Yugo was happy that the Kamaitachi didn't desire to kill him that moment and instead chose to at the very least give him a chance to prove himself. Yugo had to agree that actions speak louder than words, though he didn't think the wind deity would be fine with him helping with their problem. The young shinobi guard was blown backwards as the jet black yokai rode the currents to pursue the crooks. "H-hey wait! Yokai-sama-" he would try to say something before skidding backwards. Thankfully, the smooth rubber soles of his tabi boots provided more than enough friction with the ground to stop his momentum. "...I can't fly..." he would conclude his phrase.
Thinking fast, the shinobi instead elected to use his old training to keep up with the self proclaimed samurai. He would find the nearest climbing surface and quickly ascend to the rooftops. His new body granted him a great deal of mobility and fluidity to his motion, though he would have to keep his powers on the down low. In his time on the island, he had researched just what kind of fruit he had ingested. He hadn't got specifics but based on what he could do he had turned into a Logia type devil fruit user. If the texts were to be believed, there were three kind of fruits that gave special powers on consumption and the powers he had seemed to align with possibly the rarest type of them all.
Yugo deftly moved among the rooftops, watching as the weasel soared further away before plunging down below. The speed difference between the two was astounding. He couldn't possibly outrun the Yokai if it thought to pursue him and it certainly would start looking for him if he tried to run away now. One way or the other his hands were tied, he had to see this through to the end before he would actually be falsely accused.
Dropping down from the roof, the ninja frontflipped in the air to land on his feet. Looking down he could see that the wind yokai had already knocked out one of the perpetrator and was ready to pounce on another. Realizing he would probably only be a nuisance if he tried to fight alongside the mythical beast, Yugo elected instead to assume a more supportive role. He would quickly roll off the fall and dash towards the group. Sliding in from the left, he would conjure a wakizashi by imagining to be holding a weapon and letting the power within his body to manifest unimpeded. A blob of mercury would manifest and harden into the selected shape, which would then be used to block the first attack aimed at the Yokai's back.
"Yokai-sama! I'm dealing with this one, worry about the others." He quickly stated, kicking the guy further back so that he could properly engage and let the wind weasel have enough space between them to not worry about bumping into eachother.

Riding the whirlwind, Yumiko quickly closed the distance. She spotted the shinobi climbing onto the rooftops to give chase as well. It was starting to seem he had spoken the truth... Her predatory gaze shifted onto the fleeing prey. She brought her arms close to her body and dipped downwards...
Meanwhile, the buddies of the fallen criminal came to a screeching halt. “Grabby! No!” Their greasy leader cried out. He shot a commanding glare at his underlings. “Help him out, ya dopes!” Said dopes promptly hurried to assist their friend against the menacing granny.
Only to be intercepted by a furry missile.
Yumiko pounced on the criminals for a violent double takedown. Something cracked on impact and it wasn’t just the pavement. Her prey yelped like a pair of rats beneath her sharp claws. “Fuckin’ ow!” They wailed in unison, clutching their bleeding chests.
The sight was enough to leave the rest of the goons hesitating. “Man, that raccoon is pissed...” Someone muttered, garnering agreeing murmurs. However, their leader was far from done. “Right, dat does it! Dere’s one o’ ‘im and five o’ us! Get ‘im, boys!” He whipped out a switchblade and led the charge. After a second of hesitation, the others followed the example.
In full transformation, the mythical weasel was a big target. She knew that far too well. Unfortunately, she had her claws full with pinning down the two targets. Despite their injuries, they were squirming with desperation. Nothing was as unpredictable and dangerous as wounded prey...
Just when the warrior braced herself for the attack, the incoming switchblade clashed against metal instead. Surprise shone on her beastly features. The shinobi had joined the fight, bravely challenging the man calling the shots. Her eyes swept over the charging foes. She growled a single word.
“Duck.”
When the criminals caught the command, the reaction was... mixed. “What?” One asked, unsure if he heard that right. “Why?” Another scoffed, not keen on taking orders. “Where?” The third one wondered eagerly.
Without further warning, the weasel whirled around, whipping her sharp tail in a wide circle. Like a reaping scythe, it slashed at the unlucky goons. Streaks of blood and shreds of leather scattered into the wind.

The shinobi wouldn't have the weasel repeat itself. The young logia user would drop like a potato sack and kiss the dirt like if it was the most beautiful lady in the world. It was a good thing he did, because he would have gotten beheaded otherwise. The tail flick from the yokai was so incredibly quick he was so grateful he had been given prior warning.
He would scramble back up, back to back with the weasel, and morph the blade in his hand back into a blob and then into a ring. Said ring was promptly launched at the first approaching bad guy, hopefully latching onto the perpetrator's wrist like a cuff and pull them off balance with its surprisingly heavy weight. The Yokai would be able to take it from there. They were outnumbered but not outmatched. The wind deity clearly had powers and lethality to spare while he had his techniques and his new powers at the ready.
Yugo really had little time to contemplate the fact he was really fighting alongside a wind weasel, the surreal feeling immediately freezing over into slight panic as he saw the real gang boss come at him and swing with a switch knife again. One of the enemy's motions was deftly if barely avoided, while the other grazed his chest. Thankfully, the leather armor covering his most vital organs was more than sturdy enough to prevent a nasty wound.
He was thus momentarily locked into a scuffle with the big guy, traing blow for blow close quarters while trying to not overdo it. He could probably not worry about wounds considering his fruit's power did allow him to not only manipulate but also be mercury. Still, he did not wish to show his hand at present moment. He did not know if the Yokai would go for him next, thus he wanted to keep his virtual intangibility card for when he really needed it.

