[Episode] A New Shipment

The children frolicked through the streets, singing a happy tune as they paraded to the their favorite place in the whole wide world! What might that be? Why, the candy store of course!"Who can take a sunrise and sprinkle it with dew, cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two, the candy man! Oh the candy man can! The candy man can cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good!" They laughed and giggled as they went, continuing to chant their favorite lyrics before finally arriving. Now, the candy store was a magical place full of color and life, unlike the rest of Munchen which was dull and bland. Well, all except for the factory, but that would come later. Either way, the store was the highlight of their day and it always brought a smile to their face.

They waited outside the door anxiously and once the clerk noticed he hurried from behind his desk and welcomed them in with open arms. "Come in children! I have candy for you all!" He announced and instantly they screamed with excitement and joy! Running to the shelves they filled their pockets with gum drops, candy bars, lollipops, all of it was complimentary of course, a thank you for their families loyal servitude at the factory, in which almost everyone worked. As the children hastily unwrapped the candies and shoved them in their drooling mouths, something changed. Their eyes widened and all that energy they had before was duplicated, they ran out the door at nearly inhuman speeds, singing that same song ten times faster as they all shuffled into their homes.

Meanwhile, standing on the balcony of the giant chocolate factory, was Candy Cane. Her arms rested on the edge as she gazed into the distance, seeing the figures of the happy children, it brought movement to her otherwise lifeless face. "Oompa oompa oompa!" The laugh was quiet and almost unnoticeable, befitting of a usually silent woman like Candy. It wasn't the fact that people were enjoying her sweet creations, no, maybe years ago she would have settled for that, but what was happening before her was so much more. These treats were laced with drugs, and once their tongue got the first lick, they would continue to crave candy for the rest of their lives. The benevolent denizens of Munchen, they were all hooked! Desperately wanting more and more, their gluttony had no limits. It was really the perfect situation, soon everyone in all the blues would be under the same effect, if the Underworld so desired. However, there was a slight hiccup in the plan. They had ran out of the special ingredient. Luckily, a new shipment was scheduled to arrive today.

Candy wanted to be prepared when the Underworld came to deliver the cargo, which would require her waiting at the docks. Leaving the factory was something she dreaded, even though she lived on the island her entire life it just always felt like she was out of place. None the less, she had no choice but to collect herself. She wouldn't allow her workers to see any signs of weakness. That could undermine all of the respect she worked so hard to earn. So, with a straight face and her parasol held high above her head she made her way through the factory, starting in her room she walked through the twisty turny hall-way, traveled down the spiral stair case, past the taffy room, past the chocolate room, past the peanut room, before eventually ending up at the lobby. Really it would have taken much longer for someone who didn't know the factories layout, but she had lived here her entire life. The maze-like architecture was basically engraved in her brain.

Opening the doors that led outside, a rush of cold air hit her, though she hardly noticed. Her outfit was made to withstand this type of weather. Candy figured the shipment would arrive any minute now. Their ship always traveled the same course and was delivered at the same time. The Underworld was quite organized when it came to their business affairs, after all, you don't run the seas without a tight schedule. Making her way down the stone stairs slowly, her heels clacked on every step, echoing for a short wile after until she finally reached the snow, and even then it took a few seconds for those echoes to catch up. Now, the hard part was treading through the winter wonderland all the way to the docks.

For someone of Candy's stature, getting through proved to be a difficult task but she made it work. Powering through like a snow-plow she groaned as she grew tired and the workload seemed to double and triple but right when she was ready to give up she was there at last! In the distance, the ship was arriving, but something about it seemed different than usual and as it sailed closer and closer Candy could see clearly what she couldn't before. Hanging on the post was a jolly roger she didn't recognize, but due to the eye patch and tricorne hat she knew that it meant trouble.
