[Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!
Sat Jan 29, 2022 1:42 pm
[Part 1 found here]
Morning fell on Battle Island. Unlike the previous day, the atmosphere was a bit more quiet. The pirates were all in their ship, sleeping off the opening celebrations, and Alcabiades' subordinates were getting everything prepared for the upcoming event.
Celia had been the first to wake up. She was always the first to rise. There was always something to be done, so she made sure she was all ready for it. Right now, the second in command was in the ship's kitchen. It wasn't as large as the mess hall on the Steamer, but it had a nice, homey feel to it. Plus, it was stocked with all that they needed, which right now happened to be coffee.
As she was brewing herself up a pot, she heard the door opening behind her. "Coooffeeeee," groaned a voice behind her. "Just finished up a pot," Celia replied, pouring herself a cup, "You're free to have som-gah!"
She had expected to see one of her crew mates. Instead, standing behind her was the pale face of Lune Kaiser, looking like she just rose from the grave. One would think such a bouncy girl was the kind of person to spring out of bed with endless energy. That was clearly not the case.
"Thaaaaank yooouuu," she droned, walking past Celia and taking the entire coffee pot. She held it in her hands for a brief moment, the steam instantly fading as the drink rapidly cooled. Then, she proceeded to grab the nearby sugar and dump a lot into it.
Celia had, of course, missed the fact that the Kaiser sisters had spent the night with them. Thus she could only stare in dumb surprise, watching the little ice sprite down the entire coffee pot in a single go.
And then, like some magical transformation, Lune immediately perked up, her spring returning. "Ah! Much better!" She looked to Celia as if noticing her for the first time and smiled. "Hey there! I'm Lune Kaiser. A pleasure to meet ya!"

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!
Sun Jan 30, 2022 4:46 am
Sun peered from beyond the horizon like a sharpshooter peeking from hiding. Slowly... Carefully... It took aim at a very specific window. Seconds ticked by as the imaginary crosshair crawled closer and closer. The sun beam pierced through the window, past poorly closed curtains and right into the eyes of a sleeping figure.
Boom. Headshot.
With a weak groan, the bundle of blankets shifted. She lifted a hand to shield her sensitive eyes from the bright assault. Who, what, where? Questions buzzed in her groggy mind. Yet as she tried to recall the events of the previous evening, she only got blurry flashes. A grim, heavy feeling in her soul simply insisted that something shameful had happened.
Yumiko surprised herself by climbing out of the bed easily enough. Usually mornings like this one were accompanied by a pounding headache and a sickening nausea. Mysteriously, both were absent... But... She had been drinking, hadn’t she? The only clue to that was her throat, which felt like it had been scraped raw with sandpaper. Every dry breath scratched and burned.
The warrior stepped in front of the mirror and studied the reflection pensively. A stranger stared back, with borrowed clothes and messily cascading hair. Clearly she hadn’t washed herself last night. It could only mean she had blacked out... Again... But how had she ended up in this room?
The questions would have to wait, as the dry, raspy feeling grew worse.
Seeking water, the swordswoman shambled into the kitchen. She opened her mouth to greet Miss Celia. “...” But only a quiet wheeze came out. Puzzled, she tried to clear her throat, only to be immediately stopped by horrible pain. Any attempt felt like gargling a hot coal. Just what manner of poison had she been drinking last night...?
Before the wounded warrior could ponder further, a new scent finally caught her attention. Cold, fresh and was that a hint of mint...? Her gaze strayed onto the pale stranger. It felt like time itself stopped, so awkward was the pause.
Suddenly, Yumiko recoiled back. An accusing finger shot a sharp point at Lune. “...!” She declared with all the loudness of wind playing with a feather. Her fierce glare, however, spoke volumes in its own right. She was not happy to see this intruder.
Keeping a close eye on the enemy, the warrior rushed over to the kitchen cabinets. Hastily she rummaged through every drawer within reach. She needed a weapon, a blade, any blade would do...
There!
With a dramatic flourish, the swordswoman spun around and revealed... a butter knife! She held it at ready, as it had been a short sword. Another awkward pause wandered across the room. However, one should question her weapon choice at their own peril...
Wind started whispering. It rustled Yumiko’s clothing and made her messy hair dance. Keen senses could notice dust drifting in a very peculiar pattern. The air itself shimmered like an actual blade around the small butter knife. Indeed. Any blade was enough for her mythical ability.
The warrior took a step forward, assuming a traditional sword stance. “...” She warned, hoisting her questionable weapon threateningly. Tension ran high. The whole scene was a powder keg ready to blow. All it needed was a spark. ...Or someone to defuse it very carefully.

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!
Sun Jan 30, 2022 2:04 pm
The next morning had indeed arrived. The sun was rising from the other side of the horizon, emitting its rays towards the ships, the stadiums, the pavilion, and the countless small and also, large tents. In the darkened room, heavy snoring was bouncing from wall to wall. If someone was close enough to the door, the snoring sound could easily enter their ears. Occasionally it felt like it was an animal in that room who was sleeping.
It was no animal... In that sense at least. It was none other than Ryoichi, sleeping in Captain Oberon's quarters, enjoying his early morning in deep slumber, except it was not that deep. The walking and talking of the rest of the crew that had begun to wake up reached Ryoichi's ears, which lead him to open his eyes. One could call it a defensive instinct.
He sat up and took a look around the dark room. There really was nothing noteworthy to see, other than a small stripe of light coming from between the curtains. He climbed out of bed and immediately began to stretch himself as he was approaching the window to pull the curtains apart, letting the light shine into the room, and of course, into Ryoichi's eyes, which instinctively made him squint his eyes. "Wish nights lasted longer..."
As he was mumbling to himself, he turned himself around, with his naked back now facing the window and the shining sun, he straightened himself up... And then, at first, he slowly began to lean forward, until he was leaning forward enough to drop down on the ground. The impact was stopped by his own arms. Morning training had begun with the push-ups.
"One... Two... Three..." and so on, Ryoichi kept on counting the swift pushups... And it did not take too long until he reached 100 pushes. The push-ups were followed by sit-ups, with the goal to reach the same magical number, 100.
But the morning training was far from over. It was time to head outside. Upon opening the door and exiting the room, the man was reaching his arms out to his sides to stretch himself. He sniffed the fresh sea air with a grin. "GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!" "SHUT THE FUCK UP WE ARE TRYING TO SLEEP HERE!" "YES! FUCK YOU TOO!".
Ryoichi's enthusiastic morning was not met with similar enthusiasm... It was clear one side had drunk way less than all the other sides. That could even be seen from the amount of energy that Ryoichi was displaying. He ran down onto the main deck and began to run circles all around it, meanwhile throwing punches into the air, exhaling air, and inhaling it. This was but a warm-up!

