Re: [Episode] Burning Bridges
Sun Mar 07, 2021 9:02 pm
Ebony’s lips turned to a tight lipped frown. If he believed things were as simple as that, then he was deadly wrong. “I can provide for myself.” Ebony remarked. Whether or not her father planned to kill or plot against her, then it would be something she needed to handle herself. Looking to Curtis for help meant she owed him another one. Something she refused to do.
“What I want is to be given control of all of my assets once I leave.” Ebony crossed her long legs as she relaxed into her chair. “My leaving means that you start over.” She’d be more than willing to leave him the mafia’s name. However, that did not mean that all of her work would remain in his hands. “I’ll be taking some of the men with me. I’m not leaving empty handed.”
Curtis laughed at her straight-forward answer. It was one of the reasons he enjoyed having her around. She provided him entertainment with her spirited nature but it was also one of the reasons he wanted her gone. Ebony was unstable when it came down to it. Not something he wanted to deal with once he took control of the family.
“Ebony, dear.” He’d say as if talking to a child. “You know things don’t work that way.” He watched as the woman’s eyes turned frigid which immediately caused him to pick up his guard. However, he would let it down as an idea dawned to him. “However,” He began as he gestured towards the man he had brought. “I’d be more than happy to comply if you took Giancarlo with you.”
Curtis did not wait for Ebony to reply as a grin etched across his face. “As a sign of good faith, of course.” He let the woman process the idea. He knew she would have immediately turned it down if he had continued to refuse her request. However, it would all be worth it so long as Giancarlo provided intel on Ebony. After all, he did not trust the woman in the least.
Ebony remained silent as she processed Curtis’ words. It wasn’t a bad deal but it also meant that she would be inviting a thorn into her group. One that she had planned on killing once the meeting had reached its end. Unfortunately, if she wanted things to go her way, she had no other choice but to agree with his compromise.
Ebony turned her gaze to Giancarlo with a look of indifference before looking back at Curtis. She finally shrugged as if to show that it did not bother her in the slightest. “I have no qualms with that.” Ebony said. She, after all, could bring him down if it came down to it. “However, that does not mean that my group and I belong to you. You give him to me, then he is mine. Simple as that.”
Curtis threw open his arms in a dramatic manner. “Of course, of course.” He said with a jolly laugh. He paid no mind to the man as he made his way towards the window. “He’ll be a tremendous help. A helmsman to take with you on your journey.” Curtis nodded to himself as he then ignored his subordinate’s remark. He figured it was a good deal. So long as Ebony was willing to cooperate.

Giancarlo made no further mention of the gathering foes at their gates, given that the two self important mafiosos thought it better to not acknowledge his presence until it was necessary. Reinforcing in his mind that he was naught more than a pawn in the game between warring wolves.
He'd roll his eyes, turning back his attention to the pair before he moved closer at the gesture of his boss Curtis. He knew that his purpose was clear cut: report back on the movements of one Ebony d'Etth. He thought the entire ordeal to be a waste of time.
They should have just killed her off and pinned it on the Princeps, then let the Princeps take out Hubert.
But this was the route that his boss wished to take, so he'd make sure to go ahead and play up his loyalty to this new bit- woman as best as he could. As he found himself being introduced as a helmsman, he still couldn't believe how easily this woman got away with talking to Curtis in this manner.
He was going to introduce himself, but he didn't want to interrupt anything. The moment that he was allowed to speak, however. He told her exactly what it was he was good at.
"A pleasure to meet you, my name is Giancarlo Giotti."
He spoke to her as respectfully as he could. Making sure to feign a sense of submission to his 'new employer' even if personally he didn't trust this woman in the slightest.
"I can pilot all manner of vehicles. Combat wise I can fight as well as any other goon within the family. I like to fight from a distance with my pistols. But I can scrap if people get close enough."
He gave her an honest overview of how he was and even pulled out his pistols to show her the pair that he carried. The both were long-barreled gold platted flintlocks, each one showcasing engravements on them that looked like wolf heads.
He knew that she would get to see them in action sooner rather than later. Much sooner.
Taking a moment to look back towards the entryway, he was sure it was only a matter of time before those miscreants came busting through the door.

"A pleasure to meet you, my name is Giancarlo Giotti." The man respectfully introduced himself to her. Ebony, on the other hand, was not in the mood to feign formalities. He was extra baggage she needed to watch out for. An obvious spy that Curtis had given her to take on her journey. Not that the small fry posed any real danger to her.
