth it to give chase, she was suddenly taken aback by the reappearance of the bulky marine. She pulled back, fading out of view as she watched Richard frantically search for a solution to this recurring problem of a man.
The scrambling and series of split-second decision-making between the two men was hard to track. Glass flew, liquid sloshed, and feet fought against the oppressive wiles of the laws of physics. Though fully transparent, the way the mink had her hands clasped apprehensively over her mouth made it seem like she had just seen a ghost herself. Backpedaling away from the scene was the best she could do while so unable to pull her gaze away from the unfolding chaos.
The move only put a bit more distance between her and the resulting explosion. Her slicked fur lost its poise and the runt fluffed up substantially in the aftershock as she put her arms up to shield herself.
She had to wonder what was it about her recent choices in company that left her this close to explosions so often lately.
When she dared to move from her braced position her sensitive ears were ringing. The garbled world around her sounded like it was under meters of water, but the sound of movement still remained recognizable in the daze. Aya's eyes focused on the figure now making a hasty escape. A little shake of her head brought enough clarity for her to follow after.
"...H-hey! You jerk, get back here!"
The red panda found herself once more trying to hunt the rat down. Even with a mink's natural agility, it was hard to keep sight of the fleeing fiend. Luckily, it seemed this was more of a sprint than a marathon. As her prey slowed, so did the tiny huntress.
Quiet steps brought the slinky sneak close, and a snap of her claws brought the flash of a bright spark to the end of Richard's cigarette...
And illuminated the face of a now-visible and still slightly fluffed Aya.
"...Boo."
A sly smile crept across her dark lips as she leaned back away from his lit smoke.
"...You shouldn't be so forgetful, Mister Maxwell! You don't want Mushiba to hear youteia ran off without paying me for all my hard work, do you? Especially after all that... youteia could have singed me!"
Aya pouted as she slicked the fluff of her cheeks down with her paws, then held the empty pads of her palms out in front of him.
"...I'm doing you a favor by following up on this, you know. I don't like holding grudges... but I can't promise that others feel quite the same. Besides, you never know when I might be around again... That first dash was free, but don't expect the same sort of luxury if you make a habit of trying to stiff me. "
The little panda blew a few strands of crimson hair away from her face. "That's not the sort of thing that keeps people friendly and who knows when a guy like youteia might need a friend!"
Aya shrugged as she waited for her pay, head cocked expectantly to one side.

Before the crook could find his lighter, a helpful spark in the dark lit his vice. “Oh thank-GAH!” His polite reflex was cut short by the startling realization. Coughing and sputtering gray haze, he recoiled away from the miffed mink.
Backed against the brick wall, the rat clutched his chest, trying to keep his heart from pounding through. Call him paranoid, but he was starting to think the mischievous girl was scaring him on purpose. What had he done to deserve this? ...A rhetorical question, no need to answer.
Listening to Aya’s reasoning, Richard mulled over his options. He could simply pay up and hold his end of the deal. Alternatively, he could risk the wrath of Mushiba and his mink assassin... And for what? A fat stack of Berries? Okay, there was only one option here. He just needed a moment to convince himself it was the first one.
...Well, she did make a fair point, he needed friends.
The entrepreneur let out a hazy sigh, his shoulders slumping in defeat. “Fine, fine... A deal’s a deal.” This whole hustle would’ve been impossible without her contribution. He started counting through the bills with the swiftness of a seasoned dealer. Hundred thousand, two hundred, three hundred... His nimble fingers moved like clockwork.
Splitting the stack evenly, the greedy rat hesitated briefly. A bubble of imagination formed above his head. It painted a vivid image of his hard-earned money growing wings and flying away, while a shady critter cackled madly in the background. Painfully vivid.
Reluctantly, the sharp-dressed crook pushed one half into the open paw. “A fair split, just like we agreed.” As he let go, he felt himself die a little inside. “A pleasure doing business with you, friend.” And it certainly showed in his hollow gaze, which was still focused on the money.
Richard pushed the pain of parting down to the bottom of his mind, much like he stuffed his cut into his pocket. He could respect a fellow entrepreneur who knew how to hustle. Furthermore, having her as a friend was far more profitable than having her as an enemy... Not to mention easier on his poor heart.
The gentleman adjusted his tie and glanced around nervously. No search parties... Yet. “Now, as much as I would love to stick around and chat...” He was already back to his polite lies, a force of habit, really. “...I believe it’s best to split up and lay low for a while. Until the heat dies down, see.” He carefully snuck past the intimidating girl.
“So, with our... business... concluded, I bid you goodnight.”
However, after a couple of paces, the rat stopped at the entrance of a murky alleyway. “Oh and if you happen to see Mushiba...” He glanced over his shoulder. “...Could you not mention what happened tonight? He doesn’t need to be bothered with measly minor details, right? Right...” With that mutter, his silhouette vanished into the shadows.
It had been a profitable night for both parties involved. Sure, there may have been some setbacks, but no plan ever survives first contact. Fortunately for the two hustlers, it had all worked out in the end. No loose ends remained to bring them back together sooner than either of them might expect... Right?
Right...