Anton had not slept well at all last night. He had decided to do the gentlemanly thing and let Lune sleep in the hammock. He had also managed to locate a spare cot for Sol as well. This left Anton in the unenviable position of sleeping on the hard floor. So, not only did he had difficulty sleeping, but he was woken up by Ryoichi shouting and running around on deck, with a sore back for good measure.
So, as Ryoichi enjoyed his morning exercise, he would soon meet his commanding officer in disguise, grumbling lightly as he adjust the large mushroom cap on his head. Beside him was Sol, who seemed to be taking the morning better than he was.
"Oberon," Anton muttered, remembering the fake name, "Unless we're under attack, it's way too damn early to be running around and shouting." He groaned, trying to stretch out his back. Sol, seeing his discomfort, placed a hot hand gently on his back. The heat coming off of her was actually quite soothing. "Ah, thank you Sol," Anton sighed with a smile. Sol returned the warmth with her own. "Don't mention it."
With the act in his back temporarily soothed, Anton looked around. "By the way, where did Lune disappear off to?" Sol shrugged, "Well, nothing's frozen, so she can't be getting into any trouble."
Trouble was what Lune may have stumbled into, when the warrior woman of Wano came in. Though it seemed Baba's remedy had left Yumiko voiceless, at least for now. Lune tilted her head at her reaction to her presence. "Erm, do you need a drink of water?"
But when Yumiko pulled the knife on her, things got tense. Sure, it was just a butter knife, but Lune was ditzy, not stupid. The woman clearly wasn't playing around and even a butter knife can deal damage if stabbed hard enough. She raised her hands nervously. "Now now, let's not do anything hasty. I'm a friend. Anty let me and Sol spend the night, remember?" She stopped and blinked, "Oh, right. You passed out."
"Anty?" Celia echoed, horror slowly dawning on her. Lune smiled. "Yep! Anton! Your boss," another pause, "Oh, don't worry. Your secret is safe with me. Me and Sol won't tell a soul!" Celia could only stand there, trying to process just what the hell was happening right now.

A familiar shout left the weasel woman’s sensitive ears ringing briefly. Clearly Sir Ayugai was unharmed... But also unaware of the danger. It was up to her to deal with this menace and then warn her allies. Ever since yesterday, she had been on the edge, praying for an excuse. This was not a good time to test her patience...
Yumiko continued glaring daggers at the presumed intruder. “...?” She questioned fiercely. “ ...!” Brandishing the knife threateningly, she ranted about the evils of piracy. The poor girl was barely given a chance to defend herself against the angry accusations.
However, when the stranger identified her as a friend... The naive swordswoman immediately lowered her blade. Her icy expression melted from distrust to mere confusion. “...?” She repeated Celia’s question. What kind of person was allowed to speak of the Master in such an informal manner, let alone spend the night with him...?
Then the misunderstanding hit like a sledgehammer.
Suddenly, the Wano Woman recoiled. A bright blush painted her features pink, as she pointed a shaky finger at the girl. “...” She accidentally blurted out an old-fashioned and unintentionally rude assumption about the girl’s status. Though to be fair, in her culture it was the only reason for a man to sleep with two women.
Without wasting a moment, the warrior dropped to her knees. She bowed her head fast enough to slam it against the floor. Â “...! ... ... ...!” Words flowed like a sparkling river, as she humbly offered her sincere apologies. Still, mere words alone could never right this insult, which she openly acknowledged in her heartfelt speech. ...Too bad it was all lost in translation.
Yumiko raised her head with a glint of peculiar determination in her gaze. She turned the butterknife in her grasp, pointing it at herself instead. “...” Indeed, it was the only proper way to atone for all this dishonor.
The swordswoman cast an expectant look at the Staff Officer. Someone needed to lob her head off afterwards and she knew her superior would do it properly. With a weak smile, she offered her apologies for her failures, along with some final words of comfort. “...” It was poetic, perhaps a little melodramatic even, but from the heart nonetheless.
Yumiko closed her eyes and took a deep breath to sharpen her focus. Carefully she brought the wind-wreathed blade to her stomach. It sliced into her clothing, drawing a drop of red before stopping short. Nervous jitters trailed down her arms. She only had one chance to do this properly. Her grip tightened...

Huff... Huff... Huff... Ryoichi let out repeated huffs as he was working up the sweat with running around the main deck and throwing punches into the air. The man was determined, focused, as he was with every training. That's how he was trained, this is what he is used to... It's encoded into him.
Unfortunately, he could not keep on training without being interrupted. He had to pull a hard stop on running and throwing punches when Anton the Puck showed up, together with a stranger. It was good that Ryoichi was still paying attention to his surroundings, otherwise, by accident, he could have landed a punch in Anton's face.
It was expected, his shouting and running were not received well even by his own crew, but only one of the people came to complain about it. But Ryoichi could not help but grin at it. "We are here to win the competition. With that attitude, none of them will win it, and neither will we. Gather everyone up Puck, we shall have a morning warmup."
Ryoichi was still stomping on the spot while talking, his bent on his side. It was as if the man was still running, except he was doing that on the spot... But one thing made him suddenly stop running. It was the stranger that was standing next to Anton. The rather young-looking burning red-haired girl.
His eyes blinked. In character Ryoichi with instinct immediately asked as he shifted around the girl to look at her. "Who are you? What are you doing on my ship? Wait a minute, you are one of the singers from yesterday..." his question was immediately answered by himself as he remembered what had happened last night... But why was she here?
One would say, not to jump to conclusions, and more often than not, Ryoichi hasn't... But this seemed weird... Too weird. "Wait... Puck... Could it be that you are into... This? his eyes widened... There's no denying it. Smiling like that to each other... And he just appeared together with her. She's so young! "Puck by the god... Did you at least check their ID?!"

