Oswald J. Kincaid
Basic Character Information
Starting Bonus: Tough Guy | [Starting Bonus Roll]
First Name: Oswald "Ozzy"
Middle Name/Initial: J
Last Name: Kincaid
Epithet:
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Race: Mink
Faction: Revolutionary
Profession: Brawler/Doctor
Physical Appearance
Height: 15'
Weight: 900lbs
Hair Style: Bushy/Sometimes ponytail
Hair Color: Grey-blonde
Eye Color: Green
Scars: X-shaped chest
Clothing and Accessories: As a mink, Ozzy's feet are built tough and resilient. As a result, he does not wear any form of shoes (not that he'd probably be able to find any that fit anyway). Going up the length of his body, Ozzy usually wears a pair of loose fitting pants, rolled up past the ankles and with a leather belt to keep everything where it's supposed to be. For an undershirt he will sometimes wear a white tank-top but often keeps his chest bare and exposed, enjoying the feel of the breeze on his fur. Over his shoulders he drapes an old Marine officer's jacket, died black and with the World Government symbol replaced by that of the New Revolutionary Army's insignia. Due to his monk training, he will often wrap his hands with white bandages, but rarely wears gloves except when in the most extreme climates. Lastly, to keep his hair/mane back and out of his face, Ozzy will often be seen wearing an old captain's hat or bandanna tied around his hair line. Some days he keeps his mane in a loose ponytail and other times he simply lets it fall freely to the top of his back.
Description: Ozzy is a large mink specimen, resembling the features of a lion his very presence speaks of raw strength. His body is built tough and muscular from years of forced manual labor. Scars from decades of abuse line his body, particularly his back and chest. The one noticeable scar is the massive x across his chest, given to him by a slave trader after an unsuccessful revolt attempt. His hair is usually kept back and falls just below the shoulders and is the color of grayed straw, showing hints of a time before the stresses of life took hold. Ozzy's eyes are a soft blue, reminiscent of a clear sky after a long storm has passed through.
The Past
Main Traits:
Positive Traits:
- Calm - For day to day activities Ozzy is a very calm, collected individual. He speaks slowly, enunciating the proper words to get his point across during a conversation. Thanks to his monk teachings and training, Ozzy has learned that a cool, calm demeanor will get you what you want whereas arrogance and anger will only get you killed.
- Calculating - Another trait attributed to Oswald's monk's teachings, he has learned to view a situation at large in its entirety before diving in head first. As a result he's become a very calculating, strategic individual, assessing the best course of action and generally being successful when he does. Unfortunately when his temper does get the better of him, all bets are off.
- Loyal - As someone who grew up as an outsider especially among the human world, Oswald is not quick to trust but when he does find someone/something who's earned that trust, he's loyal to the bitter end. This can include an entire crew or a singular individual.
- Animal Lover - While Ozzy hates most of the human world, there is one thing he loves- or rather one type of thing he loves, and that's the vast assortment of strange and diverse animals which inhabit the land. Due to his mink heritage he finds it far easier to bond with the fauna of the outside world rather than the human rulers of it.
- Advocate - Ozzy has always advocated for the underdog, for those too weak to protect themselves. As a result, he has a hard time turning away from those in need, particularly those oppressed by others. Even if that person be a human, those who enslave or oppress others are truly the scum of the earth in his eyes.
- Driven - Finally, Oswald is a driven mink, no matter what he sets his mind to he pursues it until it is fully completed. Anything less only frustrates and angers him, which usually results in either a week long binger or tantrum.
Negative Traits:
- Temper - Although Ozzy does his best to keep his temper in check, there are moments of pure anger and wrath that sometimes slip out. These are generally triggered by the beatings of others/innocents by Nobles or Marines as well as slave traders. When Oswald is angry, the entire sea shakes with anticipation.
- Ruthless - Along with his temper, Ozzy has developed a trait he's trying to shake but his ruthlessness towards his enemies has simply become second nature to him. While either oblivious or even at times kind to the general population if they've earned his trust and respect, Ozzy has no real thought of mercy for those who wrong him or his comrades. The only times he has shown mercy are when keeping someone alive is better for the plan overall.
- Cold - Oswald can be cold, especially to strangers and particularly towards humans. Its a result of a sort of emotional skin he's grown for himself after years of strange stares, name calling and even violence directed towards him as a result of being born as a mink. In return he rarely gives others the time of day until they've earned his trust, simply ignoring the general crowd and their stares.
- Vindictive - Similar to his ruthlessness, Oswald is a very vindictive person. Those who wrong him and gain his ire are forever remembered until the debt is paid back. It may take just days or it may take years, but Oswald never forgets a bit- face. He will hunt down those who have wronged him and his, and pay them back ten fold.
Likes: Animals, Drink, Quiet, Revolutionary Army
Dislikes: Humans, Slavers, Arrogance, World Government
Unique laugh: Sha-sha-sha-sha-shaaaa!
