Sho
Basic Character Information
Starting Bonus: Hardboiled
First Name: Sho
Middle Name/Initial: N/A
Last Name: N/A
Epithet: Fallen Angel Sho
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Race: Sky Islander
Faction: Pirate
Profession: Entertainer / Inventor
Physical Appearance
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 150 lbs.
Hair Style: Shoulder Length and Wavy
Hair Color: Straw Blonde that turns Platinum Blonde under the right lighting.
Eye Color: Golden Yellow
Scars: N/A
Clothing and Accessories: Given Sho's aspirations, at least publically, it isn't false to assume that he treats fashion as not just a way to express himself, but as a weapon to achieve his goals. For a wannabe idol clothes will have the fans talking just as much as the musical act. So, he does his best to stay fashion conscious in all his wardrobe decisions. If putting on a show the Skypean will dress in something ostentatious, wearing an outfit never seen before and never to repeat again. A spandex suit made from mermaid scales, an authentic replica Marine admiral uniform turned runway chic, or an outfit comprised of sown on Baby Den Den Mushi to help project his voice. When it comes to a show an outfit must never be done twice and the more famous he becomes the more incredible his clothing will be each new show.
Outside of a concert Sho dresses much more comfortably and is far less eye catching. A black shirt serves as his top, the V of the shirt cut low to show off pale white skin. Black pants flow from his waistline and tuck themselves into large white boots that come up to nearly knee height. The pants are secured by a large copper colored sash which wraps around his body. Over all of this is a large white coat. The coat drapes down, falling just short of the ground. It's main purpose is to hide his wings, a useful disguise for his heritage only removed when he isn't trying to be subtle anymore. For accessories Sho prefers to wear black bracers, a feather pin made from his own wings, and a collar around his neck. The pin is so that he doesn't forget his heritage, even as he may work to hide it from others. While the collar is to remind himself that if he does not succeed the fate of a slave might be in store for him.
Description: Sho is of average height, appearing to be closer on the lithe side of physically built. To an outsider, he appears to be a pushover. Someone who couldn't physically threaten a fly, let alone a person. His face is fare, bordering on feminine almost devoid of any harsh features. This isn't helped by his shoulder length blonde hair. Even his skin is soft to the touch, the only places where calluses form being the balls of his feet and his fingertips. On more than occasion his graceful build and girly features has had him mistaken as a woman. The fact that he carries himself at all times with a level of poise and grace only further muddies the waters as people try to determine his gender.
Under the slim build though is the body of a performer or gymnast. It is all corded muscle designed for lightning fast reflexes or whip cord reaction. The fact that his cover is that of an idol or entertainer helps establish why he is built this way. To an outsider he has trained to be like this for his profession. It isn't easy to jump to any other conclusions when every way he carries himself is to sell the lie. Outside of the public eye his expression is typically dour and serious. He either appears constantly indifferent to his surroundings or perpetually disappointed by them. When mingling with the masses though he is all smiles and false cheer. He exudes an insincere charisma. The final thing about him, hidden most of the time on his back, are a pair of small wings. The wings are white and are the proof that he is a Skypiean.
The Past
Main Traits: Merciless, Cunning, Proud, Meticulous, Two-Faced, Curious, Paranoid, Ambitious, and Pessimistic.
Likes: Music, Tinkering, Dancing, Sky Islands, Smoking, Beautiful Destruction, Hot Cocoa, Espionage, and Birds.
Dislikes: His Fans, Abuse of Technology, The World Government, People Who Talk Too Much, Corruption, Slavery, Bugs, Traitors, Aurelian Sterling, and "Sheeple".
Unique laugh: When playing false a light a giggle: "Tehehehe"
When laughing as his true self it is a conniving snicker which shifts to boisterous mad chorus: "Yehehehe....YAHAHAHAHAHA!"
Hometown: Paradise, Sky Islands
Personality: The public, and those who do not truly know Sho, know him as an Angel. He is just generally a wholesome and good individual. Never without a smile, always quick to compliment others, the first to help a little old lady cross the street. Sho is the perfect role model. He is the ideal idol. He is hardworking and passionate about music and his fans. Always determined to put on the best show possible. He doesn't mire himself in politics or religion, rather attempting to stay pure to the music. Never one for crude language or dirty jokes. Mothers want him to be their son and daughters wish to take him home and take care of him for the rest of his life. Even guys have a hard time hating him since his complete lack of interest in women makes him a complete non-threat to them. He is a total innocent, naive to the world. The worst thing someone could say would be that he is a pushover and one might fear that he would be easily taken advantage of. Of course, that's only what he wants people to see about him.