Anton had expected such a reaction. Having two women spending the night was going to raise some eyebrows. Though he more expected the somewhat over the top reaction to come from Yumiko, not Ryoichi. At his first splattering statement, Sol's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean 'this'?" she said, a small fireball forming in her hand before Anton gently lowered it.
The second statement of I.D. caused them both to pause and look at eachother in confusion. Did he honestly think...? Sol stood just an inch or two shorter than Anton, and while she did look youthful, so didn't look THAT young did she? "Um, I'm twenty two," Sol responded, raising an eyebrow. "And secondly, nothing happened!" Anton interjected, "They got the beds, I slept on the floor." After all the rumors that spread around about Yumiko, Anton did NOT want falsehoods like this getting around.
Fortunately(?) this somewhat awkward moment was broken by the sounds of a struggle going on inside. A surprised yell and a familiar voice shouting, "Yumiko! Put the knife down!"
Anton took off like a bullet, quickly followed by Sol as the two burst into the ship's kitchen. Lune was standing off to the side, her eyes wide, while Celia was in the process of wrestling what appeared to be a butter knife out of Yumiko's hands. "What the hell is going on here?" Anton tried his best not to shout, but with everything going...
Lune was frantic, "I was just getting some coffee and then the quiet lady came in, and she pulled a knife on me, so I tried to explain, and then she started acting wierd and tried to stab herself and I don't know what's going on!" She took a deep breath as Sol moved to consol her sister. Anton sighed, relaxing somewhat. It was way too damn early. "Yumiko, care to explain?"
"Wait a moment," Celia spoke up. From her clothes she pulled out a notepad and a pen, handing them to Yumiko. "Yumiko, we can't understand what you're saying. Please write it down." At Anton's quizzical expression she shrugged, "For some reason Yumiko's lost her voice." Her gaze hardened, "And now, can you please explain what they are doing here?"
"They recognized me at the opening ceramony,"Â Anton replied, "And before you say anything, you can relax. They're keeping quiet." "That's what I said," Lune butted in. Sol nodded in agreement. "Of course. We wouldn't put Anton in danger like that."

Inside the kitchen, the show had switched from a ritual suicide to a wrestling match. Celia had Yumiko pinned against the floor, while the latter stubbornly clung to her tiny blade. It was just as awkward as watching a pet owner trying to stop their pet from eating something questionable. A lot of struggling with zero results.
The sudden shout startled the weasel woman. Her grip slipped and the butter knife went twirling into the air. It hit the floor with a weak clatter. She tried to scramble after it, only for the Staff Officer to twist her arm behind her back. “...!” Her face twisted into agony with a soundless yelp.
Tough love tended to hurt.
Once the knife was safely confiscated, the warrior was let go. “...” She muttered bitterly, rubbing her sore arm. Hand-to-hand was the basis of all combat, yes, but she had to admit it had never been her strong suit. Yet another failure on her part...
When ordered to explain, Yumiko opened her mouth. “...” ...Only to be promptly interrupted by Celia. Perhaps it was for the best. With some hesitation, she accepted the pen and notepad. She was a warrior, not a poet, but... If it was her master’s will, then she would obey without question.
Writing with quick and sharp motions, the swordswoman started rapidly slashing words onto the paper. She focused on the task completely, barely even listening to the chatter around her. A dead woman didn’t need to know the matters of the living after all.
Once the warrior was satisfied with the explanation, she stepped in front of her master. She took a knee and held the notebook for him, like an offering to a king. Her mysterious message read as thus...
---
Master, please forgive thy foolish servant. This one threatened and disrespected thy concubine. To atone for mine repeated inexcusable failures, this one shall perform a seppuku to restore thy honor through blood. If it is not too much trouble, please cut mine head off afterwards. Thank you for everything. Fare thee well.
---
...Yes, she even wrote in her peculiar vernacular.

"Wait, she's burning up." Ryoichi blinked as his eyes shifted between Anton and the girl, but the fire was soon put out by Anton, rather easily in fact. For one to listen to him like that, they must've known each other for a while... So it had been going for a long time already?
His eyes squinted a bit as he looked at the girl suspiciously. The age she said was did not really match with what she looked like. She's twenty-two? Ryoichi is twenty-two himself... Sure there are people who look extremely young for their age, but she looks too young for twenty-two-year-old. "Riiiiiight, like hell you are."
But his suspicions were put on hold for now due to the scream that came from the kitchen location. And they call him the peaceful morning ruiner. Well, no time to waste. He followed Anton and his 'friend' to the kitchen, only to find what seems to be the confusion of the highest order.
Another stranger, this one looking 'colder' however, but also young looking... It only took Ryoichi a short while to recognize that she's the second singer from yesterday. Did... Anton have another one? Is she 'twenty-two years old'? A question for later. He stood there and witnessed the 'action' and explanation happening.
Well, what do you know? Their cover was already blown! "Way to go Puck..." he mumbled audibly as he folded his arms. Meanwhile, Yumiko had written a letter for everyone to read. He squinted his eyes a bit to read the small letter. "What's a concubine?".
Ryoichi asking the real question, as literally, everything else written there did not surprise Ryoichi anymore... Although, it was worrying that she would actually try it. Oh, this is a troublesome situation... Perhaps it's best if some distraction was thrown out there? "Alright group! Enough of eating and drinking before morning exercises!". He knew that others will not be so easily distracted, but perhaps it'll take the seppuku-filled thoughts away from Yumiko, who is easier to distract.

