Equipment Description: Sengo Muramasa was a sword maker of some renown from a time in Wano Kuni’s distant past, he produced blades known for both their quality, and the curse that followed them: their need to feast upon blood before returning to their scabbard.

In more recent times an unknown swordsmith took seven of these cursed swords and fused them into one, each piece of the weapon’s steel was wielded by a warlord, rōnin, or a violent criminal that had furthered their weapons’ reputations as instruments of mayhem and bloodshed. The reason for this undertaking is as mysterious as its creator, but one person who survived the events that followed can attest to the “ritual” that the smithing involved, and the resulting carnage of the weapon’s first wielding.

This elderly man, only a boy at the time that his village was sacrificed, witnessed much of the event firsthand; the creation of the crucible was an act of slaughter in itself, seventy travelers had been gathered at the site and each blade was permitted to feast upon ten of them, a single rōnin spared their final victim choosing to fall upon his own sword rather than kill the child to complete the ritual. The blood of the massacre, the executioners, and even the smithy were eventually fed to the forge, and to the metal of the weapon; the blade was drawn forth from the steel, a natural hamon emerged from boiled blood-residue forming the pattern of wailing souls, each of their agonized faces preserved like an insect within amber.

Once the steel was quenched, and the “ceremonial sword” fitted, the weapon, 444 centimeters in length, and weighing 77 kilograms– was finished by its creator, threw himself upon his creation’s  point so that it could be sheathed. He, and his seven samurai, had given their lives in service of what they believed to be a higher power.

Three times would the sacrificial lamb be pardoned, once by the rōnin, again by the smithy, and finally by an enormous mountain of an Oni; though perhaps being “pardoned” was putting it generously, moreso, the boy was made to bear witness to the weapon’s first rampage.

The boy’s village was destroyed, the weapon’s inaugural feast of blood was a gluttonous and gratuitous atrocity.

Years later, the blade was found by the Witch of the Iron Scissors during her travels; and was eventually returned to a cottage in Flevance, where it had sat ominously hibernating above a fireplace up until recently.

The Witch’s daughter, and her husband Nikolas Kringle, were given this instruction by a holy man from the land of Wano: should a young Oni ever come to their island, they were to be given the weapon. At the time that its new wielder inherited it, the steel of the Muramasa-no-Kusanagi had killed a combined total of 7,777 people.