The truth is that Sho is really a devil in white winged disguise. Everything he does is to enact his politic agenda. He yearns for the destruction of the World Government and the surety that the Sky Islands will remain free of the influence of those who monopolize the Vearth. He will commit every crime to accomplish this and could care less about others. The fact that he puts on a facade isn't some game to him or any actual desire to have people like him. It is a necessary tool. He recognizes that the best way to accomplish his goal is to use people. To gather the masses and turn them on their precious World Government. Given the rarity of his kind below the clouds he is always watchful that he might be sold out to some Celestial Dragon looking for a Skypiean pet. This paranoia often causes him to doubt even the most loyal of ally. Although he enjoys manipulating the fools who see only his false persona the reality is that their presence is only tolerated so long as they are of use to him. The second that ceases to be the case is the second they are hung out to dry.
Besides his reason for living he only holds two true passions, music and machinery. The first he would keep to himself if he had a choice, but to accomplish his goals he shares with the world. The second he would share with the world, but for a need of secrecy he keeps largely to himself. Sho loves music, but it is a private pleasure. One he would only share with trusted individuals during quiet affairs. However, the practical need to use the masses have pushed him to sharing it with the world as the false idol persona he flaunts before others. Meanwhile he has always enjoyed tinkering with the Dials of his homeland. However, their unique nature means that showing these off could reveal too much and because of it he has been relegated to only using it when in combat or planning to deal with all witnesses any way. Ultimately, Sho is an enigma and a contradiction. It is difficult to tell where the mask and true face start or end. Perhaps one will never truly know Sho, perhaps he doesn't even truly know himself.
- History:
Sho was born on the Sky Islands, in particular Skypiea. As a native Skypiean he was raised among the clouds. In his early childhood he lived a happy and fairly innocent life. He was raised by two loving parents, both of whom were steadfast citizens who follows the law of the Sky Lords. His father worked the White-White Sea gathering the shells that his mother tinkered with to create the various Dials used by the citizenry of Skypiea. In fact it was his parents that ignited his passion for both music and tinkering. Through his parents work with Dials Sho got to work with these wondrous devices firsthand and learn how they operated and all the various ways they could be manipulated. He quickly showed an aptitude for working with them and he grew good enough that his parents could trust him to complete repairs and even minor construction with the more harmless Dials. His love of music came about with the first Dial he ever made, the Tone Dial. Sho didn't care for going to the local square or tavern to listen to the musicians. He just felt exposed amongst all his fellow neighbors and couldn't help, but feel music should be enjoyed by oneself. With the Tone Dial he could record the musicians he heard and listen to them in the privacy of his own room. In that privacy he could sing along to the music and because he never watched any of the musicians play he would create his own dance routines to entertain himself while he listened.
When he grew into his teens he couldn't help, but want to strike out on his own a little bit. Although he felt proud to help his parents out he wanted to do something different from their legacy. So Sho signed up for the White Berets. Under their tutelage he trained his body, learned the military advantages to Dials, and was drilled into being the meticulous person he is today. Of course, they weren't only a good influence on him. When around soldiers you pick up certain bad habits. From the older men he picked up smoking and was taught that to protect oneself or loved ones one could not shirk away from harsh actions. In his time in the White Berets he learned that sometimes violence was the only answer. Despite that though he was never pushed to doing much beyond peacekeeping. Life was good and had it stayed that way it would have likely groomed him into a fine young man.
However, not all could stay as it was. One day an intruder arrived on Skypiea. A marine had somehow washed up on their shores through use of the Knock Up Stream. His own vessel had been chasing a pirate when the stream had caught both unawares. In the end since neither party had been ready for it both vessels were lost and it was only by sheer luck that the marine had survived long enough to be found by a local Skypiean. At first there was much suspicion over the newcomer, but in time people grew to accept him as he made it clear he had no desire to go back to the world below their clouds. Sho, always curious about Vearth, spent many hours questioning the marine about the sea he had come from. The marine in turn was all too happy to share about his old life. From the man Sho learned about the various seas, pirates, marines, but most importantly the World Government. Through these discussions Sho came to only one conclusion, the World Government would one day be a threat to Skypiea. Learning about Celestial Dragons and the government that supported them he knew that if those below gained access to Skypiea they would put their limited resources and technology of Dials to sole use for the government. They would one day be a threat.
Unfortunately for Sho no one seemed to feel the same. No matter who he spoke to about the World Government no one shared his sentiments. Perhaps it was because the marine had proven himself to be such a friend to them or perhaps they just didn't think it was likely the World Government would ever find a less dangerous way of reaching them. Some even cited the infamous, even in Skypiea, Shichibukai Sterling Aurelian. Surely, as long as their people had such a strong representative serving the World Government they would be safe? In any case Sho was ignored at every turn. It got to the point where he too had almost recognized that all his worry was for naught.