Hometown: Zou
Personality: Oswald is overall a cold mink as a result of the way the world has treated him for much of his life. He's learned to ignore the gazes and comments of others, even when those comments come with threats or full on acts of violence. It has created a shell around him that makes it hard for him to want to trust anyone, however when he finds that person or people to trust, he is loyal to them lifelong. All his life Ozzy has been an outsider and underdog, cultivating this idea of needing to be an advocate for those who cannot advocate for himself. That's not saying Ozzy is going to pep rallies to free slaves, but rather his tactic is more to bomb slave sales and hunt down not only the slavers but their families as well. There is nothing in this world Oswald hates more than slavers and bullies. He finds those who think only of themselves and are blinded by their arrogance to be pitiful and hopeless, their only chance to be delivered unto justice by any means necessary. Ozzy is a man driven by his goals and his ideals, with his mind set and never wavering until his objective is completed. He will hunt men to the ends of the earth if he believes it necessary or they have wronged him or his few loyal friends in some way. Once he finds that person, their life is forfeit in the most painful ways Ozzy can conceive. He's a structured man not afraid to get his hands dirty at a moment's notice.
- History:
- Zou:
- Growing up a mink cub, life was grand for Oswald. He had loving parents who pushed him hard to be the best at whatever he chose to do in life, friends and a community that supported one another. Life appeared rather idyllic for the first eight or so years. Due to the nature of Zou, it is uncommon, if not rare for outsiders to find the walking island. However, by chance a sinking ship happened across the island and, taking pity on the sailors, the mink tribe welcomed the humans into their village to rest and rebuild a ship which could take them home. Being a curious young cub, Ozzy took a particular interest in these hairless minks from the outside world. He'd often follow the eight men and women who were marooned in his home around town, watching them interact with other minks, buy goods and supplies to rebuild their ship. Eventually Ozzy even built up the courage to begin talking to and interacting with these humans. They seemed to enjoy him quite a bit and Ozzy quickly found himself spending most of his days with the humans over the course of their multi-month stay in Zou.
Unfortunately for Oswald, it seemed the humans had taken too much of a liking to the young cub, and deciding the best way to recoup their losses of their original journey would be to sell some of the minks to slavers, kidnapped Ozzy the day before they were supposed to leave. Before the rest of his tribe, or his parents noticed, the sailors had already departed from Zou, a new lion mink sealed away in a crate and ready to be sold. It was the last time Ozzy saw Zou again.
- Slave Trade:
- After being stolen from his home, Ozzy quickly found himself in foreign lands. He was carted from island to island, his cage occasionally opened so he could be fed, or rarely he was let out on chain so someone could clean the stink of his fecal matter that had accumulated. On these rare occasions Ozzy would be able to look out from the deck of the ship and see strange worlds with hundreds, if not thousands, of hairless minks milling about. These ports were loud and clamoring with so many people it was overwhelming for the young mink. This was to the point that he ended up preferring the quiet of his cage over anything else.
Eventually, Ozzy was sold to a slave trader and the sailors were able to recoup their debts from the failed voyage. This marked the beginning of the worst decades of the young mink's life. Initially sold to an owner in East Blue, Ozzy found himself treated as a play thing of sorts for the young children of the slaver. Being just a cub himself at this age, the children found him adorable and at first Ozzy didn't mind this life. However, the shock collar stuck around his neck that would deliver a dangerous level of electricity to the mink's growing body if he left the premise of the slaver's home was something he didn't care for at all. Unfortunately for Ozzy, he quickly outgrew the cuteness that comes from youth and, once he did the slaver's children lost interest in him. He was sold to another interested buyer who saw the potential raw strength of youth in the boy.
This next chapter took him to a farming island in West Blue, where Ozzy's impressive size and strength were put to the test day in and day out. He often worked sixteen hours a day, long before sunrise and long after sunset. He was fed just enough to keep him strong and working, but never more. When slaves didn't meet their work quota for the day, they were often beat and it was at this time Ozzy began to take pity on his fellow workers. He'd often work twice as hard so he could meet his quota and then move about the farm to help others fill their's. He did his best to make the best of a terrible situation for himself and the others and for a time, he was as happy as could be under the circumstances. The other slaves, all of various races but none human, looked to Ozzy as a sort of untitled leader and he took pride in helping them.
Seeing the growing love and trust in Ozzy by the other slaves made the slaver uncomfortable and fearful of a rebellion, so a deal was made and Oswald was shipped off to the worst of them. A slaver who specialized in entertainment, particularly slave fights.
- Doc:
- This slaver was by far the most ruthless of any of the others Ozzy had had the misfortune of meeting and went by the name of Aldo Sinclair. He beat slaves senselessly for the smallest of transgressions, or rather had his goons do the beating for him as he couldn't be bothered to get his hands dirty. The man ran a series of slave fight rings in the underworld, forcing slaves to fight one another, often to the death in roman style gladiator duels. Sometimes these were one on one fights, but often it would consist of a single combatant up against several foes to entice the frenzied crowd. Unknown to them, certain slaves were often given advantages or disadvantages, scripting the fights by drugging them or hiding weapons around the arena. This in turn resulted in numerous upsets which would send the crowd into a tizzy and attract even larger crowds for the next event.
