Boboddy Jim was born to Erik and Elise on the island of Elbaf. Growing up, Jim was taught to fish by his father and to cook by his mother. Because Erik reeled in large hauls of oversized fish, Elise had to consistently cook day in and day out, which to the family’s surprise she quite enjoyed, finding it a challenge she was happy to face, which earned respect from not only her neighbors but her husband and son as well.
Jim grew to love eating due to his family constantly placing cooked meals on the table, which inturn increased his curiosity of different foods, their tastes, smells, and textures. Throughout the years, Jim would spend his free time trying new foods to consume, gaining an appreciation to cooking and the different kinds and styles of food.
In his adolescence, Jim had been bullied by the other kids due to his weight, though he tried to ignore the taunts, things had escalated when the neighborhood children became bold in their early teen age and began attempting to physically pick on him. Jim, growing a bad temper during the course of the torment, decided to stand up to his bullies, which caused fights. The oddity about these fights were that the bullies weren’t able to harm Jim due to his body having so much fat, and Jim wasn’t as physically strong as the bullies, so he wasn’t able to harm them in return, the fights would end up being contests of stamina to see who would tire out first.
After the years these altercations with his bullies, they ended their feud and became friends, save for a handful who chose to be spiteful. Knowing he couldn’t physically beat them, Jim attacked them head on by stealing their food, whether it be meals, snacks, or grocery ingredients they were sent to the story to purchase. In the end, by the time Jim hit his twenties, he was respected as member of the same gang that use to pick on him.
In his thirties, Jim gained an interest in cooking his own meals, though one would call them feasts-for-a-lone-giant. As the years went on, and his hunger grew, so did his interests and curiosity for foreign foods. He ended up leaving home in his forties, desiring to be a Worldwide Tastetester, to eat foods from every culture in all parts of the world. While trying to make a living as a chef as he traveled the seas, Jim found ridicule for his weight and prejudice for being a giant, which also affected his sales which then affected his livelihood.
One day, at his lowest moment in his life, he felt his stomach hurt to the point it made a sound, it growled like a seaking. He was hungry, a feeling he never felt, which brought him tears and pain, both physically and emotionally. The memories of the prejudice and ridicule brought back old memories to when he was a child being bullied, which swelled inside of him like a boiling soup which then fueled his anger. The following three days, Jim ended up destroying the town of Paprika that gave him the most hardship as well as devouring all the food in sight, leaving the place and garnering the name “Famine”.
After gaining enough distance to lose sight of any authority, Jim decided to quit his career as a chef and earn money by other means, and if he couldn’t pay for food, he would just steal it, an easier and simpler life.
In his fifties, Jim made his way to Water 7 and started working on carpentry as a hobby as well as a job to make easy money. He would take advantage of his height and walk out to sea to retrieve any wrecked ships that were too damaged to make it to sure as well as move about ships without the need of cranes which gave him a bonus.
After ten years, Jim’s carpentry skills improved enough for him to feel comfortable enough to leave Water 7 without fear of being recognized by the marines. He boarded a large galleon that planned on heading to the North Blue. With the paddle wheels that the ship was equipped with, they managed to sail through the calm belt and into the North blue. Gaining so much distance from Paprika Town, Jim was sure he was too far away to gain any notice. Now his sights to taste every meal in the world can start again.