Ebony raised an eyebrow in mild curiosity as Giancarlo highlighted his expertise. She had to admit that if what he said was true, they had use for him. They needed someone to operate their mode of transportation until, at the very least, she and Adonis found someone else they could trust. However, it also meant that Giancarlo could prove to be an obstacle.
The man pulled out his flintlock pistols in the idea of showing them to her. Ebony, however, was not at all impressed. Had it been prior to her agreement to take him with her, she would have used it as an excuse to dispose of him. Ebony turned to Curtis and gave him a slight nod. She said nothing but Curtis was quick in picking up her unspoken words.
“Perfect,” He said as he took a puff of his cigar. He was satisfied things had all been going well. Now, they could focus on culling the nearby pests. “Now that it’s all settled, we ca-” BAM! The door would be kicked open by a group of men all wearing the same colored suit most famously known to the Princeps. Ebony and Curtis, however, did not flinch.
“Ah, gentlemen.” Curtis spoke in a nonchalant manner. He moved the hand with his cigar in a flourish. “We were expecting you.” Curtis would look at Giancarlo with a look of feigned diplomacy. “Do take care of them, will you?” He tapped his cigar onto the ashtray before looking at Ebony. He’d let her see firsthand Giancarlo’s work.

As men busted into the room, Giancarlo took a moment to put one of his pistols away so that he could grab ahold of his cigarette, plopping it into mouth and light the end with a lighter that he removed from his breast pocket.
While he had finished the cigar from earlier by now, habits of a chainsmoker and all, he often needed to smoke so that he could focus during stressful situations.
There were few situations as stressful as right now.
"As you wish." He groaned despite the fact that he did his best to sound professional.
This was as much a punishment for himself as it would be for Ebony.
Giancarlo rolled his eyes with annoyance before he pointed his guns at the entryway and unloaded hot lead with a thunderous crack. The extended barrels on his guns allowed for his bullets to travel a greater distance and at this close of a range that meant they could sling their way through someone's body with relative ease.
This assaulted allowed for the minions in the doorway to move back and scatter out of the way as one of their number found themselves falling over with a bullet wound straight through his shoulder.
Giancarlo wasn't exactly sure if he was meant to let these individuals live or if he was supposed to kill them all. But one thing was for certain. These goons wouldn't have been able to track himself and Curtis to this location. Meaning that they were only here now due to the bitch with the silver hair.
How nice.
There was a level of finesse to how he handled his guns, moving towards the entrance and sticking both of his hands to either side, pulling the triggers of his flintlocks repeatedly. Making sure to aim towards the heads of his opponents so that they had to move back and regroup.
This was child's play really, but it didn't mean he could get overconfident. Not all of his opponents were armed with rudimentary weapons.
He felt a bullet whiz by his head and so he made his way across the street, placing his back up against an alley as he peaked his head out. Wondering what exactly he did to deserve this fate. All he wanted was to lounge around and have a stiff drink. But alas he found himself having to showcase his other talents.
He began to focus in carefully on the sounds around him, utilizing the one skill he had that made him stand out amongst a sea of mafiosos.
He could let his bullets ricochet off objects depending on the angle he fired.

As Curtis gave Giancarlo his orders, Ebony decided to relax somewhat and watch to see if the lackey was able to follow through effortlessly. Curtis, after all, had taken the opportunity to design this show just for her. Not that it mattered in the long run as she knew it would only be a matter of time before she and Curtis jumped into the fray.
“Splendid, no?” Curtis asked Ebony in a manner to continue their small talk. “It’s not hard to rile these idiots up. Rumors, after all, can be a dangerous thing.” He’d look at Ebony with a mischievous grin. “Speaking of which...” He leaned back against his chair. “Your little doctor. How is he?” He made sure to keep his eyes trained for any subtle changes of expression.
Ebony, not liking the way this conversation was going, immediately went stoic. She preferred not to talk about Adonis considering his state of mind at the moment. However, she also knew that there was no way Curtis could issue a command against her or her confidant. Therefore, she needed to see what it was he wanted.
“Just like you’d expect him to be.” Ebony replied coolly. “Nothing more that would be worth mentioning.” Curtis grinned mischievously as he looked at the folder he had given her. He stretched out his hand to take it, sliding it closer to him. He nodded to himself as he mulled over her words. After a brief moment of silence, he would talk.