As the scythe of wind reaped the criminal ranks, only their greasy boss was left standing. He looked around, stunned and trembling. A good leader could adapt to the flow of a fight. They could see when their troops were outmatched and adjust their plans accordingly.
Like right about now.
Watching things go south faster than a merchant ship in tailwind, the crook pondered why he was even doing this. Why had he gone back to help his fallen comrade? And why did he continue to stand against two goddamn monsters? Well, it didn’t really matter anymore... What mattered was having a plan B. His gaze drifted onto his squirming pals. They couldn’t really fight anymore... And if they all tried to run, they would get caught immediately.
Only one option left.
Without a hint of hesitation, the gang leader took a deep breath and stomped the ground. “Fuckin’ scatter!” He waved the blade furiously, gesturing all around him. “Run and hide at da spot! I’ll hold ‘em off!” His commanding voice echoed across the entire street.
Naturally, the order was met with some hesitation. “But boss-!” However, the steadfast leader wouldn’t hear any of it. “Dat’s an order!” His tattered leather jacket billowed in the wind. Sunlight danced around his proud figure. He glanced over his shoulder, revealing a teary-eyed smile and a thumbs up.
“I’ll... catch up.”
Tears and snot started flowing, as the thugs sobbed in unison. “S-sniff... B-boss...!” Their tearful farewell was cut short. “Now go! Move it, ya dumb schmucks!!!” They didn’t need to be told twice, scampering onto their feet and scurrying towards different alleyways.
Only the leader remained behind. His smile sharpened, as he brandished his weapon “Come on, den... Let’s dance, baby!” Screaming from the top of his lungs, he charged.
Meanwhile, Yumiko stood still, with her claws crossed. One did not interrupt a warrior’s dramatic speech, whether it be friend or foe. In fact, she was most impressed by the camaraderie these criminals shared.
With surprising agility, the monstrous weasel leapt back. “I shall leave this duel to thee, Sir Shinobi.” Whirling winds intensified, launching her into the air once again. Indeed, she had no right nor intention to interfere in a fight between two warriors. It would’ve been most dishonorable.

"Yield." He growled at the charging enemy, ducking under the swing and then give a few paces of space between him and the perpetrator. "I won't say that again." He would soon add after the supposed bossman didn't stop attacking. He was taken aback by the Yokai taking to the skies again, mostly to follow and capture the fleeing stragglers, but he couldn't dedicate much attention to other things since there was still one pissed off dude that really did want him dead at this point.
The fight would drag on on for a little while, neither side gaining over the other, but slightly favoring Yugo's more speedy and fluid fighting style. The only problem keeping all of his technique at bay was the overwhelming power behind the bar fight style of the Smart Fella. The big guy was clearly stronger than him, continuously slugging him left and right. Yugo would sidestep the next knife swipe and deliver a sweep right at the guy's legs. Sadly, the young ninja would fail at toppling over the goliath, as the man was just able to resist Yugo's attack. The knife was lobbed at him and Yugo just managed to escape getting it plunged into his neck by slapping the man's arm out of trajectory.
Seeing as there was no one there anymore and all the people had fled, with the yokai occupied too, Yugo began thinking if it was the time to use the other side of his special powers. So far he had only made it look like he could create weapons, as one would guess a normal devil fruit could do, but he wondered if he should actually push himself a little more, just so he could break past the weird stalemate he was in and get the KO on the guy. For the moment, he elected against it. He was supposed to capture this alive as part of proving himself to the wind yokai and he did not want to create a witness. It looked like he would have to fight smart and find a more creative way to get the guy to go down.

Leaving the two duelists to fight it out, the hunter took to the sky again. Her nose twitched, following trails eyes couldn’t see. Blood, sweat... Fear... Her prey had scattered in all directions, scurrying through the maze of alleys as fast as their wounded legs could carry.
Not fast enough.
A wild chase ensued through the streets and even across the nearby beach. Panicked shouts and violent gusts dotted the landscape. Occasionally, a black blur zoomed over the rooftops, followed by a chilling gale. Fortunately, most civilians had fled indoors, away from the localized storm.
Sharp ears could approximately guess how the hunt was going, judging by the screams. “No, nonono! Gyaaaah!” Granted, some of them sounded more irritated than afraid. “Ow! He fuckin’ bit me!” But no amount of pleading... “Not the face, nottheface!” Or bargaining... “I surrend-geho!” Stopped the hunter from silencing the voices, one by one.
Before long, the monstrous weasel returned to the scene of the duel. Two of the escapees were out cold on her back like beaten saddlebags. The third hung from her tail, clutching on for dear life. Finally, the fourth she carried in her teeth, like an unruly kit dangled by the scruff.
With a swift shake, the hunter unceremoniously dropped her prey onto the pavement. The painful thuds were accompanied by pained groans. Ignoring their whining, she rose onto her hind legs. Deftly she fished the small snail from her sleeve, holding it gingerly on the flat side of her claw.
One press of a button and two rings later, a dry, raspy voice answered. “Hello? Captain Oldgeyser speaking.” The hunter kept it brief and professional. “I have captured the targets. Dockside main street, before the market.” The other end shared a similar sentiment. “Understood. I’m sending the collection team. Oldgeyser out.” With the usual, distinct click, the snail continued its nap.
Yumiko slipped the phone back into her clothing. Her icy gaze shifted sharply onto the shinobi. Without a word, she slowly stalked closer. She wouldn’t stop until she either loomed right in front of him, or had him trapped against the wall.

