GRIMDARK BATTLEBORN
Basic Character Information
Starting Bonus: Pocket Change | [Starting Bonus Roll]
First Name: Grimdark
Middle Name/Initial: -
Last Name: Battleborn
Epithet: Leviathan
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Race: Human/Cyborg
Faction: Pirate
Profession: Weapon Master/Mechanist
Physical Appearance
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 405 lbs
Hair Style: Short and straight
Hair Color: Blue
Eye Color: Blue
Scars: Scattered, deep scars all across her body. The worst scars are located where her mechanical limbs meet her flesh.
Clothing and Accessories: To anyone Grim would appear to be more of a knight than a pirate, though she is not classified as such. She’s lightly armored, sporting the hefty black protection around her chest and midriff, as well as her hands and parts of her arms and elbows. One might think it odd, for a person who likes combat as much as Grim to have so little protecting. But the light armor allows for quicker reaction and speed time. The rest of her outfit is rather simple. She wears blackened shorts, patterned tights, and dark boots that go up to the middle of her shins. All of this is topped off with a gray jacket wrapped around her shoulders loosely.
Description: Grim is part girl part machine. Due to an unfortunate event in her younger years it has left her without the use of 3 out of 4 of her limbs. These being her left leg, right leg, and left arm. Instead of normal flesh these limbs are now completely mechanical. They’re dull gray, almost a black looking metal which mixes in with the rest of her dark clothing.
Apart from that however, Grim’s appearance is pretty normal. She has dark blue hair cut to just below her shoulders, matching her eyes which are just a few shades lighter. Her skin is paler than most pirates, but more worn than others her age due to a rough life style. It is littered with scars, some big and some smaller. Nothing too big or gruesome until you get to the parts with her mechanical limbs meet her flesh, where there is a lot of extremely deeply scarred tissue that still doesn’t look quite healed.
For a lady her frame is rather large and muscular, mostly due to her taller height and worked muscles.
The Past
Main Traits: Intimidating, naive, quiet, insecure, intrigued
Likes:
Sweets: Grim enjoys sweets. Candy, chocolate, gum, and any such thing that falls under those categories. The more sugar the better.
Combat: The thrill of combat is when Grim feels the most alive, when swords clash and bodies fall. Even after attempting to become peaceful it never feels quite right when she's not fighting or training.
Roses: Roses are Grim’s favorite flowers. They’re red, which is also her favorite color. It reminds her of blood, something else Grim likes.
Collecting: Like all girls Grim loves collecting things. Flowers, pennies, the skulls of her victims, teeth, fingernails… It’s nice to keep mementos.
Animals: Who doesn’t like animals? Puppies are her favorite. They’re just that adorable.
Weapons: Her only real friends, things that will keep her safe from harm. When you're not being protected you have to make your own protection. It's also nice to name them and give them personalities, just for fun.
Dislikes:
Pirates: Growing up on Battleborn's ship brought out the worst in a lot of fellow pirates. Although she tries to look past it, she can't help but remember how far down a person's morality is willing to dive if pushed enough.
Redheads: They say their hair is red, yet it appears to be more of an orange. This makes Grim confused, and when she’s confused she gets angry.
Reading: Seeing as how she barely got any school in her childhood at all it makes her feel embarrassed that she doesn’t know how to read or write. People make fun of her for it.
Cabbages: They taste like nothing. What is even the point!?
Cowardice: If you’re a coward you don’t live long. There's no use in just sitting down and giving in. People who have no spine irritate Grim to no end.
Bulls: The one animal she hates. The flag of her father's ship held the symbol of the bull. Just seeing them reminds her of him.
Unique laugh: "... Kukuku..."
Hometown: The Grand Line (near Risky Red Island)
Personality: Grim is a strange case. Once a cold blooded killer, she is now simply a young woman trying to come to terms with the horrid things she did in her youth. She holds a bottomless pit of regret in her heart, heavy with the burdens that came with her childhood. Where as merely a few years ago she would cut down a foe without a second though she now spends her days learning to be a good soul. With the help of her adoptive caregiver she wishes now to repent for her sins. That being said, this is not without its flaws. It is very hard for her to break free of the ways of her family. Years upon years of torment and killing change a young child, encasing her into a mold that is not easy to be rid of. It has taken her years to even get to the point where she is now.
Because of this Grim is a rather quiet person. She finds it easier to be alone than with others, as other people get uncomfortable around her frightening and dark aura. She tries her best to be nice and caring, but other women do such things without any effort at all. Grim is rather jealous of their feminine nature, and tries to copy them whenever she gets the chance. Though more often than not this ends in her being frustrated, and therefore angry. Grim has a horrid anger, most likely due to her past. there are times where it is very hard to control her emotions, at which point it's almost impossible to calm her down.