“Oh?” That single word irked the woman but she kept her mouth shut. “From what I hear, you two seem to be rather close.” He opened the folder and shuffled through the drawings. Had she accepted his aid, he would have let know the true plan her father had for her. However, she had declined his graciousness and so he planned to watch her break.
Of course, he was all the more curious between the relationship she had with the eccentric doctor. It would be a lie if he said he had not seen the way she had let things pass with him. Unfortunately, that also meant that Adonis had the possibilities of being her greatest weakness. He just needed Giancarlo to confirm such rumors as truth.
For now, he decided to make do with Ebony’s version of events. He grinned inwardly as the woman’s tight lipped expression morphed into a scowl. However, he continued to pry on knowing she could do nothing about it. “Unless, of course, they were all simply rumors? Although…” His words trailed off to give the illusion of wonder. “Rumors all derive from truths.”

Oh boy... they truly were not going to aid him in taking out these Princep fuckboys. Great, just what he always wanted. Not that it was a big deal in the long run. He could tell that no-one of note was here. Though it was odd that the Princeps were continuing to expand their territory on Baterilla. Especially given the fact that they were a bigger family out in Paradise.
This must have ben where they sent all of their runts of the litter. It would explain a lot. But corpses were eventually going to ignite a gang war between the Golden Wolves and the Princeps. Especially if things continued in the manner that they had thus far.
Going to war against the Princeps full scale would be a bad idea... and if he had recalled correctly. Wasn't there supposed to be some meeting between the two Dons, Hubert d'Etth and Walter Princep soon?
He had overheard a call from Curtis describing that Walter had sent Damian here for some reason. Though there wasn't enough information exchanged for Giancarlo to get a solid idea of what was going on. Hell he didn't even know why someone would come all the way out here to the South Blue anyway. Especially if they were some sort of a big shot.
"C'mon already ya little bitches. You're wasting my time..." He sounded even more irked now than he did before.
Not because he didn't want to assassinate all of the foes that presented themselves here. But rather due to the fact that each and every one of these opponents found themselves with more luck than they deserved. He didn't want his named attached to whatever kind of fallout or blowback that came with personally killing members of the Princep family.
So that meant he had to take his time in torturing them... in making them flee.
Killing these men on their own turf was not the same as killing them when they came into Golden Wolf territory.
He let a few bullets ring out with deadly accuracy. Hitting several of the opponents through their shins, elbows, forearms and other locations that caused them to hobble around like a bunch of injured chickens. He was merciful because he understood the game that was at hand.

Needless to say, Curtis was getting on Ebony’s nerves. However, she kept herself calm while shooting him a bored look. “Rumors are over exaggerations of what most could potentially consider as a truth.” Ebony shrugged without a care in the world as she shifted to a more comfortable position in her seat.
Curtis nodded as he took his time to answer. It was clear he would not be given much information on her beloved doctor but that did not deter him from sending his own men to access him. He knew Ebony had never taken an interest in anyone so that, in itself, was enough to gauge his importance to her. If only she would admit it.
“Wise words,” Curtis said as he took a puff from his cigar. He was nearly done with it and so he reached into his coat pocket to pull out another one. He figured that their talk would take a little while longer. “Although I am not so keen to agree.” He shrugged as if to let the matter go. “No matter. Simply consider it as curiosity from this old man.”
Ebony narrowed her eyes. She said nothing but it did not deter the man from continuing to speak. “I’m sure you’ve seen a lot more activity from the Priceps, no?” Ebony graced his inquiry with a nod. “Are you not at all curious as to why that is?” He exchanged his cigar for the new one. Lighting him up, he’d relax in his chair awaiting for her answer.
Ebony, on the other hand, frowned. He had been egging her on since the very beginning but she was adamant in not taking his bait. Especially if it meant he would ensnare her in his web. Curtis seemed to have read her mind. “For you, Ebony, it’ll be free of charge.” He took one of the pictures in his folder and slid it down towards her.
“That man there is Walter Princep.” He motioned for her to take it. “He’ll be a very important figure in the near future.” He watched as Ebony’s lips turned to that of a frown. “Of course, more information in that regard comes with a price. Unless, of course, you would like to exchange something for it?”

What? Return fire? These men definitely meant business, much to the chagrin of Giancarlo. Even with his skillful flourish and accurate ricochets, he was unable to convince these opponents to retreat. Perhaps it was because he was an intruder in their turf... and to turn coward in one's own territory was the same as sighing your own death warrant.
