First Name: Kouen
Middle Name/Initial: None
Last Name: Miyamoto
Epithet: Blue Brat
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Faction: Marines
Profession: Martial Artist, Hand-to-Hand specialist
Physical Appearance
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 73 kg
Hair Style: Wavy Hair swept upwards
Hair Color: Light Blue
Eye Color: Blue
Scars: One across his nose, which he always covers with bandaids.
Clothing and Accessories: He doesn't wear the marine uniform and if he ever does, it would be because someone forced him to do so. He usually wears a dark blue martial arts gi, secured by a black belt over his hips. This is accompanied by black gloves over his hands and he tends to usually go shoeless in most cases, but when he needs to, he wears something practical like black boots. He wears a blue aviator with large mufflers and an opening that lets his blue hair go upwards freely. He also wears goggles which is usually on top of the aviator, and the back of his gi carries a sheathe where he can put his polearm into.
Description: Kouen is a man of decent height and toned build, many dismiss him easily in appearance due to his goofy/smiley grin, not taking him seriously as a marine. He bears a scar across his nose and usually likes to cover it up with bandaids, noting that he "looks scary" with the scar fully exposed.
The Past
Main Traits: Impulsive, Dense, Just
Likes: Delivering Justice, Freedom, Fighting
Dislikes: Arrogance, Lack of Justice, Pirates
Unique laugh: Hahaha! (Y'know, a normal laugh. What did you expect?)
Hometown: South Blue, Karate Island.
Personality: Kouen is usually easygoing when not operating as a marine, seeing life in an odd way and tends to be altruistic as a person towards others. He hates the weak being preyed upon by the strong, mainly as a result of his own injustice inflicted upon him. He wished somebody could've prevented it from happening, and he realises he has to be that somebody so others don't have to go through terrible experiences. This is what he tries to aim for as a marine and idealises as the type of marine he tries to be, but the actualisation behind trying to be such a marine hasn't quite hit him yet in terms of reality.
Kouen has a strong will in doing what he believes is the right thing to do, usually not liking to hide behind such facades and most marines attribute this as the reason why he has troubles with the higher ups, some of which have described him as "a pirate trying to be a marine." When he couldn't do anything to exact revenge for his parents after a clear injustice was done to him, he promised to never be that weak again and if a chance opens itself up to eliminate the bad guys and save the day, he won't hold back. He truly believes that he can make a change in the world by consistently following this mindset.
When he's not fighting pirates seriously, he loves to fight other people for fun and to this end, even drops his logia intangibility just to make it a fair match. Although many have stated he's only a high rank because of his Devil Fruit alone, he's quick to dismiss such comments, considering them irrelevant and pointless.
Because of the inherent anger that he still holds back when his parents were murdered, he sticks to a very plain white and black view of the world. Marines are good, pirates are bad, and that's how he sees it. If there were clear signs of marine corruption or abuse, he'd turn an eye to it or if he's forced to acknowledge it, would make excuses on their behalf. "They were forced to do that." "Maybe they shouldn't of been bad people in the first place."
Although he can read a situation well, he is quite terrible at reacting to a situation sometimes and many attribute this to him being socially inept, he's confident and quite capable of being social, he just doesn't pick up social mannerisms or reacting appropriately to a situation, even coming across as facetious to some people.
- History:
- The Beginning:
- Kouen was the secondborn son to a martial artist family, who were resident on Karate Island in the South Blue. Their particular style of fighting revolved around honings one body and dedicating themselves to a style of weapon. This traditionally was founded on a mastery of Swordsmanship, but has since expanded to other usages of weapons and has been dubbed as the "Way of the Kensai"
Many questioned this fighting style as it utilised weapons, but it has been described as "one who trains relentlessly with their weapon to the point it becomes an extension." and as such, it promotes both usage of hand-to-hand combat and a Kensai's preferred weapon. Although it's a bit more liberal in it's way of fighting, not many have argued with it's results as it has only spawned strong, hardened warriors from those who comes to the dojo, being considered one of the more successful dojos on the entire island.
With such a mighty dojo comes high expectations, which was reflective of Kouen's parents and most of their expectations were directed at his older brother, Kon. It was because of this that Kouen tended to mess around more, he trained in the dojo but he didn't take it seriously compared to those who sought it out. He found fighting as more fun than serious, and he was scolded many times for his carefree and easygoing behaviour, which never seemed to quell down his attitude to life in general.
