Aria Senna
Basic Character Information
First Name: Aria
Middle Name/Initial: Dawn
Last Name: Senna
Epithet: Chem Shot Senna
Birthdate: November 13, 1805
Gender: Female
Species/Race/Tribe: Human
Faction: Marine
Profession:
Gunslinger/Sniper: Aria practiced with her gun religiously growing up, practicing how to get a clear shot in close range, to landing solid shots from extreme distances. Everything involving her shooting was down to practice and wanting it enough.
Chemist: In an effort to take her gunman-ship to the next level, Aria began to practice with different chemical compounds. It took time and practice, some of it causing her body to be permanently altered and scarred. However, due to the time and sacrifice, she can do incredible things with her bullets.
Gunsmith: Due to the nature of her Chemical bullets, she started to tinker with some of her fire arms. Because of this, she not only learned how to assemble and dis-assemble most firearms, she hand crafted her own, so that her fancy-pants bullets will work better(or sometimes at all).
Physical Appearance
Height: 5 foot 7
Weight: 146lbs
Hair Style: Her hair drapes down unevenly, her left side's being longer than the right, the longest point reaching just past her shoulder. In the back, there is an even curve upwards connecting the two. This is usually accompanied by her hat, but if she doesn't have it on, her hair tends to be a jumbled mess.
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Red
Scars: Not depicted in art of her, she has massive chemical burns on her hands and up her arms, caused by mishaps involving experimental chemicals that she works with. While those are the largest, the rest of her body is riddled with other small chemical burns.
Clothing and Accessories: From head to toe, Aria sports a cowboy hat, perfect for keeping the sun out of her eyes so it doesn't screw up a shot. The hat is a simple black mat, with a golden set of wings on the forefront. The innermost layer of her top is a simple long-sleeved, white dress shirt; generally loose in most circumstances; she'll tell you it's for a range of motion but in reality, it's just significantly more comfortable to wear that way. To add to appearances, she has a red tie that looks like it's made of Velvet, but when one touches it, one learns it's just an imitation that does feel slightly more durable.
Her outer layer is composed of a dark brown, leather vest. It holds several pockets, though most of what she holds there isn't of much importance; she learned not to keep her munitions there VERY quickly. Her hands are covered with brown leather gloves, reaching just shy of her elbows, though are a nice tight fit; enough so she won't have to worry about her grip on her gun.
Covering her legs, flexible jeans are her choice of wear. While it's not the best choice for running, she likes the durability they provide over normal slacks. Around her waist, resting just above her bum is a satchel, filled with cartridges. Each cartridge has a slightly different texture as so Aria can quickly grab and load, as within each is one of her specialty Trick Bullets. Draped across her back is her hand-made rifle, specially designed for these cartridges.
Slightly lower, her cowboy boots are made for walking. Flat-healed, light brown leather boots cover her legs up to roughly the knee. Buckle straps for secure wearing, though no spurs as she found they got in the way more often than they looked cool. While the entire ensemble generally looks messy, due to her rather having comfort over formality, whenever she needs to talk to a higher-up (which is more often than she would like) she makes sure everything is straightened out.
Description: On the surface, Aria looks like a fairly normal girl. While her hair and eye colour are somewhat striking, it's not that it hasn't been seen in the world, right? However, if one were to make contact with her hair they would learn it isn't her natural hair colour. Deeply damaged and stained from her reckless experimentation left it damaged and bleached beyond repair. She counts her lucky stars that it didn't just fall out.
A similar story with her eye colour. A bad splash damaged her eyes, and she counts herself lucky the only thing she got was a cooler eye colour other than the green her parents had. While she tends to play it off as just luck of the draw, the rest of her body- that she never lets anyone see if she can help it, is another story. Her arms, up just past her elbow a deep red and damaged. Similar spots can be seen splashed around her torso and legs, though in much smaller doses and with a smaller circumference.
The Past
Main Traits: Cheerful, Obsessive, Impulsive, Risky, Cagey
Likes: People, drinks, explosions, her personal time to experiment and build, and Salmon
Dislikes: Pirates, the New Revolutionary Army, The Conqueror, and herself
Unique laugh: HYEH-HE-HE-HE-HE/HYEH-HEH-HEH-HEH-HEH(second is when she is being devious)
Hometown: Mariko Island- an Uncharted Island in the South Blue
Personality: Aria at first glance is a very open girl. Ever since she was a kid, she's always been pushing her chemistry further to try and find something truly incredible; like a concoction that can melt through anything, or a way to create the biggest boom. This inherent risk-taking portion of her nature tends to be the leading cause of her injuries. Nasty scars that she hides within her clothing, especially on her arms are the most obvious examples of the reckless parts of her persona. This is compounded by how impulsive she can be. The first sign of something new, shinier than something she has, or any idea for how to create an even more dangerous substance will immediately consume her, usually to the dismay of her commanding officer.