This meant that his fight was far from over and he was even getting scrapped and grazed by incoming fire due to his lack of positional supremacy.
Which annoyed the fuck out of him.
He took the time to notice that even now... still... no one came to fucking help him. which was a pain in the ass especially due to the fact that Giancarlo wasn't the kind of guy that enjoyed doing things where he could gain praise or gloat about the events at a later point in time.
It didn't matter either way. What mattered here and now was the absolute desolation of the enemy forces... which meant that Giancarlo could no longer mess around. Especially since injuring these enemies was not enough to cause them to retreat.
Stubborn mules often needed to be put down if they failed to ever become malleable.
"Guys, we're allowed to hang out here. So long as we aren't doing business. So just back off. Sheesh." His exacerbated sigh seemed to grow stronger as he emptied his pistols and pulled out a special green cartridge that he loaded into his weapons proper.
The small symbol on each cartridge being that of a hazard symbol.
He took in a deep breath and relaxed his entire body. Becoming less rigid and making his limbs less jointed, preparing to use his natural physical abilities in conjunction with acrobatics.
"Poison Porcupiner..."
He'd sprint towards a wall, run up the side of it just enough to gain a small amount of momentum before backflipping and turning his body into the shape of a contorted ball. Firing his pistols rapidly in every direction. Causing a hailstorm of ricocheting bullets to bust out in any and all directions.
Due to their special properties of the bullets, the moment they seemed to make contact with cloth they exploded releasing a small cloud of nauseous gas. The gas eating away at the opponent's clothing and causing burns upon the skin of anyone hit by them.
Which was just about everyone in the area.
Looking up, he inhaled softly before yawning to himself. Just how long was this fucking meeting going to take? Oh well, he'd best just hunt down anyone who managed to get away from the burning chemicals. And so he did, walking at a calm pace down the alleyway, looking for any stragglers to shoot in the face with his special ammunition.

Ebony paid no attention to Curtis’ words as she looked over the image. Her eyes scanned the page as a frown formed upon her lips. Although his name nor his appearance rang any bells, Ebony could tell that he truly resembled the coward she had come to know as Damien. At least, from his appearance. From his overconfident smirk to the way he dressed in the picture, she could already tell she was going to hate him.
However, what Curtis had said bothered her. Everyone knew that the Princeps had been very active in their turf. It had seemed quite strange considering their overconfidence but, if the man Walter was one of their higher-ups, then that proved to be a problem. In fact, it made her feel even more uneasy taking into consideration that she had been closed off from their discussions.
She met Curtis’ eyes. It irked her that he was dangling information but, whether or not it was worth it, was the problem. Ebony sighed as she slid the image back to him. “I’ll take my chances.” Regardless of what the man had done for her, she knew she could not trust him in the same regard that he could not trust her.
However, she appreciated him nonetheless. He was the only one who treated her like family despite the ulterior motives he had. Not that she could blame him considering the fact that he had been cheated out of his position. Ebony sat back in her chair as she relaxed her posture.
"Very well, then." Curtis replied to her with a shrug. It didn't bother him that she still refused. Instead, it made things a lot more interesting. He turned his head towards the door and signaled her an order before sliding her one of his spare revolvers. Ebony clicked her tongue in disapproval but took it nonetheless.
She nodded towards Curtis as they both stood from their chairs. They headed towards the entrance and took position at each end of the door. The two remained quiet and listened to the approaching footsteps. They waited until a couple of unsuspecting Princeps opened the door.
Upon seeing both men's attire, the two unloaded unto the closest body. The bodies collapsed at the door as their expressions remained forever frozen in horror. Curtis stepped over the fallen bodies as Ebony followed suit. They could still tell there were a few men left but, if Giancarlo hadn't gotten to them yet, then they would step in to clean up.

Five. Giancarlo found himself walking at a relaxed pace, holstering his pistols so that he could allow for his special gun holsters to heat up the poison rounds a bit. This way each of the rounds would explode the moment that the rounds made contact with another party.
He extended the barrels outwards after giving each a small window of time to garner up heat, finding the survivors as they attempted to duck behind corners and hide within alleyways. Pulling the trigger he dropped a man who thought a barrel to be prime real estate for hiding away.