Anton ignored Ryoichi's muttering as he took the note. It seemed like Ryoichi's role as 'captain might be going to his head a little. But right now, he had more important things to worry about. Yumiko had often talked about 'atoning' by killing herself, but this was the first time she actively tried.
As he read the note he visibly blanched. Concubine!? Yumiko had thought that... At Ryoichi blurting out the word, Sol and Lune looked over Anton's shoulder, their faces flushing brightly. "Quite a crew you have here Anton," Sol murmured. First being mistaken for a child, and now mistaken for a love slave.
Lune looked back at the humbled, and rather suicidal Yumiko. She gave the Wano woman a reassuring smile. "Hey, there's no need for anything like that. What you did was perfectly reasonable. I mean, a random stranger appearing on your ship. Anyone would react as you did. You gave me no disrespect. This is all just a misunderstanding and all is forgiven."
Anton gave a small smile. Times like this showed that beneath her bouncy, almost childish nature was a pretty intelligent woman. "Yumiko, if you wish to atone, then keep yourself alive so you can make up for it. Fail at something? Then work to improve yourself so it won't happen again."
He turned his attention to everyone gathered. "Now then, it's early, we've all just woken up, and we're a little wound up. I think some breakfast will do us good. And then, like Ryoichi said, we need to get ourselves warmed up for the games."

Despite the icy guest’s kind forgiveness, the wounded woman stayed kneeling. “...” She insisted vehemently. Her comment was sharp, cutting across the air. Indeed, empty excuses had no place on the path of a warrior. Such blatant disrespect demanded bloody retribution. There was no other way to restore her honor.
When Ryoichi asked about the meaning of the word, Yumiko lifted her head. Death could wait for a little longer. “...” She helpfully explained. “...” It was a rather lengthy answer, admittedly, but she believed the context was important. It was deeply rooted in historical customs after all. She only hoped she had expressed herself clearly, for this one final time.
When the Rear Admiral gave his order, the Petty Officer froze in place. She didn’t even blink. Rather, she merely aimed a baffled stare at him, as if the man had just blurted out a complicated math formula without context. It might as well have been all hieroglyphs to her.
After several seconds of awkward silence from Yumiko, she finally opened her mouth. “...” She nodded, speaking the words she often spoke when she didn’t know what else to say. Still, the reluctance gleamed clear in her eyes. No, this was not right... It simply didn’t work like this... Foreign customs were incredibly confusing.
However, it was not a servant’s place to argue. The silent woman rose to her feet and turned her back to the group. “...” She apologized, before hurrying out of the room. Yet even as she went, her empty stomach groaned weakly. It only served to hasten her steps.
Giving others time to eat some breakfast, the warrior retreated to... well, it wasn’t even her cabin. Just someone else’s home she was borrowing without permission. She stopped to stare at the large mirror. A ghoulish, pale figure stared back, eyes sunken with worry and mouth twisted into a freakish frown.
Grimacing at the sight, Yumiko looked away. Soon, a resounding two-handed slap echoed through the whole ship. Her cheeks burned with distinct hand prints for a long while afterwards. Focus, she demanded harshly from herself. This was no time to get distracted.
The bloody battle for survival would soon begin...
Or so she still thought.

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!

Ryoichi nodded as Yumiko explained the word with enthusiasm. Yes, very good, excellent, all those thoughts ran through his head... Except there was one small problem. He had no idea what she was saying. She spoke... But the words did not leave her mouth. Tragedy. But he chose not to say anything and look the word up later. He simply stood there until Yumiko had left the room.
It seemed that Ryoichi's call for morning exercises was ignored by the hungry and tired crowd. Instead, they continued with their coffee and food consumption. Shameful display! Or so Ryoichi thought for a moment. Not everyone is like Ryoichi and he accepted that. But it was no time yet for him to chow down. He however went over to a bowl that contained apples and oranges and bananas.
He grabbed two bananas from the bowl and then rushed back out from the kitchen. Huff... Huff... Huff. A banana in each hand he ran around the deck once more. Breakfast was to be earned, especially after last night's feast and drinking.
He could not even break the sweat again until his sensitive ears picked up the slapping sound, and the approximate location it happened. Since he was already running around in circles, he rushed towards the location where the sound came from.
The approximate location was, in fact, the room where Yumiko at this very moment was residing... But was she in there is a whole other question. He moved the banana from one hand into the other and knocked on the door before opening it. "Mustardseed? You in there? Everything okay?"
Before he had made sure there was no one else but her in there, he did not feel it is safe to call her out with her real name, hence, Mustardseed. But Yumiko did appear to be in the room. He let out a sigh of relief. "Yumiko, what happened? I heard a weird, almost a slap sound.".
Even to that question, he got the answer the moment he had stepped into the room. He could notice Yumiko's cheeks red, one could even notice a small print of hand on each of them. "Oh Yumiko... Why would you do that?" He moved over to her and placed the bananas down on the nightstand.
"Tell you what. You tell me why you did this, and I shall show you what I wanted to show you. You can speak with a lower voice if it makes it easier to speak for your throat. he motioned Yumiko to stand up. If she did so, he would move his hands towards each hand's bandages and unwrap them. Upon unwrapping, Yumiko could see bruised knuckles on his hands.
But the bandages wouldn't stay off. Instead, Ryoichi grabbed one with his left hand, and with his right hand, he grabbed Yumiko's left hand. He began to wrap the bandage around her wrist and hand. First, he hooked the end of the bandage to the thumb with a noose, three rounds around the wrist, then three rounds around the palm and back of the hand, covering the knuckles, then around between each finger of the hand, eventually trying it up to secure the wrist.
He did not just stop with one hand. After that, he did the same thing with her right hand and wrist, all the while listening to Yumiko talk if she chose to do so. What Ryoichi's exact motive of this was, however, was still to be shown... But it certainly involved hands.