The other dojo's had been envious of Kouen's dojo, even the old-school ones and as such, resorted to an assassination that saw both of his parents killed and the dojo being inherited by Kon. When both brothers came to the conclusion of what happened to their parents, both had a falling out. Kouen was more emotional on the matter, stating that they should deliver vengeance to those who committed the murder. Kon stated to not start a war with another dojo and instead, continue to run the dojo and not disgrace everything they've worked hard for. Kon and Kouen tried to run the dojo together in their parents memory but held different views of how it should be run and eventually, Kouen left of his own accord. The justice he seeked on Karate Island was nowhere to be found, and he couldn't find peace while those who did him wrong were only a few blocks away.
- The Recruitment:
- Leaving the island bitterly, he lashed at the world by becoming a bounty hunter, enforcing his own sense of justice by not only beating rotten pirates, but by turning them in to the government and getting a good paycheck out of it. It was the perfect life and many were surprised to hear of him as his reputation grew, a boy who's still in his teenage years able to take down adults so easily.
He had found his belonging in life, until he came across an opponent where he bit off more than he could chew and decided to fight against a high-bounty pirate in the Blues, which had an abnormal number even by Blue standards. He could barely even beat their subordinates and it didn't take long for him to be captured. His death would've been guaranteed, if it wasn't for the save by a high-ranking marine official who entered the scene and what he saw was a miracle to his eyes, a man of high power who pressed justice on the bad guys, the same way he had always viewed himself in the recent years as a bounty hunter.
After being cut free, the marine had expressed interest in Kouen as he heard of his reputation, that he has potential for his age and believes it'd be wasted if he stayed as a bounty hunter feeding off small-time bounties in the Blues. It was a pretty good pitch and as naive Kouen is, immediately said yes when he asked Kouen to join the marines.
- The Soldier:
- Kouen had expected some form of excitement to being a marine, fantasising about beating pirates and having the power to stand up to stronger ones by being trained... instead, he was given typical marine duties. Patrolling, paperwork, all which he failed as he could never sit still. If a task were given to Kouen, it was bound to be messed up. This resulted in him being switched from branch to branch, as either captains couldn't deal with his disruptive behaviour or hoped that he energise it towards a division that would fit him... unfortunately, it just never happened.
When his termination seemed to draw nearer, a certain incident happened. After a naval battle against pirates occurred, they confiscated a devil fruit. It was said that they're to be given to high ranks and determined if they should be eaten by one of the members present or to be passed off to the government. It was their bad luck when Kouen was tasked with passing along the devil fruit to the captain, as along the way, he thought eating the tiniest bit of the devil fruit out of childlike curiosity wouldn't hurt, and he certainly wouldn't get any powers from it for only eating the smallest piece, right?
The captain was quick to notice the tiniest bit of the devil fruit eaten and out of wrath, tried to punch Kouen right in the face. It was to everyone's surprise that his entire head blew away, and his neck had fog-like properties exerting out. Kouen's first instinct was him trying to grab ahold of his head, which was hard to do considering there was no head. He then ran around like a maniac from sheer panic and to everyone's late reaction, he went overboard.
After being saved by one of the marines who swam in after him, the captain was quick to deduce the devil fruit that he ate; a logia-type devil fruit known as the Fog-Fog Fruit. He expressed passive aggressiveness at Kouen for eating such a rare class of devil fruit, but he also realised that Kouen's termination is illogical at this point, as one of their biggest nuisances just became one of their biggest fighting assets and with the right training, he could be a deadly force for the marines.
- The Training:
- Deciding Kouen has a potential that shouldn't be wasted, he was sent to New Marineford to be trained for almost a year, teaching him the fundamentals of what it means to survive in the Grand Line; Haki, to not rely on his new Devil Fruit power so much amongst other things. When they deemed him strong enough to be capable of fighting on his own, he gave him the title of Captain and was free to operate in the seas as he pleased. He had an option of leading his own ship of marines, but he didn't take it, stating that he likes to work alone.
In the last couple of months, he had been hunting after uprising pirates that try to come from the Blues, as a way to effectively stomp them out before they become an issue later on in the Grand Line. Lately however, his travels has led him to be further away and to be in the later parts of the Grand Line. Although he is allowed to work independently, he is expected to work with other marines when the need arises.

Ohhh, I like how you tied in Kon in his background. I'm curious to see where Kouen turns up with his solo personality. Approved!