Four. There weren't many individuals that could outpace Giancarlo here on the island. He had long sense been far too strong to be in this Blue, at the very least. Yet this is where he was sent. He didn't complain about his assignments.
But having to do this work under Curtis was growing old and tiresome, especially since he was being overlooked on things that were otherwise very simple. Such as having his advice ignored and then being made to handle a problem all on his own.
It wasn't that he lacked the ability to do so, but he just found himself to be exceptional in many other things as well. He didn't need to be cosigned to the fate of merely executing people and driving a ship.
Three found itself when a bullet ricocheted off a lamp post and hit the man square in the eye.
Two was not too far behind given that the same bullet that blinded a man busted open and ignited against an open flame, causing a small explosion the size of a bottle-rocket.
Finding the last guy was easier than he first assumed, considering that the mafioso thought it a wise decision to try and double back. Stopping in place once he saw two shadowy figures on the road that could be none other than Curtis and Ebony.
But the poor sod had no chance to react before his own story would abruptly close as well.
"One."
Three shots rang out and three shots exploded. Causing a massive amount of burn damage to them man's back, including the back of his neck. Rendering the man's brain stem completely fried as his body toppled over.
Giancarlo would be visible once the toxic fog dissipated. His face as irritable as ever. He had seemingly smoked his cigarette down to the bud. Flicking the filter away after snatching it from his own lips.
He'd approach his two employers and make a dismissive gesture with his hands.
"Should I remove the bodies or are we sending a message?" He hoped that they would remove the bodies. He didn't want to start anything with the Princeps at the moment.
But with these two, you never knew what outcome you'd get.

Having stepped out into the open proved to be quite the unnecessary task given as Giancarlo had dealt with almost all of them. He had, without a doubt, proven himself to be quite the capable man considering he had gone off to handle the remaining men on his own. She inspected his work with mild interest. She’d keep a closer eye on him now that he was to join her.
The fog dissipated revealing the man of the hour. Not that he deserved much praise given the fact that both she and Curtis had to deal with a couple of thugs themselves. However, she let it go seeing as he had shown her that he wasn’t completely useless. His next words, on the other hand, made her reconsider. "Should I remove the bodies or are we sending a message?"
Ebony raised an eyebrow. Unless he was looking to get the family wrapped up in a disadvantageous situation, he knew the answer to that. “Remove them.” Curtis said. Ebony gave him a nod in agreement. They were in the outskirts of their territory. Seeing as they were already having issues with the Princeps, she wasn’t willing to invite even more.
Curtis took a moment to look around the parameter before turning to go back inside the building. There was no need for him to remain outside. “Come inside once you’re done.” Curtis said without sparing a glance at Giancarlo. However, he made himself clear that he would take the woman with him. “Ebony. Be a dear and follow me. There are still a few things we need to sort out.”
Ebony did not question Curtis’ judgement. In fact, she had absolutely no problems with it. It was the lackey’s job to clean up, after all. Turning to follow Curtis, Ebony spared no glance towards Giancarlo as she disappeared through the door. Whether or not he followed Curtis’ command was on him.
However, so long as Giancarlo proved himself capable, she decided to allow him to continue living until he was no longer necessary. She was sure Curtis would come to agree. She nodded to herself as she took her seat once more at the table. Curtis took a puff of his cigar and nonchalantly sat back in his chair.
“We’ll be making our way to Paradise soon.” Curtis shrugged as if to show he had no care in the world. “Make sure you attend and...” He let out a sigh. “I hope there isn’t a repeat of what happened there last time.”
Ebony scoffed in feigned offense. Quickly reverting back, Ebony looked straight at Curtis and, in her most unimpressed voice, replied, “That bastard deserved it.” Curtis stared at her before bursting out into a roar of laughter. He could not deny it but, considering what he knew, the same thing would not easily be let go. Especially considering what he knew.
His laughter calmed and, once he had regained his breath, Curtis shook his head in mock disappointment. “Then, be sure to watch out for those two. The Princeps are not people you want to anger. Especially Walter.” Ebony said nothing. The warning was enough to let her know that something would be going down in Paradise.
However, now that she had been informed that she would play a major role in the scheme, Ebony was unsure of whether to look forward to the event or not. “You’ve grown surprisingly soft today.” Ebony mused. Not that she had any reason to complain. Too bad she had already planned his death.