Until one night he uncovered the marine building something out of Dials that would let him cushion the fall from the sky just enough to reach the seas below safely. The marine had tried to explain that he had family down below. That although he said he had committed himself to living with the Skypieans he just couldn't leave his family behind. Sho though couldn't trust the marine. Unlike his neighbors he had never truly believed the man and most importantly he was a dog for the World Government. However, rather then confront him immediately he played along. Pretending like he understood and wanted to help the marine, Sho even went so far as to assist in constructing the device the marine wished to use. This went on for a few days until Sho had all the evidence he needed. He had planted some altered Tone Dials to record the marine while Sho wasn't around, when the marine would believe himself alone. Then when he would assist the marine he would collect the Tone Dials and listen to them, leaving others in their place to repeat the process. In doing so he learned the marine wasn't actually a marine, but something known as a Cipher Pol Agent. Somehow the marine had held on to a Den Den Mushi which he was using to report back to superiors in the World Government. Through these recordings Sho confirmed that the marine had lost his crew on the trip, but there had been no pirates. His mission was always to spy on Skypiea and report on the military capabilities of the Sky Islands so that if one day Shichibukai Sterling was no more they could deal with the Sky Islands appropriately. Vindication!
Armed with his truth Sho opted not to go and provide this evidence to the Sky Lords or his superiors in the White Berets. He had come to the decision that they would never truly believe him. Or worst they would preemptively subservient themselves to the World Government rather then risk conflict. No, he would deal with this himself and then deal with the World Government. The only way to ensure the safety of Skypiea would be to destroy the World Government. To eliminate the corruption that would enslave his people and take their resources. Dealing with the Agent had been easy enough. Although perhaps more trained then the marine cover story the reality was that he had never recovered after being confined to the wheelchair. After building trust with the man by helping him with the craft it was all too easy to sneak up and finish the job the Knock Up Stream had started. Still, the loss of an Agent would be noticed unless the trail was altered somewhat. Having had days to prepare and a number of Tone Dials with recordings of the Agent's voice Sho had managed to splice together one last report from the Agent. A confirmation to his superiors that he would be descending that night and that from then on he would be radio silent for some time. Hopefully, by the time they realized something was amiss they would assume he either died on reentry or was lost at sea somewhere.
Before the body of the marine could even grow cold he took the small vessel the man had made and left Skypiea. Sho had only lingered long enough to go back to his home gather some tools for Dials, some food, and leave behind his white beret. It was not a safe journey. The vessel had been hastily made and the marine had not been a shipwright or an engineer. So it wasn't surprising that it started to fall apart in midair. It was only through Sho's hasty tinkering that the thing managed to stay together long enough to land. With Sho's engineering he got a number of Jet Dials to simultaneously activate seconds before crashing, creating enough counter force to lessen the speed of impact.
Of course, simply landing wasn't the last of his troubles. Sho was now alone in the middle of the Blues. Luck or divine intervention had him picked up by a passing merchant vessel. With no money and not wanting to provide any information on himself, for fear of being sold to slavers or arrested by government agents, he was forced to debase himself by using whatever means he could to barter his passage. In this case it was entertainment. With the help of a Tone Dial he danced and sang to entertain the sailors and help them deal with the boredom of long voyage. As it turned out amongst the passengers also on the vessel had been an up and coming talent manager. Seeing something in Sho that manager approached him and offered him a job. To travel the Blue Seas and put on shows and with the manager's help become famous and rich. Sho didn't care about fame or riches and he certainly didn't want to continue debasing himself for others. However, the thought of having a convenient reason and cover while travelling the world for his mission did intrigue him greatly. He learned even more from his talent manager as they made their way to the South Blue and his first gig. He learned about some of the peoples of Vearth, what idols were, what people wanted of them, and the power they could have over the masses.
Although he is only starting both in his "career" and ambitions he is determined to do whatever it takes to succeed, even it means playing a character. The World Government will crumble long before they ever threaten the Milky clouds of the Sky Islands and an example will be made of the Shichibukai, Sterling, so Skypieans know the harsh fate waiting traitors of Skypiea. To accomplish these tasks Sho is will do whatever it takes.

Let me start by saying that this was very well written bio, and was it not for a few lore conflicts, it would have my instant seal of approval. There are two conflicts here that stood out to me. One is that the Sky Islands, including Skypeia, are ruled by an alliance of Sky Lords. There is no title of God anymore. Next is that World Government is very well aware of the existence of the Sky Islands. In fact, its existence is relatively well known across the Grand Line. This is mainly thanks to Aurelian Sterling, a Shichibukai who is from the Sky Islands. That being said, the Sky Islands are left alone by the World Government partly because it is difficult to get there, and partly because they don't want to antagonize their strongest Shichibukai.
One more small thing I had to note (this is not something that needs to be corrected or anything, it's really more just a comment). Sho's personality comes off as extremely psychopathic after he murdered the marine. If this was intentional and you purposefully didn't want the reader to sympathize with him, then please ignore this paragraph. If not, then you should consider adding a more direct tragedy in Sho's life that drove him to his hate. As things are now, his cause is shakier than Hordy Jones'.

Thank you for the review, I have made some revisions around your notes. In particular I tried to align things with the lore. Still going for Psychopath so that won't likely come off any different, but hopefully I fledged out the death of the marine a little bit more so it feels less like some mental breakdown and more like a methodical sociopath.

I like how you made the tone dials significant for Sho in more ways than one. Using them to spy on the spy was an excellent idea.