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!
Sat Feb 05, 2022 3:13 pm
It seemed Anton's suggestion for breakfast wasn't well received by Ryoichi and Yumiko, as the two quickly departed. Anton couldn't help but sigh. This seemed like a pretty strained morning for everyone. He figured it would be best to give them space right now.
As they prepared breakfast, Melanie and Doc Black came up. The two took the new visitors relatively well. Anton swore that nothing seemed to phase those two. Soon enough, all six of them were sitting down, eating.
Anton looked over at the two sisters. "You know, there's something I've been meaning to ask you two." Lune swallowed down a mouthful, "Shoot." Anton took a deep breath, "Well, the two of you have a bounty of ninety million." Sol nodded casually, "That's what it was last I checked." Anton's face went flat. "My question is why? I looked through your files, and all I can find is property damage. Nothing that would warrant a bounty that high. Just what did the two of you do?"
The two sisters looked at eachother. "Well," Lune began, "It all started, well, I can't remember which island we were on, but I had just used my snow bomb to give them a nice snow day," Lune smiled at the memory, "I was playing with the kids, when I see this strange, grumpy man walking around with a bunch of suits. I thought he could use some cheering up, so I threw a snowball at him. I mean, who doesn't like a snowball fight?" Sol gave a small snort in response. Lune ignored her. "Suddenly, everyone's acting like I just committed a murder and I have suits and marines chasing me!"
"I'm somewhat in the same boat," Sol spoke up, "I was on that island when Lune turned it into a snowglobe and naturally I was in a bad mood. And then this ugly man with a bubble on his head, I'm pretty sure it was the same one you mentioned sister, comes up to me and says "You're my wife now!"" she huffed, "Can you believe it? Naturally I say no, and then he just grabs me like a pervert. So, like any woman in my position, I slapped him. Then it went just like Lune said. Chased off the island by suits and marines."
The four marines stared with mild confusion. Those...didn't sound like crimes. Why would that illicit such a response? Then the thought hit them as their faces went pale. Bubble? Surrounded by suits? The smallest slight treated like a political assassination? "This man..." Anton trailed off as the two sisters looked guilty. "Yeah...we only found out later that the man was..."
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door, causing everyone to jump. Anton slowly rose to his feet, half expecting a marine crack team to burst in at any moment.
Instead, at the door was a young man carrying a letter. "Um, letter for Captain Oberon. Is he in?" Beneath his mushroom cap, Anton rose an eyebrow, "He wasn't on deck?" Surely enough, he couldn't see their 'captain' on deck. The messenger shook his head. "Nope. Anyway, this is a list of the games for today. Just so you all can prepare. Good luck out there." He gave a small wave and departed.
With the message in hand, Anton asked around where Ryoichi had gone to. He was certainly surprised when he heard the boxer had gone straight to Yumiko's room. Why would he go there? The man seemed very interested in training before, and Yumiko often kept to herself. Well, whatever the two were up to was their business.
He made his way to Yumiko's temporary dwelling, knocking on the door. "You guys there? We got a message about the games." He called.

Yumiko was already jumpy from the morning’s events. So, the knock on the door got an echo back, as her head met the ceiling. The series of questions was met with a hesitant look towards the door. “...” She lied. Most of all to herself.
She was a lousy liar.
When the boxer asked about the weird slap, the swordswoman averted her gaze. “...!” She insisted sharply, her words cutting like a blade. Nothing indeed... After an awkward pause, she let out a soft sigh. “...” She apologized for raising her voice at him. Her focus was all over the place today, but that did not excuse her behavior. She could only hope he could find it in his heart to forgive her rude remark.
The warrior’s attention was drawn to the fighter’s bruised fists. Immediate worry flared across her features. Her frown grew and brow furrowed even further. “...?!” Well, yes, that was kind of obvious wasn’t it? Still, it was reckless of him to move about with such heavy injuries.
However, before Yumiko could drag Ryoichi into the medbay, she was stopped by another strange event. There was that baffled look again, as if she had seen a mouse sprout wings and fly away. Why were all her crewmates acting so strange today...? Was there something in the water...?
Pure puzzlement purged all thoughts from the Wano woman’s head. She could only stare in stunned silence. Round by round, the bandage wrapped around her hand. Tighter and tighter. The other one followed suit. The bandages swapped wearers in deafening, awkward silence.
After the whole procedure, Yumiko looked at the bandages... Then up at Ryoichi... Back down to the bandages... “...?” She questioned carefully. It was not that she didn’t appreciate his... uh... attempt to help, but she was no karateka. This kind of bandaging would make handling blades a little inconvenient.
...Unless that was the purpose of this training exercise?
To stir the pot of confusing events even further, another knock rang against the door. The soldier instinctively snapped to attention, when the familiar voice of her superior called out. “...!” She replied firmly. It was a reflex at this point.
If Anton stepped inside, he would find a scene that sparked questions. Yumiko stood stiffly at attention. Her hands were bandaged up in the protective style of a boxer. Stranger yet, her usually pale cheeks still burned red.
...Then again, this kind of thing was business as usual at this point.

Ryoichi turned his head towards the door where the knocking was happening. Upon hearing who it was and the question, Ryoichi simply responded while motioning Yumiko to stand up. "Yeah we are in here, we are decent, feel free to step in." well Yumiko was decent, Ryoichi was still without a shirt... As he was when he woke up and as he went out of his room to train.
"So what's the message we received?" he asked as he also stood back up. While his sight was not on Anton, his attention was. He was listening to what he had to say. Question was, what Yumiko decided to do. If she chose to follow Ryoichi's instructions, he would teach her the art of punching which she from earlier demonstration is lacking.
"Now pay attention." he found a small pause among the talk to instruct Yumiko. "Form your hand into a ball, but don't hold onto your thumb. The thumb has to stay out. Thumb in, the chance of breaking the fingers. Don't squeeze your fist right now, keep it balled, but loose." as he instructed, he himself did it.
As he was standing straight, not in any fighting stance, he slowly moved his left fist forward. "At first, you slowly move your fist forward, the balled fist still loose, the area of palm pointed up somewhat." as the arm was reaching out with the fist, he turned the fist slowly so the thumb area would now be horizontal, performing a perfect slow punch.
"Right before you reach the contact, you twist the wrist so the knuckles would be forward and thumb area horizontally, and squeeze the fist. Now notice the hand and the wrist." he would motion with his right hand for Yumiko to pay attention. "The wrist is perfectly straight. Your index finger and middle finger knuckles facing forward. These two are the most important knuckles, these cause the most damage."
He would point the fist up a bit on his straightened arm. "Point up, break your wrist.", he would then point the fist down with the same straightened arm. "Point down, break your wrist aswell. Of course, the chances aren't one hundred percent, but it has happened. Hence why we wrap our wrists and hands. It's a small extra safety measure."
Ryoichi smiled as he then lowered his fist and turned back to Yumiko. "If you want, you can try now. Simple punch in the air, you can go as slow or as fast as you want. Don't worry about your stance for now." it was now time to see how well Yumiko learned, but most importantly... How well he taught... After all, it's his first time.