Yugo was about finished with the big guy, turns out that once you get some heavy shackles onto the guy it was going to be hard for him to attack the shinobi. One swift kick in the nuts, a followup to the chest and the bad guy was sent into a wall, where he slumped down no longer able to continue fighting and most certainly unable to stand up.
Dropping down on a three point stance, Yugo breathed heavily. The confrontation took a good lot out of him. He had just discovered that creating all that mercury was kind of straining. He should be way more careful with doing it. It would all be easier if he could just use his powers the way they were meant to, but he still wasn't sure it was worth it to let the news spread. Standing back up a little tattered, his ears heard something drop behind him. Turning around still half winded, his purple orbs saw the familiar silhouette of the Yokai, approaching him. Despite his visage still going pale as he also took notice of the wounded people moaning on the floor, meaning that the wind deity pretty much effortlessly took out five whole people compared to the amount of effort he had to put in just to capture one, the shinobi of Hoshima island stood his ground.
He shrunk a bit as the weasel towered over him with a hard stare. "A-as I said earlier, Yokai-sama, I'm not your enemy." He repeated, his labored breathing finally calming down. "I...believe I did not introduce myself earlier, apologies. I-I'm Yugo, of the Shirogane clan." He sheepishly said, unable to keep eye contact and thus preferring to stare at the ground. "I-if you wish to detain me...I'll follow you willingly."

When the shinobi spoke, the samurai said nothing. She merely stood before him, still like a statue. Even the winds fell quiet. And she listened... The name was carefully carved into her memory. Her eyes narrowed. Even in this situation, he still... Nay, this would not stand!
Suddenly, the monstrous weasel dropped onto her paws and knees. Bowing down as deep as physically possible, she slammed her forehead against the pavement. “This one humbly offers the deepest of apologies!” Her dramatic declaration shattered the ominous silence.
Taking a deep breath, the samurai spoke sternly. “Thou truly are a warrior honest and true, yet I disgraced thy noble name with mine unfounded suspicion. Like a fool, I let these deceitful vipers poison mine mind with their masterful misdirection.” Her voice hissed with cold fury, like a whispering winter storm. She was absolutely furious with herself for repeating the very mistake she had sworn to avoid.
Meanwhile, the two goons still vaguely conscious shared a puzzled look. Masterful misdirection...? One mouthed a soundless question to the other. In turn, the other simply shrugged.
Yumiko raised her head tentatively. “However! I understand that ignorance does not excuse such shameful behavior!” Her black eyes burned with grim determination. “To atone for the grave dishonor I have brought upon thee, I shall cut open mine stomach!” It was, obviously, the most sensible solution. What else was she supposed to do to save the shinobi’s honor?
The weasel rose to sit on her knees. She grabbed the ominous sword hanging from her belt. The sharp steel gleamed, as she unsheathed it with surprising dexterity, despite the paws. While her claws were more than sharp enough, the ritual demanded a proper blade. With a deep breath, she gathered her focus...
Just as the sharp tip of the blade touched the samurai’s stomach, a realization stopped her in her tracks. “Ah, I nearly took mine life without properly introducing mineself...” Spending so much time among her crew had left her manners rusty. Again she bowed her head as deep as her lithe frame allowed. “Apologies for mine rudeness!” Which was incredibly deep, as it turned out. Weasels were flexible.
The warrior raised her head and puffed her chest. “Mine name is Kamaitachi no Yumiko! This one is a samurai!” While she had no clan to speak of, she hoped her epithet would suffice. “Pleased to make thy acquaintance.” She added with a polite nod.

"Oh sh-" Yugo jumped back stunned at the sudden drop from the weasel. He was clearly taken aback by the sudden 180. He didn't expect the weasel to go from all out assault to asking forgiveness. That was not something he imagined would happen after the dust settled. His concern soon shifted from not getting the angry weasel to kill him to not get the weasel get angry by her apparent shortcoming. He wasn't sure he would survive the lethal currents even when they weren't explicitly aimed at his person.
"That is okay, Yokai-sama. You acted the best you could despite the circumstances. It is only natural that you'd-" He was cut off as the weasel decided to commit seppuku right then and there, which had young Yugo's soul pretty much leave his body for a moment. Without even thinking he would move to grab the blade bare handed if he had to. He didn't care if the weasel was a samurai and the ritual couldn't be stopped even in the event of a pardon note. He was not a samurai, thus he had no obligation to follow the code, he wouldn't let someone die over a misunderstanding. Thus he acted on instinct to preserve a life.
He slid eye level with the yokai, noses one inch apart, his left forearm turning into pure shining mercury as he clutched the blade in an attempt to stop it from going through the kamaitachi without him getting his fingers cut off by the edge of the weapon. The weasel thankfully stopped itself from spilling its interiors on the pavement and elected to say its name instead, but by that point Yugo's secret was already out and his hand around the blade was already sizzling as the mercury his body was made of seeped into the small pores of the katana, attacking the structure of the high carbon steel and causing it to corrode the weapon thus turning it brittle. He probably put a little too much oomph on his grab, he wasn't at all able to control his powers yet...even more so for his full logia powers.
"Y-Yumiko-sama." He stated. "Thine honour remains pure and untainted. Please sheathe your...oh." Yugo realized he was squeezing the sword a little too hard, the metal underneath growing way too brittle he could probably snap it in half if he kept it up. "I uh..." he stuttered, releasing his hand from the weapon and grimacing at the awful mark left behind. He swallowed and nervously chuckled. "I uuh...gomen nasai t-these powers are new to me, I just...well I thought... hrm."
Closing his eyes for a moment and sighing. If he kept being scared he would only make things worse. He already caused the Yokai to almost off itself and then probably ruined its blade. "Yumiko-sama." He stated with a little more confidence, though elected to hid his mercury hand behind his back until he figured out how to un-mercury the thing. He sat on his knees in front of the black furred weasel. "What I am trying to say is...what happened is no fault of yours. I should have made mine intentions clearer and peerless without doubt, but the sight of your legendary form shook me, for I had no idea Yokai existed and was scared for my life. Never would I have thought I would see a beast of legend in the flesh, let alone speak and know their name." Yugo concluded, looking back down at the Kamaitachi's blade.
"I have been lost to sea for three days with nothing but a weird awful tasting fruit with swirls to sustain me. Upon washing up on the shores of this island by fate or luck, I was rescued. My permanence here taught me the foul thing is both boon and curse. I may be able to...flow like mercury as you have seen, but the sea now is mine sworn enemy. I apologize for ruining your blade, a samurai's most prized possession, I will make up for it but I must stress: you need not to offer your life to me in atonement, for no dishonour was given upon my name."