To add to the Impulsive side of her, she is also obsessive to no end. When her impulses lock her into something that ends up sticking, she makes sure that it will be completed come hell or high water. It's how her Chem-Bullets came to be, she had an idea on how to weaponize her chemicals better for a faster and all-around better delivery and stuck to it until she came up with her special Gun.
That being said, she always comes off as someone who's genuinely happy. She will crack jokes at any given chance, poke people for a reaction whether physically or verbally, and will attempt to explore enclosed spaces as much as she can. She always seems to try and put on a smile and either make herself laugh or to make others around her happy. However, the reality of the situation is that she is quite caged off from the rest of the world. She genuinely hates herself, and portraying herself as happy around others is both how she makes sure others don't have to deal with a mopey person all the time, and as a way to punish herself by acting the opposite of how she feels.
- History:
- Part One- From Birth to Passion:
- Aria was born on the small, mostly unknown, Mariko Island. She was born to Maren and Allister Senna, a pair of Marine Doctors that were stationed there. There were only a dozen Marines on the island, partially because of the sparsity of South Blues' population, but also because the population of the island isn't that big. Nonetheless, they were intent that this was a nice place to raise a family. Both with jobs and in a safe area, they hoped their daughter would grow up to maybe become a doctor like them.
Over her formative years, she looked up to her parents. They were intelligent, happy, and strong! She wanted to be like them when she grew up. When her younger brother Silas was born, she wanted nothing more than to help him grow just like her Mom and Dad. That being said, she didn't have too much interest in the Marines. To her, they seemed a little too stuffy.
Around the age of twelve, she began to try and study some medical texts that her parents had provided for her. However, being only twelve at the time she was more concerned with running around with her friends Tara, Maybelle, and Valerie. This era of her life was simple, and the happiest she truly ever was.
At the age of 14, though, is when she began to study in earnest and quickly learned the art of medicine was not for her. However, she absolutely did NOT tell her parents right away. She didn't want to break their hearts! So, instead, she simply messed around with some of the materials that were meant to help her learn medicine. After a few days of experimenting, one of the vials rapidly expanded, creating a sticky substance that solidified to nearly as hard as a stone. Her eyes lit up at the prospect that she made something like this. And if she could make something like this, what else could she make...?
- Part Two- The Accident:
- Over the course of a year or so, Aria continued to mess with her little chemistry kit by herself. She would occasionally look at her medical books, but mostly so that when she was quizzed she had actual answers. It also helped her learn about other compounds that she wanted to experiment with. It was an amazing point in her life, where her ingenuity was being shown in full force.
That being said, she had let some of her friendships slip. While they wanted her to come and hang out, she was simply too absorbed in her studies. She couldn't help it if the more she looked the cooler the reactions she found! She offered for them to hang out while she "studied" but they didn't get the hint that it wasn't just her pouring over medical texts.
So, she persevered. Many more days locked in her room she continued to find some neat reactions. One of which almost exploded on her, which she made sure to note and put away into completely different areas of her little workroom. However, all good things must come to an end. At some point, when mixing two substances, she noticed no reaction. She frowned, before adding a third item. What she didn't account for was 2 of the substances reacting negatively, with the third exasperating it.
The resulting detonation destroyed the workspace and blew a massive hole in the wall. A series of good fortune is the only reason she is alive today. The first part of good luck was that she was on the first floor, as she was blasted out of the building. The second is that her parents were nearby with some other marines, to help administer some first aid, washing out the gunk in her eyes. The third is that none of it landed in her mouth at all, as she had been at least smart enough to wear a face mask.
However, that's where her good luck ended. Her arms were burned to no end, her hair white and chalky and her iris blood red, with some other chemical burns splattered across her body. While her parents worked rigorously to help make sure she remained alive, she prayed to any god that would listen that they would let her keep experimenting with her infusions.
By the end of it, her parents had figured out how to make sure her arms weren't destroyed, and that she could see as well as she could before. However, touching the sunlight burned her arms and eyes, so her parents got her a wide-brim Cowboy hat and some leather gloves so she didn't hurt herself just standing out in the sun.