Grim is a calmly raging storm, who at first glance may come off as intimidating, but only wants to be accepted.
Grim enjoys battles more than anything. Not in the way that she gets anything out of them, but rather they’re ‘the norm’ for her. It feels strange to be doing anything but that. Because of this she is terrifying in battle, which has earned her her epithet, for she is nothing but a monster when it comes to shedding blood. She is relentless, afterwards collecting things from the bodies of her victims as trophies. Yes, Grim is a strange and terrifying creature. But, a creature made from the surrounding she grew up in.
- History:
Grim doesn’t exactly have a ‘hometown’ per say. She was born at sea on the Grand Line, more specifically just outside of Risky Red Island on her father’s ship.
Her childhood was anything but good. Her father was the infamously horrid pirate Battleborn, whose real name was so obscured even he himself no longer knew it. Her mother was a simple slave on his ship, and sadly was a woman she would never come to know.
Battleborn was a terrible man and an even worse father. He did not care for Grim, nor any of her various brothers and sisters that came after her. He was abusive, both physically and verbally. Bottles were thrown, punches were dealt, and sometimes even death to those who dared to defile him. Grim kept away from him, which is probably one of the only reasons she survived. Though of course, without the care of her father or mother Grim was left to her own devices on the ship. She managed to befriend some of his crew, but even they were a bit rough around the edges and unfriendly. This kind of environment molded Grim. A life of abandonment, where killing and unspeakable acts were a daily event.
With really nowhere else to go she stayed with her father’s crew, even at a young age participating in various raids and killing sprees. Quickly, she was desensitized to such things, and they became par for the course.
It was like this for most of Grim’s life. Siblings and crew came and went, either by death or escaping under the captain’s nose. Grim’s true friends became her own weapons, for they were her only protection in this way of life. Multiple times fights would break out on the ship, and a lot of them were directed at Grim and her siblings due to them being held in higher regard than the rest of the crew. This was how she quickly learned to fight, other than through the pillages. Fighting was how you earned your life. A lot of these fights were how the girl earned her many scars. But her worst scars, her severed limbs, were from her worst fight of all. At age sixteen her father challenged her, for some reason getting it inside his head that she was planning to kill him. Though she wasn’t planning any such thing the captain still lunged at her, not willing to listen to any explanation she tried to give. The fight was grueling, the rest of the crew gathering around to watch the spectacle with drinks and cheers. Grim lost her left arm about midway through, Battleborn managing to slice it clean off. Even with the grave injury Grim still fought with all her might, fearing the cold sting of death so soon. Yet, with such a serious injury, the young girl was no match for her deranged father. She was swiftly cut down, tossed over the side of the boat, and left to die.
Only... She did no such thing.
Grim is unsure of the events that transpired after the fight, but when next she awoke, she was bandaged up in an unfamiliar bed. As it turns out, when Battleborn threw her overboard they were not too far from the coast of Baterilla. The young girl had washed up on the shore of one of the villages and was taken in by an older mechanist there. Vega, his name was. He was a kind yet firm soul, one that had even gone so far as to offer Grim a new arm, as well as a pair of legs as she had lost them due to serious infection. Grim was depressed, however. She was unsure if she was deserving of such kindness after everything she had done, preferring if she had merely died in the water. Yet, even so the old man told her she should not be wasteful of a life, no matter what horrid things she has done. For once, Grim was shown kindness. For once in her life there was someone before her who did not think of her as a killer despite what she had done. With enough convincing, Grim finally agreed for him to help her, a sudden and strange desire to change striking deep within her. The implants were made, and after enough help, she was able to use her limbs again.
Grim stayed with Vega after that, deciding to become his apprentice in the arts of machinery. She also became the village's protector, proving herself worthy when she managed to chase of a group of bandits by herself. The village was rather mixed about Grim. Some saw her as a welcomed member, while others thought of her as nothing but a menace. One of the people who thought the latter was Vega's daughter, Lyra, who had lost her own mother to Battleborn's crew years earlier. Grim and her could never get along due to that, but Grim knew this and decided it was meant to be that way.
Over the years Grim grew more aware of right and wrong, although, she still struggles with it to this day. Growing up in such an environment like Battleborn's ship is sure to twist anyone's morality. Even so Vega was gentle with her girl, nudging her in the right directions.
Sadly, however, tragedy stuck the small village recently. During a raid a pirate band known as the Hammerheads recognized Grim and stole her away from the village, figuring the bounty placed on her head was large enough to clear their own.
Grim must figure out a way to escape their clutches... Or die trying.

This was a very interesting read and I hope Grim comes to surround herself with a crew that values her more than the one she was born to! Best of luck~ Approved!