Much to the warrior’s immediate confusion, the shinobi suddenly rushed to grab her blade. That was dangerous, he would hurt himself! Even more alarmingly, his hand bled silver instead of crimson. Nay, rather than bleed, it seemed to turn entirely into flowing, liquid metal. Was it... supposed to do that...?
However, before the samurai could voice any of these concerns, something unthinkable happened. The blade in her grasp had grown a discolored splotch, like some manner of disease, in the shape of the boy’s grip. When she ran her claw across the mark curiously... The brittle blade snapped in two. It hit the pavement with a hollow clatter. In the wake of the suffocating silence, even a pin drop would’ve sounded deafening.
Seemingly frozen in the moment, eyes wide like dinner plates, the weasel said nothing to the boy’s torrent of words. It was hard to say how much the explanation registered... If any of it... She could’ve passed for a statue, stiff and lifeless.
Suddenly, Yumiko’s dark fur bristled sharply. “Defiling a samurai’s blade is the gravest insult imaginable...” She snarled through gritted teeth. “A crime far beyond forgiveness...” With each hissing breath, whirling winds whipped up dust.
“...Most fortunate that this is not mine blade.”
The tension popped like a soap bubble.
Of course, the swordswoman was appalled at the fate of the poor sword, but she knew only the most fortunate got to choose their final resting place. “‘Tis a weapon I confiscated from a foul criminal.” Gently she set it down, closed her eyes and clasped her claws together, as if in prayer. “May it find peace at last.” She held a moment of silence in honor of the brave, broken blade.
Once the moment passed, the weasel opened her eyes and peered curiously at the strange shinobi. She mulled over his unusual tale. Especially the part about how he didn’t want her life. “...If thou sayeth so.” She eventually relented, still unsure if he even knew what he was saying.
Yumiko folded her paws, instinctively careful of the long claws, and cocked her head pensively. “Hm, so thou carry a curse as well... Along with the weakness to the seas... Yet thy form is not one of the animal kingdom...” She mused idly. Her scythe-tipped tail swished back and forth in a calm rhythm. “Thou are a strange one indeed, Sir Yugo of the Shirogane Clan.” The overly honest pot bluntly declared to the kettle.

"I could say the same about you, Yumiko-sama." Yugo replied with a sheepish smile, before nodding once more. "I am certain. Your life is precious, please take good care of it for your sake and the sake of the people you most hold dear. Though if you may allow one thing..." He raised his normal hand up and very gently booped the vicious' kamaitachi's nose. A touch so light he almost didn't make contact. "You seem to be knowledgeable about this...curse we share, not to mention the place. I am quite in a predicament, thus I would ask thine help in finding a place to stay and occupation while I labour to return home."
He leaned to the side to keep an eye on the groaning captives behind them both, before turning back to the yokai to address them again. In the shape they were in, they weren't going anywhere any time soon. Once more, he was impressed by just how much power the being in front of him held...and he was just making idle chitchat with them. It was crazy just how easy it was for the Kamaitachi to switch from murder mode to happy go lucky weasel mode. In truth though...he quite liked the bubbly personality the wind deity seemed to have on the regular. "You seem to be working a dangerous job, Yumiko-sama. While I don't doubt you are most capable, perhaps I could put my powers at your service in exchange for your help? Would that be agreeable and fair?"

Yumiko recoiled in wide-eyed shock, when her assessment was reflected right back at her. “Huh? Thou would deem me strange? Why?” Even her tail curled up like a question mark. She tried her best to recall if she had done anything that could be considered unusual, but nothing sprung to mind.
Still stunned, the weasel didn’t move when the strange boy went for a boop. As one might expect, her nose was very soft and slightly moist. Ticklish too, evidently, as it twitched at the touch. The weird gesture left her beyond puzzled. “If it pleases thy peculiar preferences...” She muttered, wondering if his customs expected her to poke him back. Her sharp claws twitched...
Fortunately for everyone involved, the rhythmic drumming of footsteps interrupted the moment. A squad of marines armed with ropes and cuffs arrived at the scene in admirable unison. They assembled their ranks before the hunter and saluted. One of them stepped up, comparing the downed thugs to a stack of wanted posters.
In turn, the hunter offered the squad an acknowledging nod. She had done her part and now they would do theirs. Words were unnecessary.
With the thugs taken care of, the samurai returned her attention to the shinobi. She considered his request with a brief hum. “Hm, I must admit that I am a warrior, not a scholar. Mine knowledge of the curse comes from experience alone. And this island I know only because a comrade of mine calls it home.” She mused, uncertain of how much she could even offer.
However, it was a samurai’s duty to help those in need. Yumiko never refused the call. “Very well. If thou are willing to leave this island behind, I can get thee a ship and labor to earn thy meals.” She held up a claw to punctuate the unspoken ‘but’. “Be warned, the journey is long and the path harsh.” In true mentor fashion, she already sounded like an old man with her cryptic warning.
Suddenly, the weasel aimed a dramatic point at the boy, bringing her long claw just a little too close to his nose. “If thou seek to walk this path by mine side, then thou must swear fealty to mine master, the honorable Rear Admiral Anton of La’Croix.” Fortunately, she soon withdrew her paw. “If he accepts thee, then so shall I.” While she had no authority to make any sort of decision, she could at the very least arrange an audience with the Rear Admiral.
“What say thou? Will thou join the Marines?”