Curtis grinned mischievously. “All in good fun, my dear niece. You help me, I help you.” Ebony returned his grin in equal measure. “However, do not expect me to step in when shit hits the fan in Paradise. You’re on your own.” Ebony nodded in agreement. It was the way of life in the mafia.

Oh... great. He had to clean shit again. How wonderful. There was nothing better than being both an exterminator and a janitor within the same breath. How bountiful a gift to be given by one's employer. Giancarlo wasn't brave enough to voice these complaints aloud, but he was astute enough to know when to keep to himself. No matter how angry he got.
So he watched in complete abject silence as the pair fuck off right back inside the building. Did they come out here to show him that he was moving too slowly? If they didn't appreciate the pace in which he was working then they could have gotten off their lazy asses and helped him.
It was too late to bitch about it now unfortunately. He had already made his case and no matter of pleading with those in power would change anything. Shaking his head in disapproval he started the long and tedious process of collecting each of the dispatched foes that had made their way here. Placing them on an every rising tower of corpses until he ultimately found himself constructing enough bodies to form a reasonably short ladder.
Amused by the prospect of climbing a pile of dead bodies in order to ascend to greater heights, due to that being the literal everyday struggle of your average mafioso,
"Man, I can't wait to retire." He complained to himself softly. Completely aware that one day he would find himself free from all of this gangbanging nonsense in a respectable way. Rather then in a way that would cause his own death.
He took the time to clear up the area and once he had finished, he immediately began to head back inside so that he could go get some crude oil from the kitchen area of the building they were talking in. Heading back towards the bodies, he covered them in oil before tossing his cigar at the pile, watching it ignite and turn into a large signal fire. There would be nothing left of them given the clear skies. His makeshift bonfire of bodies was enough to cause him to be gleeful.
Now he just had to go and talk to his employers once more. To see whatever annoying task they had in mind for him. Not that he cared about being bossed around ad infinitum. It was the essential key to become a higher paid member of the family. And if you weren't in this life for the money, why the fuck where you here?

As the talk between them drew its natural conclusion, Ebony figured that it wouldn’t hurt to poke around for more information regarding the new… recruit. Not that he gave her any reason to care besides the obvious set-up Curtis had created for him
“Giancarlo…” Ebony said in a rather off-handed way. “Are you looking to get rid of him or what?” She gestured towards the door. Sarcastically, Ebony would add in: “Can’t imagine why you’d just send him my way when he seems to diligently follow your orders.”
Curtis shrugged nonchalantly as he gave her a large grin. He knew she wasn’t stupid but it amused him to no end that she was so abrupt about it. Clearly, he was the better option to lead the Golden Wolves seeing as her sarcasm could have gotten her killed.
He also knew that she could not feasibly get rid of his subordinate unless she was looking to declare a war between the two. Not that they both had any means to do so considering how split their faction was.
On the upside, Curtis knew he would enjoy watching Ebony struggle to keep Giancarlo and, as a result, himself out of the loop. Especially if she planned to flee Baterilla at any point in time. His subordinate being a somewhat good shot was an added bonus.
“Ebony, dear,” He said gently almost as if patiently scolding a small child. “He’s been a help to me. I simply wish for him to aid you as he has me.” Curtis nodded in agreement to himself. “Like I said, a sign of good faith.”
Ebony stopped herself from rolling her eyes. She hadn’t expected much but still. “Of course,” She shrugged in an exaggerated manner. “How could I ever doubt your generosity?” This resulted in Curtis giving her an amused laugh.
Taking one last puff of his cigar, Curtis stood up and made his way towards the door. Ebony followed close behind him as they exited the building. Upon seeing Giancarlo, Curtis nodded towards him and then to Ebony.
“It’s settled, then.” Curtis said, clearly satisfied. “I expect you to be useful, Giancarlo. I hope you don’t disappoint.” Not caring to hear an answer, he turned away from the two and walked down towards the road. It was up to them now on how to proceed going forward.
Ebony, however, clicked her tongue as she watched Curtis disappear. Turning her attention towards the added baggage, she’d look him up and down in irritation before gesturing towards the road. “Let’s go.” Whether or not he followed her, she didn’t care.
Hell, if he attempted to attack her, she’d welcome it. It would give her a justified reason to get rid of him as cleanly as possible. After all, no one in Baterilla could best her. “Don’t expect much. We both know why you’re here.”
Better to say it now, she figured, instead of wasting both their times. However, if he still decided to integrate himself, then he would need to work all the harder. She grinned. Of course, it wasn’t like he had a choice. An exploit she was all the more happy to use now that she was given him.

