Personality: Zhenya is infatuated with money and material wealth. It is the greatest source of his pleasure, and the driving source behind his actions. Spending money on fine food, lavish clothes, beautiful women, or even on superfluous whims is an inimitable rush for him. To fuel this need, he pushes himself to collect as much beli as humanly possible. Anybody in the way of that pursuit is a mortal enemy. Zhenya has no qualms about killing, stealing, cheating or lying for the sake of money. The world, to him, revolves around what can be bought and sold. Chasing anything else is a fruitless endeavor.
Despite this, he hates pirates, which seem to live outside the bounds of the natural order of money. He equally hates governments, that seem to get money for just sitting around and doing nothing, thus, not knowing the immense pleasure of earning and spending it. He's very open about this behavior, and is surprised more people don't follow his way of thinking, considering that without money, one can't survive in the world. Deep down, he knows that this love of money is a kind of prison for him. He wants to be free of needing money, but fails to accept this about himself.
Zhenya enjoys the peace that navigating sea ships brings him. Driving a boat through the boundless sea is a great joy for him. He also likes being able to do it better than other people, whether that means chasing others down, or creating undiscovered trade routes between islands. It is a secondary happiness when compared to buying things for his enjoyment.
In battle, Zhenya is most concerned with protecting himself. He's very aware of his weaknesses and shortcomings, making him a cautious fighter that avoids unnecessary risks of any kind. He doesn't fight with pride, only for survival and profit. Cheating, playing dead, falsely surrendering, and hidden tricks and traps are all natural ways of fighting that he employs. As a result, he doesn't play well with others in fights, happy to throw them to the wolves to save his own skin. This cowardly way of fighting does serve a benefit, in preventing injury to himself.
- History:
Zhenya was born the son of a marine that fell in battle while he was a very young child. Instead of being orphaned, Zhenya was adopted by a Marine Commodore, Darius Hilly. According to Commodore Hilly, Zhenya's late mother died protecting him. Darius appointed private tutors to school the young Zhenya, who was to be raised on a small marine outpost on Centaurea. Zhenya was easily bored by the small town of Ygnus, until a bigwig trader came to the port town, considering Ygnus to be used as a checkpoint for a trade route that would bring the island an immense amount of wealth. Ultimately, Ygnus would be rejected, but Zhenya would never forget how even his adopted father Darius bowed his head to the rich trader.
Zhenya was instantly attracted to the attention and respect that beli seemed to earn somebody, and worked hard at his studies to become a trader that could rival such a bigwig. While Darius thought that Zhenya was studying to become a marine navigator, the boy was really studying to develop new, daring trade routes that would give his venture an advantage over others. At the age of 16, Zhenya took out his first trading ship, a retired marine boat that carried the meager goods of Centaurea.
Zhen Coin Unlimited would persist as a minor operation. Zhenya would sail the goods himself, fighting off dangerous creatures and raggedy raiders with his own persistence. Though his adopted father was disappointed, he was still happy that the young man was making a business for himself. In fact, a small element of wealth was being reintroduced to the impoverished island of Centaurea through Zhenya's business.
Such a thing didn't go unnoticed by the Briss Kingdom, which feared an economic uprising from the island. Duke Rin of Birss hired a crew of pirates, the Cerulean Riders, to break up Zhenya's operation. The company that Zhenya had developed for five years across three ships was destroyed in a matter of days, bringing the company to ruin, and poverty to Zhenya. Zhenya even found himself injured from trying to defend the company's flagship, waking up months later with a scar across his face. His father tried to convince the boy to put his skills to use as a marine, and bring justice to the pirates that ruined him, but Zhenya refused adamantly. He wanted vengeance, not justice.