Well that was a start. As he would have guessed, the Kamaitachi didn't know much about the curse or how it properly worked, but he would take any information over no information at all. Going about things completely blind was going to be highly dangerous. It could also probably kill him if he wasn't careful.
Yumiko memtioned a comrade being native of the island, perhaps it was due to them that the two were able to meet in...well...such weird circumstances. The yokai would then agree on helping him on the condition he'd swear loyalty to de la Croix, who Yugo believed was a high ranking official of the peacekeeping force operating around the blues.
"Considering mine experience it shouldn't be too hard to do. Thus I shall join your organization, if Lord De la Croix is willing to accept me, of course." He stated. All in all it was a much better offer than remaining jobless and stranded on that island. Not that it wasn't nice and all but he kind of needed to get back to his place and an organization with access to ships and the means of travel back to the Grand Line was just what he needed to get his life back in gear after his shipwreck.

Every journey began with the first step, but it was often the hardest step to take. Thus, when the shinobi accepted the offer, the samurai returned an approving nod. “So be it.” While she was still wary of him, as she was of all strangers, at the very least she respected his determination. If he kept it up, he would no doubt find his way home one day.
Meanwhile the capture team wrapped up the arrests, with lovingly tied bows and all. A true professional took pride in their work. They carried the criminals off, like a line of overgrown ants dragging off a food haul. Their rhythmic march took them towards the docks at a brisk pace.
However, the hunter didn’t seem to be in a hurry to follow. Instead, she took a moment to explain the next steps, in her usual frigidly calm manner. “Our first destination is the island of Mini Oni. ‘Tis an icy island far to the north, the base of our operations.” Except that was not the island’s name, as any savvy traveler would know. Or even travelers who read the News Coo further than just the comics.
Regardless, the weasel’s tail swished, aiming a sharp sweep towards the vast horizon ahead of them. “There thou shall be measured. So prepare thyself during this voyage.” Whether he would be found worthy or wanting was entirely up to his own efforts.
Suddenly, Yumiko stalked close to the boy and dropped onto all fours. “I shall take thee to the ship and arrange thy transport.” She lowered herself onto the pavement, resembling a furry noodle. “Get on mine back.” The odd command was short and sharp. “‘Tis faster than the landing boat.” However, she mysteriously forgot to mention what exactly would be faster than the boat...

"Mini...Oni...can't say I have hear about it, then again it is very far away from my homeland, so it is very possible that my knowledge of the area may be faulty even after consulting some maps at the local library." Yugo would comment, trying to recall if he had read aboy any island called Mini Oni. It sounded vaguely familiar in the sense that it sounded like it could be a place from his own are but the name was lost on him.
He was then informed about his soon to be enacted test upon arrival on the island. That was fine, he wasn't really scared about showing his mettle to others. He had done it before in order to rise up through the shinobi ranks of hoshima. One does not become the personal guard of a Hoshima Lord without being excellent. "That is fine by me, I will use the time I have to train myself and further my knowledge of the curse. I shall not squander the chance and trust you have afforded me."
He flinched lightly as the yokai approached and then dropped low on the ground in what was arguably...a rather cute pose for something so fluffy yet so murderous. The next sentence though left him completely off guard. The situation was already weird but right now it got to copletely ridiculous. The kamaitachi had just invited him to settle on their back so that they could get to a ship faster.
"Y-yumiko-sama..." Yugo stumbled, blushing lightly. "I-I-I'm not sure..." the shinobi didn't finish his sentence as the look on the weasel made him understand the intent was serious. So with a light blush on his cheeks, the shinobi's tabi boots squeaked lightly as he tip tapped closer to the mythical beast and very slowly raised a leg up and over, very gently sitting down on the weasel's back. For added safety, he leaned forward slightly and carefully wrapped his arms around Yumiko's neck. It now dawned on him that the deity's fur was actually very soft and quite fluffy to the touch. Thankfully, his arm had turned back to normal by now. He wouldnt want to accidentally harm the beast with his mercury.
"Is...is this alright to you, Yumiko-sama?" He asked. "I'm ready to go if you're fine."