At Ryoichi's approval, Anton stepped into the room. His time working with Yumiko had taught him not to take everything at face value, so there was no fear of this situation being mistaken for something...untoward. A quick scan of everything gave Anton all the info he needed to know.
"Ah! Good idea Ryoichi." He knew Yumiko had been on edge lately, partly because she didn't have access to her blade. Indeed, learning another way to defend herself might help her nerves a little. "Pay close attention Yumiko. The man knows what he's talking about." Anton himself had some means of fighting back without his swords, though he more used his feet. Leave the fisticuffs to the boxer.
As Ryoichi began his lesson, Anton walked over to the bed, setting down the notice for them to see. "It's a schedule of the different games that are being held today," Anton explained, "Alcibiades wants to know which of our crew is taking part in which. One crew member per game per day." He looked over at Ryoichi, "Since you're the acting captain, I'll let you decide which of us goes where. Whenever you're ready of course."
Anton had felt Ryoichi had some good leadership qualities, and this seemed like a good a time as ever for him to test them out.

Yumiko nodded upon receiving her newest orders. A lesson... So be it. She stepped close to Ryoichi, ignoring any notion of personal space. Her keen gaze focused on his hands. It was the cold, calculating stare of a predator. She leaned even closer, clearly taking the order far too literally.
Well, at the very least the boxer now had her undivided attention.
The silent student watched closely, as the instructor demonstrated the proper form. As always when learning, she tried to empty her mind and simply take in everything presented. An imaginary quill jotted down every last note, committing it to memory. Understanding it all was an entirely different matter, however.
Like a living shadow, the warrior carefully mimicked the motions. Her fist curled into a tight ball, before she reminded herself to keep it loose. She took her time adjusting the position of her hand. No, that was too much upwards... Now it pointed too far down... Perhaps that was the correct position? She wasn’t sure.
The hardest part of learning a new style of fighting was forgetting the old one. Even now, as the swordswoman did her very best to follow the instructions, her training was fighting for control. The motions felt unnatural. Wrong. This was not how one would swing any kind of sword, her reflexes kept nagging at her.
Yumiko cast a hesitant glance at the teacher, when he told her to throw a simple punch. What did that even mean? Wasn’t a punch just a punch? What even separated a simple punch from a complicated one? Questions swarmed her mind like mites, blackening the pages of her internal notebook.
Taking a deep breath, the student gathered her focus. The world around her lost all meaning for a moment. It didn’t exist. She didn’t really throw a punch, as much as she went through the motions with deliberate slowness. Forward... Twist... Squeeze... Each step was played in slow motion. Then she withdrew her hand, reversing the motions as she returned to her starting stance.
Ultimately, the swordwoman’s punch looked hollow. Mechanical. All the motions were there, but they lacked enthusiasm. They had no soul. She was simply copying instructions without truly understanding the purpose of each movement. It would take a lot of training before she would be ready for a proper fistfight. Even then, a seasoned scrapper would see right through her.
After brief deliberation, Yumiko turned to Ryoichi. “...” Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise that she had lost her voice. Her blunt comment would’ve probably accidentally insulted the proud boxer. Or maybe not. Still, comparing this to a kata of tai chi was kind of ignorant at best.
The Wano woman’s attention was finally drawn to the message. As she studied the paper, her confusion returned. Some of the names were strange, others outright nonsensical. Roll Off? Statue Game? Eating Contest? She blinked and leaned closer, trying to confirm if she was even reading these right. What... manner of twisted sports were these...?

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!

"Excellent Yumiko, we got the initial form down, that's good." he smiled and showed a thumb up to her, indicating she did a good job, question is, does she know that it means that? "In a few moments, I'll teach you more, if you wish to learn." it is however still very unfortunate that he could not understand what she said... Perhaps it was for the best?
He then shifted his attention to the matter at hand, the different matter. The games. He folded his arms as he listened to what Anton had to say about him being the acting captain... There was a big but, however. "I am but a captain in disguise, in private matters such as this where it's just our crew, I am but a petty officer."
But he let out a soft sigh. He was not in the mood to discuss who is who at this very moment. Instead, his curiosity got the best of him and he set his sight at the paper, reading out the games they got over there. Â "Roll out... Statue game... Eating contest... Obstacle Course... Dodgeball... Tag... Wife carrying?" The heck is wife carrying?"
He blinked at the name of that course, leaving some of the names left without reading. He then read the description out loud. "A man carries a woman to go over multiple different obstacles... Sounds like an obstacle course with extra steps." he then shifted his sight at the obstacle course. "Inspired by Shinobi from the distant lands of Wano. Are you ready to take on scary heights and dangerous obstacles? That's quite  a description... Very vague.""
He rubbed his chin as he stopped without reading the rest of the names. "Hmm... We don't have to participate in all of those games, right? We don't really have that big of a crew." the decision on who he assigns to each course had to wait... But he had some general ideas brewing. He first needed some information, especially for his latest question.

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!