Watching the lesser mink's expression turn to shock as if he had been subject to the spark's sting only made Aya snicker.
"See... I knew youteia were a smart man, Mister Maxwell! You won't regret this!" The quiet sing-song tones of Aya's voice carried on the night's breeze as she looked expectantly between Richard and the money in his gloved hands.
As her claws wrapped around the bills, Pikasso's sparkling baby blues peered excitedly down at her new profits, her dark lenses sliding down her nose. After a moment of admiration, she carefully tucked the cash into the bodice of her dress.
High above, the crescent moon glimmered from behind rolling swatches of cloud.
"....It's a beautiful night... " Aya stated with quiet reverence. She side-stepped to turn her back to the wall as the rat scurried past her. She sat with her head tilted and her shoulders to the brick as she tracked his polite but obviously avoidant steps. Another spark of electro lit her smoke.
" ... I do hope youteia stay out of too much more trouble while you're around Notice, Mister Maxwell." She tutted with a smile, spicy-smelling smoke spiraling from her dark nose as she gave a soft exhale. "I'd hate to get sent out to have to find you again."
"... When I get back, I'm sure he'd love to hear all about it." The teasing lilt to her voice perfectly complimented the sly smirk she was wearing. " But don't worry... I'm sure Mushiba is too busy with more important things to care about a little night out at a party, hm?"
Ash fell from her clove cigarette and with a little wave towards the fading shape of the scurrying rat the little mink faded from view. After a few moments of silence that left her feeling morose in the wake of a goodbye, words poured from a seemingly sourceless puff of smoke.
"... Don't be a stranger, Mister Maxwell! I'll see youteia again soon!"
The red panda's giggles trailed off into the distance as she took off into the night, a delighted spring in her step from the excitement of a successful endeavor.

- Overall:
As I expected, this was a master class in funanigans wrapped inside a single episode.
If there was one overall suggestion that I would add, it's that you consider compacting some of the longer scenes. The detail is appreciated, but it can occasionally slow down the story too much. Shortening some scenes would allow you to pack more scenes into a single episode. This applies to this episode especially because I think the story could've benefitted from more scenes leading up to the party and the big finale.
Off the top of my head, I could think of at least one initial scene where Maxwell picks up information regarding the opportunity capitalized on in the scam.
For Aya, that time could've been used to show off the more naive side of her personality (perhaps by having her interact with some of her new crewmates - it would've been an opportunity to give them some character development as well; always think long term!). If I understand correctly, Aya is supposed to be fairly new to dealing with lesser minks at the time of this episode. However, with the ease and playfulness that she toyed with Maxwell from the very start (barring one or two brief moments), it seemed she was a veteran at dealing with both humans and rats.
But, a few minor critical observations aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the first encounter and joint venture starring Richard Maxwell and Aya Ruiz.