When the passenger climbed onto the furry noodle, she wheezed slightly beneath the added weight. “Ah, thou are much heavier than thou look...” Her honesty remained blunt as ever. She had not expected a lithe young man to weigh this much... But a true samurai did not back down!
Rising back onto all fours, Yumiko whipped her tail. She gathered her focus, coiling like a sprinter getting ready. “I shall need a strong gale for this...” The wind answered her call, whipping up a circle of dust around them.
Suddenly, the wind howled and the mythical weasel rushed forward. She darted down the street, until a building rose in her path. Without hesitation, she launched herself into a wild leap. Her sharp claws found purchase on the brick wall, then on the roof, carrying her even further. A mighty gale erupted beneath her feet. It yanked her loose clothing and whisked her high to the sky.
Much like a living kite, Yumiko rode the whirlwind with the passenger on her back. They scraped against the soft fluff of a passing cloud. Far beneath, the soldiers now looked very much like ants. They were loading up the last criminals onto their boats and setting off. In the distance, a mighty Marine ship waited.
Unsurprisingly, flying was far faster than rowing. In a matter of moments, the flying weasel reached the ship. She banked sharply to the side, circling in the air a couple of times. The whirling winds vanished abruptly. Without warning, she flipped around and dropped into a free fall. If Yugo hadn’t fallen off yet, by now he surely would. Underneath them awaited the unforgiving deck.
At the last second, another gust of wind made Yumiko’s clothes billow. She slowed down and landed with a soft, soundless touch. Naturally, she expected a seasoned shinobi to do the same. In the stories, they leapt down from castle walls and waterfalls. This drop was no higher than that.
The duo didn’t arrive on the deck alone. Several soldiers stopped to stare. A grizzled old man in a flawlessly white captain’s uniform stepped out to meet them as well. “Welcome back, hunter.” In return, he got a swift salute. “Sir.” His wizened eyes then turned to study the stranger, who had no uniform. “And who might you be, young man?” If he made any educated guesses, he was keeping them to himself.

"G-gome-" Yugo tried to apologize as the yokai made aware their discomfort as the shinobi huggled up on their neck and held on for dear life. He tried to explain again that his body was basically made of mercury, which was much denser than humans and thus weighted more, but the weasel decided to use their powers to fly. Yugo was actually scared shitless about the run up and the super strong wind the weasel summoned in order to lift his sorry ass off of the ground. His hair got all ruffled up and he had to use all of his willpower to not just strangle Yumiko. He was terrified to slip and drop in the water, which would spell instant death due to his curse.
If anything, the wasel spoke the truth, they were over and done real quick. He was taken from the shore all the way to a huge vessel. It was even bigger than the one he shiprwrecked in, meaning that the yokai's organization had alot of funds to sink into gear. As they approached, he felt his grip loosen as Yumiko implicitly asked him to dismount. Seeing his landing point, Yugo happily allowed himself to slip. In the few moments he was in the air, his training kicked in. With a flip, he properly oriented his body. He steadied himself with his arms and used his powers to help himself dampen the fall. With a roll to disperse more energy and the help of his tabi boots stretching to absorb most of the shock, the shinobi ended up in his cool landing pose right next to Yumiko. He just needed more space since, unlike the kamaitachi, he wasn't able to use wind to slow down. Interally, he thought it was kinda cool what they just did, but he also was glad he knew how to take those kind of falls without breaking his legs. Not that he could break them, really. He was made of mercury, it was much more likely he'd go through the wooden boards rather than breaking himself.
He stood back up to his feet, instinctively stepping closer to Yumiko after he felt the gaze of pretty much every single member of the ship glaring at him. He hated being the center of attention. Then, one man distinguished himself from the crowd. From the way the Yokai replied, it was clear the man was the Lord of the place. As soon as he asked about the silver haired boi, Yugo bowed hoping the customs of his land would be accepted in the Blues as well, as a form of courtesy.
"Mine name is Yugo Shirogane. It is an honour to make thine acquaintance, Sir." He stated, slowly, pretty much hoping Yumiko would remain at his side and help him with introductions.

Standing stiffly at attention, Yumiko only relaxed her salute once she received a nod from the captain, a wordless ‘at ease’. Once Yugo had introduced himself, she was quick to explain. “Sir Shirogane wishes to join the Marines. He shall accompany us to the base of Mini Oni.” It sparked approving murmurs from the men around them.
Only the captain seemed a little pensive about the new addition. “Hrm, a new recruit then. Welcome aboard. I’m Lieutenant Oldgeyser, the captain of this ship.” He stroked his thin beard, pondering idly. “Afraid we’re all out of passenger cabins, but the brig still has free beds at least...” Not the most comfortable way to travel though.
Suddenly, a different voice interjected. The husky, masculine growl of a beast was replaced by a chime as clear as a silver bell. “Nay, Sir Shirogane shall sleep in mine cabin.” The mythical weasel had mysteriously vanished. In its place stood a lean woman dressed in the same Wano fashion. Her pale features were pale and sharp, with only the long dark hair reminding of the fur. She was notably shorter in this form, now equal to the young man.
The careless comment had quickly gotten everybody’s attention. Murmurs turned into whispers, quickly spreading a peculiar misunderstanding. However, the captain knew the foreign woman’s mannerisms far better. “And where are you planning to sleep then?” He asked. Utter silence followed, as the rumor mill held its collective breath in anticipation.
Arms folded, Yumiko puffed her chest and held her head high. “A true samurai can rest even on a cold stone, beneath a raging waterfall. Thus, the hallway floor shall be enough for me.” Her answer poked a hole in the gossip, deflating it with a chorus of disappointed groans.
Evidently, some fools had gotten their hopes up over a woman they had barely met.
The captain was, again, the only one to take the odd answer in stride. “Hrm, suit yourself.” He cast a glance at the young man. “Get settled, recruit. We are raising the anchor in an hour. I expect to see you in the kitchen by then, if you want to eat supper tonight. Plenty of potatoes need peeling.” Everyone had to start from somewhere.