"Consider this a small exercise in planning and leadership," Anton replied with a smile, "After all, you don't want to remain a petty officer forever, do you?" He didn't think Ryoichi was deserving of a promotion earlier for no reason. A little experience in the leadership role never hurt.
At Ryoichi's question regarding the games, Anton gave a small sigh. "Indeed. There are eight games taking place today, and we need a representative in all of them. And with Doc Black taken out due to being on the medical team, that leave us three, Melanie and Celia. We would need to pull three from the rank and file to fill the rest." He looked at the pair before him. "Fortunately, provided we win some strong hitters to our side, we can use them over the next few days."
Anton looked over the games. Eight in all. Roll Out, Statue Game, Eating Contest, Obstacle Course, Wife Carry, Tag, Dodgeball and the Tower Climb. Roll Out seemed to involve balancing on a long, rotating log, trying to be the last man standing. The Eating contest and Dodgeball were self explanatory. The Statue Game involved adopting various posing and trying to keep as still as possible. Tag seemed to involve tagging the others with markers and trying to have as few on you as possible in the time limit. Finally, Tower Climb seemed to be a race to the top of a climbing tower.
Anton thought for a moment. "I'll let you make the final call, but I have some suggestions. I can volunteer for Rollout. Yumiko's speed would make her ideal for either Tag or the Obstacle Course. With your body strength, you might be good for the Wife Carry Ryoichi. Or maybe the Eating Contest, judging from last night." He gave a small chuckle before looking at the program again.
"Melanie could probably handle the Statue Game. Celia could probably go into whichever game Yumiko doesn't." Anton's eyes narrowed. "But the big problem is the Dodgeball. It's a team event, meaning if we lose, we lose one of our own. At least with the others, losing gives us a four out of five chance of keeping our man."
Anton turned his attention back to Yumiko and Ryoichi, "Any suggestions? Opinions?"

Curiosity got the best of the Wano woman. Sadly, curiosity didn’t grant wisdom. The more she studied the paper, the more confused she grew. None of these made any sense... Except for Obstacle Course and Wife Carrying, which both sounded strikingly similar to the harsh training performed by honorable shinobi and kunoichi.
When Anton made the mistake of asking for opinions, Yumiko’s hand immediately shot up, as if she was a kid in a classroom. “...” Tapping the paper insistently, she volunteered for the Obstacle Course. ...But purely because it had been recommended. And certainly not because she was hoping to live out a fantasy of being an enchanting kunoichi. S-such ideas were childish after all...
While the central idea of Davy Back Brawl had been mentioned in passing during the first briefing, the Wano woman wasn’t sure she wanted to believe it. Much less understand it. “...?” She asked with distinct disbelief and panic in her tone. What on earth had Anton meant by ‘winning some strong hitters’?
Surely it didn’t mean they would join forces with... pirates.
Mulling over the thought, a cold comment slipped from the soldier’s lips. “...” After a brief moment, she lowered her gaze. “..." Shaking her head, she rejected the very notion and profusely apologized for jumping to conclusions. She must have misunderstood once again. It happened a lot after all.
More importantly, the warrior had further questions. “...?” She pressed the matter, practically begging for clarification. Indeed, to the loyal soldier, the mere idea of losing their own was abhorrent. It had to be another misunderstanding, one she hoped to clear immediately. The desire to know more burned intensely in her eyes.

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!

"The rules truly are troublesome... Lose and lose a man... Just like in battle, giving the opponent an edge." he rubbed his chin as he let out a sigh at the first troublesome part... But he could not help and mention the second troublesome part. "It is also unfortunate that we have to compete in all of the competitions."
This came from pure worry for his crew. It was not a matter of trust. He trusted them all, even the mouthy ones for now. He simply however knew, that not everyone was up to par with the pirate groups they were to face... Even he wasn't strong enough to take all of them on, probably.
He was walking around the room, "Hmm..." he was thinking audibly to himself for a brief moment. He could then notice Yumiko's pointing at the obstacle course, to which he couldn't help but nod. "You are right, that would be perfect for you Yumiko. That's one settled." one down, multiple others to go.
"I am hesitant about you and roll out game, not because you would be bad at it, but we would need someone for wife-carrying. I don't think you fare that well in an eating contest unless you can expand yourself like a balloon hence why I should take on the eating. Unless we got someone willing from the crew to join the wife carrying, I feel you would be the best for it, Rear Admiral. The only challenge with that is to find a female to carry. We don't have many of them with us."
The second was down unless there was any protest. He now had to think for others. "Statue game can fit Melanie. She's a Kuja warrior, probably has been a huntress... Patience and staying still are part of good hunting."
And that was three down so far. Now was prime time to hear any suggestions, ideas, or perhaps protests about his current decisions. "How flexible and balance-oriented is Celia? Frankly, I don't know her that much." An idea was brewing, the question was... Is it the right one? What the people in the room answer to will ultimately decide that.

Anton gave a quiet nod as he listened in to his team's input. Yumiko seemed more than eager to partake in the obstacle course. He should have expected as much. The description did mention Wano after all.
Ryoichi's suggestion of him doing the wife carry worked too. "Finding a woman to carry won't be a problem," Anton replied, "OK, so we have Yumiko on the obstacle course, you in the eating contest, me in the wife carry, and Melanie in the statue game."
At Ryoichi's question about Celia, Anton thought for a moment. "The Dodgeball," he concluded, "She's quick on her feet and has pretty good accuracy. Plus her small size would make her a hard target to hit. She's lacking in the power front, but hopefully whatever teammates she has can cover her on that."
That left Roll Out, Tag and the Tower Climb. "We'll have to sign whoever onto those three. Either they'll win, or thry get outperformed enough that whoever does win decides not to pick them."
It was at this point that Anton noticed Yumiko's reaction to all of this. And as if by some strange cosmic coincidence, Anton seemed to understand what the Wano woman was trying to say. "Yes Yumiko, the winner of each game picks one of the losers to join their crew. That's what will happen when we win as well. Which means, yes, you are going to have to work together with pirates. I know this is hard for you. I know you've never trained for this. But this is our assignment, so please try to endure."
Anton then picked up the program. "If there's nothing else, I can let Alcibiades know what the set up is. Then we can focus on getting ready before the games begin."