Whatever entity she prayed to respond to her prayers, as her parents didn't completely dissuade her from experimenting. However, there were conditions. Primarily, it was that she would study ACTUAL chemistry text books, and work with an adult in the room at all times- usually either her Mom or Dad, but occasionally a different marine with some basic knowledge of Chemistry. So, with a huge joy, she would continue with what she assumed was a blessing but later learned to be a curse
- Part 3- All My Fault:
- Aria continued to learn and experiment more and more as time went on. That being said, however, she wasn't entirely ignorant of the goings on in the outside world. She had heard of the New Revolutionary Army from her parents, and how they would revolt against the Marines and World Government. She thought this to be crazy, though; what was there to Revolt against? The world was perfectly fine as it was, she thought. She had heard terrifying stories of them, causing death and destruction to the Marines, and while young she knew that she didn't like these guys.
That was a footnote in her life, though. While unaware of it, she is not immune to propaganda, which doubled as the thought of joining the Marines. Her parents were able to convince her that, if she joined the Marines, she might be able to get funding for materials that they couldn't afford or get their hands on legally. While hesitant, she did concede and agreed to join them at some point, though not right now. For now, she enjoyed her freedom.
Over the next few years, Aria continued to practice with her chemicals and concluded that if she were to join the Marines, she would need some way to defend herself. So, she began practicing some gunmanship. It was difficult, especially since she had no physical training in her life up until that point, but she persevered and eventually started to get pretty decent at it!
However, the world as she knew it would get flipped on its head on January 26th, 1825.
A few days before, her parents were called to Marineford. None were sure why, but they had gone before so it wasn't going to be anything out of the ordinary. That was until a few days after when Tara scrambled into her shop with the paper. She scoured through and read in horror as the events of The Conquerors War unfurled on the paper before her. She had no idea if her parents were hurt, or even alive.
However, as if a gift from some higher power, her parents came home. Her father had a broken arm and her mother, while nothing broken, looked more like a mummy than a human. Still, she was just happy they weren't killed. As it turns out, they were called mostly for medical support but couldn't stay completely out of the fray.
Regardless, her family came home. However, the waves caused by that day didn't stop there. Not even a week later, pirates landed on the island. The Crack-Jaw pirates looked to make Mariko Island their base, gaining food and funds before attempting the Grand Line. The sparsely defended town cracked under the pressure, half going down within the initial raid, while the other six attempted to evacuate the town. Aria was with the evacuation crowd, though her parents had attempted to, and successfully, got the attention of the pirates.
Aria didn't want to lose her parents; she remembered how she felt almost leaving dying and didn't want to feel the full force of their deaths, so she grabbed a rifle from a downed Marine and pursued. Following the trail, she would find her way to her home, though before entering, all the windows were blown out. A familiar green smoke plumed out, and in a panic, she ran inside to find her parents laying dead, surrounded by seven pirates, one of which was the captain.
Aria stood at the doorway, the visage of her parents dying due to her hobby in such a terrifying and painful way, way burned into her psyche.
While the town hailed them as heroes, praising their noble sacrifice, Aria felt nothing but shame. Not from her parents, but from her being a key factor in their deaths, even if it was their choice. It was her equipment. Maybe if she just studied medicine, this wouldn't have happened? Maybe if she was stronger, she could have stopped them? Maybe if she had been the strongest, she could have stopped The Conqueror, none of this would have happened?
The guilt of being a slacker wracked her brain, and an all-consuming dread of something like this happening again continued to eat away at her. But from the ashes, a new ember burned. She would create another lab, and begin to create a weapon. She would begin to create more dangerous concoctions, in an attempt to create something to destroy all Pirates.
- Part 4- Death March:
- Over the next several years, Aria came to a simple conclusion: Throwing vials like grenades was simply not as very effective, and throwing a vial to shoot wasn't even close to being good. So, she took up engineering. She had learned that she could not simply make vials the size of normal bullets, as the payload wasn't enough. But in order to make a good shot, the bullet would be too big. So, she took up engineering.
Over the next several years, she would craft the beginnings of a new gun; a specialty weapon to hold larger bullets and still be able to shoot them. It was beautiful, though she derived no joy. Well, maybe a little. Regardless, when she learned it would work, she set off immediately to enroll in the Marines; hoping that no one else would have to lose their parents in a similar way as her; and to exterminate as many pirates before she herself fell.