Yugo didn't mind where he was sleeping. He had to make do with worse spots than a brig. He wasn't expecting to be treated like a prince either. He was basically starting back from zero. His rank and position on Hoshima mattered not. So be it, prove himself he would. As Yumiko stated, he would be tested.
"Understood, Oldgeyser-taichou. I shal-" He was interrupted. Turning around, he didn't expect the man behind the face of the monstrous wind yokai to actually be a woman...and a gorgeous one at that! Her voice was unmistakeable though. That was Yumiko. He had to do a double take, just to make sure he was actually seeing the real thing and was not hallucinating. Shaking his head slightly, he still saw the raven haired lady as she stated she would sleep on the floor. He wouldn't interject, only because right now the samurai and captain both outranked him. He would take this as Yumiko's way to help him be fresh and ready for whatever trial he was to undergo at Mini Oni.
The shinobi waited for the other two to finish speaking. It seemed that the captain already had some chores for him to do, but an order is an order. This was his chance to get his life back in order and hopefully get the means to sail back to Hoshima and see his family again. Perhaps he should inform his newly acquired superior about his powers. He wouldn't want his inability to control them to sour the meals of the other people there. He didn't like being this open, knowing how rare his fruit was, but honesty was the first step to greatness. Humility the second, resolve the third. Thus, the shinobi's tabi boots squeaked lightly as the young man clicked his heels together and raised his left arm up high. He hoped that by mimicking the motion Yumiko had done when first landed would be the appropriate one to address the old man.
"Thine wish is my comman, Oldgeyser-taichou." He stated, firmly, arm to the forehead, palm inwards. "I pledge my skill, my sword..." He would add, turning his left forearm into shiny, liquid, polished quicksilver: mercury in its purest form. Telltale sign of a Logia Devil Fruit "...and my Curse to your cause." He concluded.
He held the pose for a couple seconds, then turned around towards the once-weasel. "I shall not squander the chance you've given me, Yumiko-sama. Please point me to the kitchen, I must begin my assignment in earnest."

Oldgeyser watched the boy’s transformation without a hint of surprise on his wrinkled features. Rather, he simply nodded. “Good. Now if you’ll excuse me...” As he turned and returned to the command bridge, sharp ears could catch him muttering something about ‘two of them now...’
Much to the samurai’s silent surprise, the shinobi took to his task with enthusiasm. She was suddenly ashamed to have thought that... Nay, it mattered not. She should be thankful that her choice to bring him along seemed right, thus far.
Yumiko accepted the request with a firm nod. “Very well. This way.” She took the lead, marching inside and deep into the belly of the vessel. The kitchen was a hot, sweaty pit of hard work. Simply working there for a couple of nights would pass for training.
Soon, the anchor was hoisted and the mighty vessel set sail. The sounds of the port town were left behind. A chill wind blew across the roiling seas. In the distant horizon, grim clouds gathered to cover the sky...
Getting to the island of Minion would be only the beginning.