Giancarlo admired his handiwork... though he seemed to be the only person that did.
He took a chance to make sure that the spectacle was eye-catching... and yet neither his original employer nor his new one seemed to even care to throw a passing glance at the pyre he had constructed. This was, disheartening to say the least. But expected. Especially given the words that left Curtis' mouth.
"I understand, thank you for everything Mr. Rigatoni." He nodded his head towards his former employer and made sure to, as always, bite his tongue.
When it came to the power structure of the mafia, you had to learn how to take your licks. Even when you were basically being treated like the absolute scum of the earth by the people whom were supposed to be your family. It had to be due to the fact that they knew he had nowhere else to go.
But oh boy did he just absolutely loved being talked too like he was insignificant. That was the best feeling in the world.
Though he figured that his new boss would treat him better. Despite this glimmer of hope, she seemed to exist only to confirm his worst fears. She knew that he was here to spy on her and given her demeanor, she planned to make his life a living hell as a result. He didn't ask for any of this bullshit. But alas that was his fate.
"I will serve you faithfully, Boss." He stopped himself from rolling his eyes. Knowing damn well that she was the type of person to catch it. So he did his best to smile and rest his hands behind the back of his head. Wondering what level of stupidity this woman had to have in order to allow Curtis to have this much sway over her.
He wouldn't say this out loud of course, especially since he knew her type well.
She was the type of woman that was a bandersnatch. And he definitely didn't wish to be on the menu.

GRADING
ASSESSMENT COMMENTS
- Adonis Ýnami:
+ [Giancarlo found himself here amid the instruction of his employer, Curtis Rigatoni, who had given him the assignment of tailing and recording the actions and whereabouts of one of his associates, one Ebony M. d'Etth.] It's usually not a good idea to start off a story with a whole bunch of names that the reader might not be familiar with.
+ [...reading a book from his favorite author, the enigmatic Skarlet.] It would be cool if you could make up a book name here or even just name a genre that might speak for Giancarlo's character.
+ [Giancarlo would look over to Curtis, reaching over with his hand to take the cigar that was offered to him and placing the expensive indigo-flavored stick into his mouth. He'd light it and spend his time basked in the glow of the candles that were flickering gentle in the dimly lit room. The windows were ajar, only allowing the softest of breezes to enter the room.] You tend to convolute your sentences unnecessarily. This could've been written as something like "Giancarlo reached over to Curtis to accept an indigo-flavoured cigar. He placed it in his mouth before lighting it and basked in the dim glow of a candle-lit room. The flames flickered gently from a breeze blowing through the windows."
+ [But she was far too supple, far too feminine for his tastes.] Lmao, oof. I guess this is one blind date that didn't pan out. Better luck next time, Giancarlo.
+ [Another trait of his was his ability to analyze the various aspects of a person from afar in order to gauge their weaknesses. though he was not anywhere as good as Adonis when it came to such a feat. Still, he did his best to look upon her whenever she wasn't paying full attention to him.] Describing your character's trait in this manner is less interesting than simply showing him doing it.
+ [She had best play, or she'd end up with the same fate as the rest of the lesser pieces on the board. Captured and tossed to the side.] This is appropriately ominous. I like it.
+ You overuse "found himself" a lot. It's almost never necessary.
+ [Especially since he had only believed in this due to the fact that he was currently plastered more than freshly spackled wall.] No idea what this means.
+ [Gian took a moment to stifle a laugh, having realized that this meeting of theirs wasn't going as planned due to the popularity of Ms. d'Etth. He couldn't see the appeal personally, but hoped to get to know her well in time.] I don't see how one interrupting phone call gives Giancarlo the impression that Ebony is popular. This felt like a forced way to talk about Giancarlo's take on her "appeal".
+ [He could let his bullets ricochet off objects depending on the angle he fired.] This was a missed opportunity to be poetic and mysterious. You could've said something short and sweet like "He could make his bullets dance." Then, in the next post, show the ricocheting in action.
+ [Even with his skillful flourish and accurate ricochets, he was unable to convince these opponents to retreat. Perhaps it was because he was an intruder in their turf... and to turn coward in one's own territory was the same as sighing your own death warrant.] Why were they having a meeting on their turf to begin with? I don't think it was addressed so far. Unless I missed something.
