Abel portraits himself as a very kind, generous and polite young man. He's a very self-sacrificing person who refuses to take gifts from others. But he has other another face to that very kind personality which can be referred to as a small-time criminal. Because of the suffering, he has gone through in past. His other personality is that of a thug type person who tries to dominate others with his powers. He refuses to let anyone steal from him but he steals from others in order to put himself in an advantage over any kind of situation.

In Combat:
Abel's in combat personality is a complete turn over of his out of combat personality, as he uses his devil fruit power much more, which makes him go berserk, and he starts showing psychopathic nature where he doesn't kill his enemy but instead torments them mentally and physically to the extent where they even starts forgetting themselves.