GRADING
Quality Score (Re)assessment: Yes
ASSESSMENT COMMENTS
- Yumiko:
+ [At the very center stood a man with a nasty scar and a nastier smile. He straightened his back and brushed his slick pompadour. “Oh, sure din’, boss.” Had sarcasm held any substance, his words would’ve been dripping like tar.
The greasy man clicked his fingers. “Legs, Grabby, advance on ‘im.” Right on command, two of the goons started creeping closer to the stranger. One had legs twice as long as regular people, while the other had arms so long they had double elbows.] That dialogue seems out of order? It also led to some confusion later on.
+ [Like, what other animal would wander around in a trashy alley?] Cats, dogs, pigs, donkeys, cows; clearly these guys have never been to India.
+ [Slowly, the monstrous creature leaned closer... Closer... Much too close. Ignoring all sense of personal space, she studied the young man. Her black nose twitched, as she sniffed his hair, breath and clothing.] No wonder all the boys chase after Yumiko.
+ [“So ‘twas all a trick to let thy vassals escape. Thou are most cunning indeed.”] The tourist who was being robbed is not mentioned at all since Yumiko's arrival. It's okay if he's too scared to try and clear up the misunderstanding. But, then, the narration should at least have acknowledged his muted presence.
+ I'm sure Yugo appreciated that guided introduction in your first CMP! I appreciated it too.
+ You are still listing all your cooldowns and durations in turns. Remember, all of those are counted in rounds, not turns.
+ [Meanwhile, the buddies of the fallen criminal came to a screeching halt. “Grabby! No!” Their greasy leader cried out. He shot a commanding glare at his underlings. “Help him out, ya dopes!” Said dopes promptly hurried to assist their friend against the menacing granny.
Only to be intercepted by a furry missile. ] This sentence, while impactful, is not grammatically sound. This should either have been part of the last sentence of the previous paragraph, or it should have been worded as a complete sentence (e.g. "A furry missile intercepted them."). Alternatively, you could have used an ellipsis to denote continuation (e.g. "...Only to be intercepted by a furry missile.")
+ [The tension popped like a soap bubble.] I like this simile.
+ [The overly honest pot bluntly declared to the kettle.] Love this.
- Yūgo Shirogane:
+ [One moment he was sailing to and from his hometown and the next he was waking up in a clinic in that place with a foul taste in his mouth and three words floating in his head: Suigin Suigin no Mi.] As we discussed, fruit names do not seem to magically appear in the user's head. There are devil fruit encyclopedias which are referenced for the fruit's name once you have identified your powers.
+ [Then again...why would such a precious and unique item be inside an Ys Artia trade vessel?] I thought we changed all of these names to be more Japanese-themed for consistency. I suppose we missed this one.
+ [...who he would guess were the crooks beating the poor guy there on the floor.] It can be important to use the correct word for a situation to avoid painting the wrong picture. In this case, I think you meant ground.
+ ["N-NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE!" Yugo exclaimed from the nook he managed to hide him the moment he felt the slightest hint of a breeze, cold sweat as he saw part of the concrete scrape off and crumble to the ground, pretty much reinforcing the idea that he should NOT get the kamaitachi's ire directed in his direction. He shot a glare at the big guy trying to get the weasel to attack him. "Y-yokai-sama, you can't seriously think I'm with these people!" He stated. There was a clear divide in the way they talked and dressed. How could the weasel just believe what the guy was saying just like that.] Some of your paragraphs tend to be longer than necessary. Blocky paragraphs make your text less readable. Below is how I would've split the quoted paragraph further:
"N-NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE!" Yugo exclaimed from the nook he managed to hide him the moment he felt the slightest hint of a breeze, cold sweat as he saw part of the concrete scrape off and crumble to the ground, pretty much reinforcing the idea that he should NOT get the kamaitachi's ire directed in his direction.
He shot a glare at the big guy trying to get the weasel to attack him. "Y-yokai-sama, you can't seriously think I'm with these people!" He stated.
There was a clear divide in the way they talked and dressed. How could the weasel just believe what the guy was saying just like that.
+ [Remember the training, how to deal with stressful situations.] "Remember your training" is a very tired trope. Instead, I encourage you to write specific scenes or lines from his past to show exactly what kind of training he's remembering.
+ [He knew that when an animal's ears lower, the tail stops wagging and the eyes dilate they are getting ready to pounce.] I liked this observation of animal behaviour. It's a good example of "showing rather than telling". Instead of telling the reader "she looked ready to pounce", you showed exactly what made her seem ready to pounce.
+ [TURN 2 ROUND 1] So, I believe you have Round and Turn mixed up. Cooldowns, durations, and boss techniques are counted in rounds, not turns. Turns are really only relevant when two or more players are engaging the same boss (or each other). If you need more clarification on this, please feel free to ask questions in the #help-desk.
+ For Round 1, you should still list the DoT in the "Techniques Used" section, even though you listed it in the "Techniques Active" section.
+ For Round 2, your boss rolled a 12 for one of their LTs. Their RX% is 50%, so, the required roll for a solid LT is 13. However, when a character rolls only one value below the required, it is called a "Grazing Hit". Please search for grazing hits in the Combat Guide.
+ For Round 3, your boss rolled a 12 for their UT. Their RX% is 50%, so, the required roll for a solid UT is 11. This should have been a HIT.
+ If your RX% is higher than 100% and your combo will knock out a boss, you can skip doing the combat calculations for your boss in that round (since it wouldn't make a difference anyway).
+ [In his time on the island, he had researched just what kind of fruit he had ingested. He hadn't got specifics but based on what he could do he had turned into a Logia type devil fruit user. If the texts were to be believed, there were three kind of fruits that gave special powers on consumption and the powers he had seemed to align with possibly the rarest type of them all.] Ah, good, you clarified the source of his knowledge regarding the fruit.
+ [The confrontation took a good lot out of him. He had just discovered that creating all that mercury was kind of straining. He should be way more careful with doing it. It would all be easier if he could just use his powers the way they were meant to, but he still wasn't sure it was worth it to let the news spread. ] This is an example of telling instead of showing. Narrative analyses like these are rarely interesting to read. Some of this information can be conveyed by showing the impact the confrontation had on Yugo's body. And the rest can be disclosed through dialogue. There was pretty much zero dialogue between Yugo and the boss. Their exchange could have been more entertaining with a few words traded between them.
+ [He slid eye level with the yokai, noses one inch apart] This was way too cringey. Also seemed unnecessary and a jarring 180 from what his character was like moments before (i.e. respectful bordering on subservient).
+ [The weasel thankfully stopped itself from spilling its interiors on the pavement and elected to say its name instead, but by that point Yugo's secret was already out and his hand around the blade was already sizzling as the mercury his body was made of seeped into the small pores of the katana, attacking the structure of the high carbon steel and causing it to corrode the weapon thus turning it brittle.] I would already expect you to know this, but, I don't believe iron or steel form an amalgam with mercury. And they certainly cannot be corroded in such a manner by mercury. If it were a gold or silver blade, that would be another story.
+ [He raised his normal hand up and very gently booped the vicious' kamaitachi's nose.] I cringed again.
+ [It was crazy just how easy it was for the Kamaitachi to switch from murder mode to happy go lucky weasel mode. In truth though...he quite liked the bubbly personality the wind deity seemed to have on the regular.] I would not describe her behaviour as happy-go-lucky or bubbly at all. If Yugo is living in a fantasy of his making, you should make it clearer.
+ [Yugo was actually scared shitless about the run up and the super strong wind the weasel summoned in order to lift his sorry ass off of the ground.] In some instances of your narration, your diction is formal and refined, while in others, it's casual and uncouth. It's important to keep your narrative voice consistent unless you are writing from multiple characters' perspectives. The shift can spoil the narrative flow otherwise.
+ [Mine name is Yugo Shirogane] Shouldn't it be said as "Shirogane Yugo"?
- Overall:
+ A decent first quest for Yugo overall. Though I will say I was hoping for a more layered plot than "boy meets girl; they fight random goons; boy joins girl". But, the interaction between the two was entertaining enough to read.