During his first event, Oswald learned just how unfair these fights could be when he was put up alone against three other slaves. Unprepared to die, Ozzy retched before entering the ring, his entire body shaking with anticipation. As the fight started, he found the movements of the other three slaves strange and slowed. It quickly dawned on him, as he beat them back, that the three had been drugged before the fight to make Ozzy the clear victor. After beating back all three opponents to the point they could no longer stand, Sinclair tossed a simple machete into the sand and called for the execution of the three losers. Ozzy seized the machete, but stared at Sinclair for a long moment before tossing the machete to the ground, burying its tip in the sand of the pit and walking towards the exit. For this action the slaves were spared and Ozzy was given thirty lashings, scars he still caries to this day.
The one silver lining of this time in Ozzy's life however, was meeting Doc. An old fishman doctor who had once been a monk among his people before being taken by slavers. Doc was too old to fight in the pits, but kept by Sinclair to heal and tend to the wounded slaves so they could fight sooner. Doc took a liking to Ozzy after he showed defiance and Ozzy found in Doc the father figure he hadn't had in well over a decade. Doc in turn taught Ozzy the basics of wound care and anatomy, how to tend to fractures, sprains and cuts, and various pressure points to target in a fight. He saw the rage in the young lion, the anger at the world he channeled into his fighting and taught Ozzy some of the foundation skills of his fishman monk philosophy. From this, Ozzy learned patience and temperance. He learned how to control his breathing and began fighting with more control, dispatching his opponents quickly, but attempting to harm them as little as possible as it was not their fault he had to fight them.
- The Rebellion:
As time passed and with Doc's support, Ozzy gained a following among the other slave fighters. They saw him as an unexpected leader and respected him for the way he fought, attempting to hurt the others as little as possible. Support for Ozzy grew to a swell when one day, Doc mentioned the idea of a coup against Aldo and his men. For years the other slaves had resented each other too much and been too fearful of Aldo and his severe punishments to ever rise up, but with a leader, a face to a rebellion, Ozzy just might be the answer they had always been looking for. With nothing left to lose and no desire to continue the rest of his days living this way, Ozzy agreed and plans were made.
Unfortunately, the slaves could have never anticipated the strength and firepower Aldo and his men possessed. The rebellion was quickly squashed and as a result, Ozzy was crucified in front of all of the still living slaves. Aldo approached, a sword drawn and delivered two quick slashes across Ozzy's chest. They cut deep and the blood flowed as freely as the pain that shook him to his core. The world around him grew dark and hazy as the other slaves looked on in horror, some not able to watch their leader be cut down. Aldo raised the tip of the sword, ready to deliver his punishment and end Ozzy when Doc spoke up. He claimed the rebellion was entirely his idea and that Ozzy had merely been his puppet. As Oswald was taken down from the cross, Doc was put in his place. Ozzy lost consciousness as his friend was given final judgement.
- The New Revolutionary Army:
The next few months passed in a haze while Ozzy recovered. In truth he had no real desire to do so, it would have been easier to die, but Aldo brought in his personal team of doctors to make sure Ozzy did not die a martyr and inspire the slaves for future generations. He wanted Ozzy alive to remember Doc, to remember what happens to those who defy their owners, and it worked. Ozzy was a shell of his former self. He often relegated himself to the corner of the room, away from the others. Angry and disappointed in himself, he imploded. When he fought he refused to stand against the others, wishing they'd kill him, but none would. This drove the sales of his fights down and Ozzy was quickly retired. Knowing that Doc had taught him at least some of what he knew, Aldo made Ozzy the new doctor for the wounded fighters. He carried out his duties only to help end the pain of his comrades.
One day, something extraordinary happened. During the middle of one of the fights, a headliner that Aldo expected to draw in a massive crowd (which it did), the slave pits were attacked by the New Revolutionary Army. A planned and coordinated assault took place as the stands were bombed from within. People were in a panic, confusion and fear sewn throughout the arena as New Revolutionary Army agents began attacking Aldo's henchmen. Being inspired for the first time in nearly a year, Ozzy rose and through the confusion, lead the slaves to overthrow their abusers in the holding pens. When they made it out into the pits, Ozzy caught a fleeting glimpse of the horror on Aldo Sinclair's face from his viewing box as he watched his world literally go up in flames. Before Ozzy could reach him however, the coward turn and ran, escaping into the panicked frenzy.
After the assault, all slaves were freed and offered a place among the ranks of the New Revolutionary Army. Few refused, including Ozzy himself. With no other place to go and no sense of home in the last two decades, Ozzy threw his lot in with his saviors. He dedicated himself to finding Aldo Sinclair again and knew he'd have a better chance with the resources of the NRA than he did on his own. They would become the family he was searching for all this time and in turn, he would dedicate his life to their cause of overthrowing a corrupt world.