When Ryoichi agreed, Yumiko pumped her fist with silent enthusiasm. She quickly recovered though, hiding her excitement behind that icy mask. Still, her heart fluttered at the thought of a dream coming true...
The rest of the confusing games went over the warrior’s head. Ultimately she just nodded to each one, trusting the new captain’s judgment. However, her gaze narrowed into a strange stare when the topic of finding someone to carry was brought up. She briefly cast an odd, pointed glance at the men, before looking away.
Finally, the puzzled woman was presented with some answers. She listened closely, trying her best to internalize and understand. Once the explanation was over and the command given, she didn’t even need to mull it over. Determination burned behind her cold eyes.
“...”
Like a hammer coming down on a nail, the refusal was swift, blunt and decisive. How could two simple words hit so hard? To further clarify, if it was even necessary, the warrior crossed her forearms to form a big X. “...” Shaking her head, she vehemently rejected the very idea.
In hindsight, the overly honest had been a poor match for this mission from the very beginning. Only now her stubborn ideals started really clashing against the objective. To say she hadn’t trained for this was a huge understatement. She had actively trained against this and engraved the evils of piracy deep into her mind.
And now Sir Anton wanted her to go against everything she knew.
Impossible.
It may have been rare for the loyal soldier to refuse orders, a first with her current leader in fact, but not unheard of. Over the years, most of the slips ordering a crew transfer had shared one peculiar reason... Insubordination. She did always call herself a samurai first and a marine second.
Pushing the troubling thoughts aside, Yumiko quietly excused herself. “...” Turning her back to her allies, she stepped over to the cabin window. Her gaze wandered into the distance, searching for something that couldn’t be found out there. She took a deep breath and sat down, cross-legged. Closing her eyes and bringing her hands together, she slowly sharpened her focus.
She would follow the orders as far as these strange games were concerned...
But she would never ally herself with those vile criminals.

Slowly but surely the decisions were being made, ones that favored each and every one of them in the very room they were in... Did they favor others, however, is completely another story. Nevertheless, they seemed to try to find everyone's strengths and weaknesses and capitalize on them.
"Excellent. As for the tag, roll out and tower climb, need to find some people from our crew who meet some criteria. For the tag, we need someone swift on their feet and who is able to be aware of their surrounding. I'd suggest finding our biggest snitch here, as bad of a word as it is. he couldn't help but chuckle slightly, "Our gossip boy might fit the bill for this."
"Rollout needs someone with good balance, someone light. Since Celia is already taken, it needs to be someone else." for that he did not really have any suggestions as to who they should choose, but he could give suggestions on what one should look in that said person... The same can be said about the tower climbing event.
"Tower climb is another difficult one, but if the event looks as how I imagine it will, the man or woman should have good upper body strength. That will probably matter the most to reach the top." That event could fit Ryoichi aswell, but he shall consume a lot of calories, putting his body on the line! As if he didn't already do that daily.
That should about wrap up that discussion. The decisions had been made, finally... Now there was a different topic at hand. One that seemed to disturb Yumiko a lot, even if she could not completely express it audibly. But, to be frank, it did bother Ryoichi aswell. It carried a certain set of danger. A pirate that close to them could equal cover being blown. But that was not the only thing that bothered him... Despite him being more open-minded about pirates and their decisions on becoming one... He was not trusting of them.
"To be fair, it is troublesome, dangerous in fact. I am sure we got others among us who could react to this idea as Yumiko did... But more audibly and less self-absorbed. Not to mention, what shall we do with them IF we manage to win the games?"

Re: [Saga] [Part 2] Let the Games Begin!
Wed Feb 16, 2022 12:45 pm
When Yumiko had initially been assigned to this crew, Anton had read the reports of insubordination with some confusion. Yumiko had seemed loyal and obedient to a fault. But as time went on, Anton had learned that she was a woman very heavily set in her ways, and it was only a matter of time before her view of the world clashed with her orders. And this was finally the big block.
Anton gave a small sigh. In truth, he hadn't been the one to chose this assignment. He was following orders just like the rest of them. "That's always a risk, and I can only hope the knowledge that we're deep in hostile territory will keep them quiet. When we do eventually win the pirates, we'll need to keep up the facade no matter what. Once the games are over and we're safely away from everyone else, we'll link up with the Grand Steamer and place them into custordy." If his superiors thought Anton was going to try and capture all six crews, they were utterly insane. They would have to deal with what they could bring in.
"Fortunately, this lot seem a relaxed bunch. So just keep calm, keep up your roles, and we'll get out of this intact. You guys haven't let me down yet, I know you can do this. And I'm confident the others can too."
He rolled up the program and stuck it in his pocket, "I'll work out our last two contestants. I'm sure we have someone here that can work. In the meantime, I think we're long overdue for following Ryoichi's suggestion. We need to make sure we're warmed up for the contests." He gave Ryoichi a smile, showing the man's suggestion for e ercising hadn't been utterly ignored.
Following Ryoichi's suggestion, Anton had signed Bowork up for the Tag, though there was a small part of him that wanted to see the loud mouth roughed up a bit. For the Roll Out, Anton had figured Phillipe was a good choice. The young man was quite spritely, so something that focused on balance would work for him. For the Ladder Climb, Anton had selected a man named Lucas. Lucas was a big guy, and had always been helpful with carrying crates and barrels of supplies when they were in port. A strong guy like him certainly worked for this.
Celia and Melanie had taken their assigned games in stride. When it came to who Anton would carry in the Bride Carry, Lune and Sol were more than happy to volunteer. And then came the argument of which one Anton would carry. They were still arguing about it when they left, promising to meet up at the game. Well, at least this argument didn't lead to fireballs and ice being thrown around.
And from then on out, it was Ryoichi's show. Anton let him take the lead, leading them through exercises until it came time for the games to begin.
The first four games would be Roll Out, the Eating Contest, the Statue Game, and the Obstacle Course.