+ I liked the countdown from five to one as Giancarlo finished off the Princep assailants.
+ [There would be nothing left of them given the clear skies. His makeshift bonfire of bodies was enough to cause him to be gleeful.] They must've been in an abandoned area. Bystanders (or lack thereof) should've been addressed.
- Ebony M. d'Etth:
+ [More-so as she didn’t want Curtis to be alarmed of her eventual plot against him. Having him trust her, at least temporary, would work in her benefit. Not that he had other choice considering what he had asked her to do.] Exposing this in narration like this is rarely a great idea. Especially this early in the story. You should hint at the impending betrayal, not state it outright. It takes away some mystery otherwise. It's okay to reveal your characters' motivations, but, you should do it subtly or at an opportune moment.
+ [“Who’s he?” She said as irritation began to lace her words.] In cases like this, the use of metaphors would embellish your narration. For example, "she said as venom began to lace her words" or something.
+ [She had never agreed to the second person, after all, so Curtis could not blame her for wanting to permanently silence the man. In doing so, she could make certain that word never reached her father’s ears. She just had to wait until the deal would officially be set before taking action.] This is an example of overexplaining/over-narrating. You can let the reader infer some things.
+ [Ebony turned her attention towards the underboss as she awaited his next words. She figured that a response hadn’t been necessary to his first comment which left the room silent for a grief moment. Curtis, however, would be swift in filling it.] Another example of over-narrating.
+ [Seeing as Ebony was in no mood to play his games, Curtis decided to take a different approach. He knew Ebony wasn’t like her father which meant that it also made things a lot more unpredictable. Not that he minded seeing as how he had raised her. After all, he knew better than anyone that, regardless of where they stood, the plan would be beneficial to them both. So long as she was willing to cooperate.] None of this means anything.
+ [She owed him one so it was only natural that she repay him. Not that she cared much about what happened to her father or the family.] This is filler and completely unnecessary.
+ [After a brief moment, Curtis would nod as he cleared his throat.] You use "would" sometimes when describing the action a character is performing. Whenever you do this, your characters' actions read like hypotheses. Using hypothetical clauses is only acceptable when you're directly interacting with another player's character and you're uncertain of their reactions. For all other actions, you should avoid hypotheses. The quoted sentence should've been written as "After a brief moment, Curtis nodded as he cleared his throat."
+ [PURU PURU PURU] It's nice to see you knew what sound Den Den Mushi make before you even read/watched OP (assuming Brood didn't tell you about this).
+ [After a moment, they came to the silent agreement that the caller, if they decided to attempt the call once more, had decided to try again at a much later time.] Very strange wording.
+ Please avoid rewriting dialogue of other players in your post. I know you're trying to make the dialogue exchange flow better, but, it sets an unfortunate precedent where some people may try to pad out their word count this way.
+ The constant switches in perspective between Curtis and Ebony from paragraph to paragraph are jarring and often break your narrative flow.
+ [...dawned to him.] I noticed a couple of occurences of this. It's "dawned on him", not "dawned to him".
+ [He knew she would have immediately turned it down if he had continued to refuse her request.
Unfortunately, if she wanted things to go her way, she had no other choice but to agree with his compromise.] So much unnecessary overexplaining.
+ It's weird that Curtis and Ebony are talking as if there isn't a loud gunfight happening outside. And I don't mean in an "it reflects their character" kind of way. The narration should at least acknowledge the fight.
- Overall:
+ This was probably one of the cleanest quests I've graded so far in terms of grammar, spelling, and formatting! I appreciated this a lot! I especially liked how Brood is breaking up his paragraphs now. I also noticed that Bacon broke up her paragraphs a lot more too compared to before. Thanks, guys!
+ You guys also did good with the combat rolls. I didn't spot any notable errors.
+ Both of you tend to waste a lot of words on filler thoughts and actions that add nothing of value to the scene, characters, or story. Try to be concise in your scene-setting and character interactions.
There was especially a lot of pointless "wondering", "pondering", and "knowing" going on. That's not to say you can't be introspective. But, introspection should be emotionally challenging, not emotionally tedious. You should use it sparsely to accentuate a scene rather than to pad it.
This entire story could've been told in less than a third of its length and it would've been better off for it.
+ Overall, I was rather disappointed by the plot and characters in this episode. The only parts I actually enjoyed reading were where Adonis was being an oblivious idiot. I have faith you guys will do better next time, whenever that may be.
